Abstract
This invention is about a small vehicle designed to support golf players and professionals and allowing computer assisted teaching and training either in indoor or outdoor driving ranges. It uses a multimedia system that includes a computer, digital video camera (8) and speed radar (9) all in association with some peripherals for interface communication, namely, two video screens (5 and 7), a printer, a biometrics identification system (2), a touch pad (3) and the vehicle (11) that carries all the system. Operation starts positioning the vehicle in front of the player and recording the images of the swing. It is possible to observe in both screens live images or to repeat all at normal speed, slow motion or frame by frame, forward or backward. Video images are digitalized and saved in the hard disk of the computer as computer files. An estimate of the distance reached by the golf ball is displayed.

DESCRIPTION
SMALL VEHICLE DESIGNED TO CARRY THE COMPONENTS OF A MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM AIMED TO ASSIST IN GOLF TEACHING AND
TRAINING
This invention is about a small vehicle named GOLFIXER, having 4 wheels and, inside, a computer and other electronic equipments assembled in order to form a multimedia system designed to support golf players and professionals and allowing computer assisted teaching and training.
Created to work either in indoor and outdoor driving ranges it combines some of the most advanced techonologies available making it an innovative tool but also one easy to use.
This system perfoms several operations but the main features are the ability to record the movements of a golf player (client) permiting it's study by the client and the professional later and also the visualization of the client's swing in real time. Right after the shot, an estimate of the distance reached by the golf ball, either outdoors or in an indoor space limited driving range, is displayed.
STATE OF THE ART
There are available in the market some equipments to assist in golf teaching and training. One is a speed radar that estimates the carry distances of a golf ball after a shot. Others are some equipments that use camcorders to allow the study of the player's swing using the images previously recorded and not digitalized. Both equipments operate separately.
GOLFIXER uses a new approach based on digitalized video, multimedia solutions and several different technologies that dialog using software developed for that purpose allowing the golf professional and his client to use, just when it is needed, a lot of information never before displayed all together and giving the possibility to get an accurate perception for all the details of the swing that has just been made.
Unlike video images captured by classic camcorders GOLFIXER's video images are digitalized and saved in the hard disk of the computer as
computer files making it very easy to play them at normal speed, slow motion, frame by frame, forward or backwards.
EMBODIMENTS
The invention is a vehicle (11) with four wheels (10) and a control panel including also multimedia equipment based on a computer, digital video camera (8) and speed radar (9) all in association with some peripherals for interface communication, namely, two video screens (5 and 7), a printer, a biometrics identification systems (2) and a touch pad (3).
The vehicle design was determined by ergonomic reasons and convenience of use of the several components.
This means, for instance, that the vehicle has a recess in the front side that can be open and that contains inside the front video screen (7) positioned a few centimeters above the ground allowing the player to observe, without changing his posture, his own image as if it was displayed by a mirror. The recess and its cover protect from direct sunlight and form a kind of "dark room" assuring good visibility even outdoors on a bright sunny day. To improve that effect the recess is black painted with a special blind paint.
The front video screen is LCD type to allow better image and use less space and is protected against impact by an anti-glare polycarbonate panel.
The upper right side of the vehicle is a container for the digital video camera (8), which can be adjusted verticaly and can rotate to allow to capture images from different angles. Also in the right side, but in a lower position, is the speed radar (9) that operates through a window open in the right side of the vehicle as shown in fig. 3 and 4.
Control panel is on the upper face of the vehicle and is to be operated from the left side. It includes the upper video screen (5), to be used by the professional , the touch pad (3), the sensor of the biometrics identification system (2). A set of flags give the possibility to choose the language used by the system. There is a top cover that can be closed in order to protect the control panel when golf sessions ends.
Inside the vehicle there is the computer, the printer to put in paper the results supplied by the multimedia system, the cables that interconnect the components and provide electric energy supply, as well as a UPS to protect the equipment in case of energy shut down or overload.
In the back side of GOLFIXER there is a handle bar (1) connected to the two rear wheels and suited to drive the vehicle.
Another important point is the fact that the video screens (5 and 7) are assembled in "portrait position" allowing images of the player roughly 40% bigger than those obtained in the usual "landscape position".

OPERATION
The system is very easy to operate.
The vehicle with four wheels (10) and two of them adjusted to a mobile axle, can be easily moved and pleaced in a position allowing the player to observe himself in the front video screen (7)
To start a work session the user must touch the sensor of the biometrics identification system to login and start operations. Images captured by the
digital video camera can then be observed in the two video screens, one for the user and the other for the client.
Because the front video screen (7) is positioned a few centimeters above the ground in portrait position it allows the player to observe his entire image without changing his posture and hardly moving the eyes from the ball.
Just after the shot the radar sends to both screens the estimate of the carry distance of the golf ball. This is possible in outdoor and indoor driving ranges, even small ones, because the calculations are based on the speed of the ball at club impact and ball take off angle. The system measures also club head speed at impact and impact efficiency.
That information is saved in connection with respective swing images recorded.
It is possible to play the last five recorded movements at normal speed, slow motion or frame by frame, forward or backwards. Drawing over the images is also possible making it easier to understand the professional's comments.
Another point is the possibility of overlaying a grid to allow a better study of posture and body angles. The grid can be removed with just a click.
At the end a small printer can deliver a note with an overview of the results of the golf session just finished. These results are grouped by each of the clubs used and show, for each one, the longest, the shortest and the average shot distances as well as standard deviation and percentage of missed shots.
Session length of time can be set up and changed at will. A digital watch is displayed in both video screens and counts down remaining time for ending golf session.
At the end of the day the system can be shut down and the car closed.

Claims
1. Small vehicle earring a set of electronic devices assembled in order to assist in golf teaching and training, characterized by all the components being held in the right position inside the car that operates as a platform containing a multimedia system that includes a computer, a digital video camera to record the player, a speed radar to measure shot distances, two video screens to visualize the golf player images and a printer to print the results, all the hardware being controled by the software developed for that purpose.
2. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1., characterized for having a small recess in the front side aimed to confine the front video screen, placed a few centimeters above the ground and that is not fixed in the usual position (landscape) but turned 90° (portrait) and will show images of the player identical to those displayed by a mirror.
3. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1. and 2. characterized for positioning over the front video screen a device designed to turn and then close the front recess when the system is not being used. That device combined with the design of the recess assures a somewhat obscure environment around the front video screen.
4. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1. to 3., characterized for having in the front right side a digital video camera that can be adjusted vertically and also a speed radar operating through a side window.
5. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1. to 4., characterized for having on the upper face a control panel to be operated by the user from the left side of the vehicle, that includes the upper video screen (portrait also), a touch pad, the sensor of the biometrics identification system and a disket drive.
6. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1. to 5., characterized for having inside and under the control panel a computer, a printer, and all the cables that interconnect the components and provide electric energy supply.
7. Small vehicle as mentioned in 1. to 6., characterized for capturing video images that are digitalized and stored in the hard disk as computer files.
