Definitions
- the present invention relates to a dispensing means for containers, and in particular to a dispenser having a plurality of spatially separated dispensing orifices
- dispensing means that generally include a single dispensing orifice in a cap or other closure that also includes a cap or lid so as to close and/or seal the orifice
- the dispensing means or closures are quasi-permanently attached to the container and the liquid contents from the container can only be dispensed through this single orifice.
- the size of the o ⁇ fice will determine how fast the liquid will flow out.
- a dispenser for use with a container including. a body having a first end and a second end, said first end adapted to engage an outlet of said container; a bore extending from said first end to a plurality of orifices disposed on said second end, said orifices disposed spatially apart whereby in use fluid from said container flows through said plurality of orifices to thereby dispense fluid across a surface.
- said first end sealingly engages said container. This protects the o ⁇ fices as well as the contents of the bottle that may be adversely affected by air.
- first end includes means of attachment to a container.
- the first end includes internal threads adapted to engage external threads on the bottle.
- said orifices are disposed in a recess located at said second end
- the dispenser includes a lid adapted to seal said o ⁇ fices when not in use.
- the lid is hingedly attached to said dispenser and rotatable from a first position whereby it seals the orifices and to a second position whereby exposing said orifices.
- the dispenser is adapted to engage the external bore of a bottleneck.
- At least one fluid passageway is interposed between said orifices and said bottle. This provides for a smoother flow of fluid from the bottle by providing air to replace the poured fluid.
- the plurality or orifices are separate by a distance greater than the width of the container.
- the orifices are configured in a liner arrangement.
- the orifices are configured in a circular arrangement.
- said orifices are configured in a parabolic arrangement.
- said dispenser further includes an air passageway connecting the inside of the container with the external surface.
- said air passageway includes an aperture located at the side of the dispensing means.
- said air passageway includes an aperture located in-between said orifices.
- said air passageway includes a tube extending substantially into said container.
- the dispenser includes a cap, said cap including a cavity whose shape is substantially the same as the outer shape of the second end of a dispenser whereby the cap can be placed onto the dispenser to effect a sealing.

- the present invention has particular application m the food industry where it may be used, for example, to assist m the spreading of edible oils over breads and the like However, it may also be used to spread other fluids, and it is not intended to limit the invention to use in relation to food only It may very well be used to spread other types of fluids or even particulates, such as seasonings, garden fertilisers or even glue
- the following discussion is, for the purposes of illustration only, concerned with the use of the invention to dispense edible oil or margarine from a bottle
- a dispensing means 10 having a first end 12 and a seconds end 14,
- the first end 12 is of a shape and size to engage a bottle 16
- the first end 12 has the configuration of a cyhnd ⁇ cal neck that engages the outside of the bottle 16 as shown in Figure 1
- Most bottles have an external thread type arrangement (not shown), and the neck accordingly has internal threads 18 correspondingly shaped so as to engage the bottle's external threads This ensures that the dispenser sealingly engages the bottle
- a bore 20 that enables the contents 22 of the bottle 16 to pass through bore 20 and into passages 24 that fluidly connect the bore to orifices 26 located at the second end
- the o ⁇ fices are spatially separated, and are geometrically aligned within the recess 28 located within second end 14
- a tube 32 extends from an aperture 34 located on the external side of the dispensing means rearwardly towards said first end
- oil is poured out from the orifices it is replaced by air fed into the bottle through tube 32 Otherwise air would be forced by virtue of air pressure into the bottle through the o ⁇ fices as the oil is dispensed causing a disturbance m the oil flow
- the length of the tube is not c ⁇ tical, it is generally preferable for the tube to be generally the same length as the bottle, so as to ensure that air entering the bottle does not aerate the oil in the bottle
- the dispensing means may have a lid
- a lid 36 pivotably attached to the second end of the dispensing means and pivotable from a first position 38 in which the lid seals the o ⁇ fice (as shown in Figure 6), to an open position 40 where the orifices are exposed (as shown in Figure 7)
- a handle 42 is provided by which the lid may be opened
- a projection 44 snap-fittmgly engages groove 46 in the dispensing means
- the dispensing means may include a groove 48 to keep the lid in the closed position
- a second embodiment of a lid, shown in Figure 8, is where the lid is hinged to the dispensing means.
- the lid includes a handle 38 as well as projection 44 with an enlarged head that engages or snap-fits to a groove 50.
- a second projection 52 on the lid may engage groove 54 on an inside face of the recess when the lid has been hinged into the open position.
- FIG. 9 Shown in Figure 9 is an embodiment where the lid includes a flange 56 engaging surface 58 of the dispensing means so that in the closed position the outer bottom surface of the dispensing means is generally flush.
- the orifices Whilst the above examples have shown the orifices to be co-linear, other configuration may equally well be useful for other uses. For example, as illustrated in Figure 10, several orifices 60 may be circumferentially disposed around a central orifice 62. In an alternate configuration, the dispensing means may have a parabolic shape as shown in Figure 11, with the orifices 64 appropriately in a parabolic configuration as well.
- the dispensing means may include a cap 66 detachable from the dispenser 10 (shown in Figure 12). Having a cavity 68 shaped to the outer shape of the dispensing means allows the cap to be fitted onto the dispenser so as to seal it. Obviously, the tolerance would have to be fairly fine or the cavity slightly smaller so that it frictionally engages the dispensing means.
- the outer shape of the dispensing means may also vary and may be so chosen to minimise and drips of oil.
- a dispensing means of a shape where the orifices are indented into the dispenser is shown in Figures 13 and 14.
- the aperture 34 for the airflow may be located on the side of the dispenser as shown in Figure 13 or in-between the orifices as shown in Figure 14.
- the dispensing means may include a membrane of filter means (not shown) to ensure that no unwanted particulate matter in the oil is dispensed
- Other improvements may include a heater means to assist in heating the oil before it is being spread, as well as the addition of ingredients into the oil prior to dispensing
- the invention is for a dispensing means that assists in dispensing oil over a grater surface by providing for a plurality of o ⁇ fices, which are simultaneously fed oil or fluid from a container
