Definitions
- the present invention relates to a distribution package for foodstuff or the like product, where a pre-packed product is enclosed into an at least partially essentially transparent vacuum package.
- the present invention also relates to a method for exhibiting a foodstuff or the like product for distribution, which product is enclosed into a vacuum package, as well as to the use of such a package arrangement .
- packages comprise sheets which are made of plastics or a corresponding material and attached to each other in a leak-proof manner, between which sheets the actual product is arranged.
- the shape of said sheets or parts thereof are adapted to the shapes of the product, usually in connection with a production including some kind of heat treatment and due to a low pressure or vacuum achieved in a manner known per se , and the sheets are brought to stick together so that the product will be located between sheet portions which are closed in an airtight and in most cases also bacteria-tight manner.
- said sheets may comprise separate sheets or, e.g., portions of one single sheet which has been folded together.
- Finnish patent application No. 19991862 discloses a distribution arrangement for foodstuff, wherein separate products are held within the reach of the consumer and easy for her/him to pick. It is appropriate especially for such an arrangement that the products as such are arranged to be both easy to identify and practical to suspend.
- foodstuff packages available today do not in all respects fulfill the demands set by said arrangement so that the maximal advantage of the arrangement could be reached.
- the distribution package according to the present invention has been developed, the characteristics of which being evident form the appended claims.
- the package according to the present invention is characterized in that a displaying or suspending casing made of cardboard or the like material is arranged around the actual vacuum package, said casing comprising a presentation window for displaying the product.
- the method according to the present invention is characterized in that a suspending casing is arranged to remain separate from said vacuum package, a presentation window is arranged at at least one outside surface of said casing, and that said vacuum package is arranged into said casing in such a manner that the product in the vacuum package will be visible in said displaying window.
- the present invention further includes the use of a package arrangement as discussed above for keeping foodstuff or the like exhibited for selling or other distribution purposes .
- Figure 1 schematically discloses a product which is enclosed in a vacuum package
- Figures 2a and 2b disclose a suspending package in accordance with the present invention, seen from different directions,
- Figures 3a to 3c in a corresponding manner disclose a vacuum package arranged into a suspending casing, where Figures 3b and 3c disclose sections at A-A and B-B, correspondingly, and
- Figure 4 discloses a blank for a suspending casing according to one embodiment .
- a product 1 comprising foodstuff or the like is arranged, as known per se , in a vacuum package 2, said product having an original shape which often may be rather nondescript.
- said package 2 comprises, at least at one side thereof, an essentially transparent portion 3 through which the actual product 1 is visible.
- This package 2 does not necessarily comprise any separate information, but according to one favorable embodiment, however, an identification code 4a or other information necessary at the packing procedure is marked on the package.
- the last day 4b for using the product is favorably marked on the actual vacuum package in case the end user at an earlier stage removes the vacuum package 2 from the suspending package 5 which is disclosed more exactly in Figures 2a and 2b.
- a separate suspending package is made for the vacuum package 2 described above, into which suspending package the product 1 and its vacuum package 2 can later on easily be placed so that the vacuum package favorably remains unfastened to the suspending package, i.e. in practice stays loosely therein.
- Said suspending package is favorably constituted as a bag-like suspending casing 5, which suitably comprises a suspending arrangement like a suspending opening 7 or the like arranged in an extension of the upper part of said casing.
- Said suspending casing 5 is suitably intended to remain as a loose means which surrounds said vacuum package 2, in which case said casing 5 will not in any way constitute any disadvantage to the consumer.
- suspending casing itself is suitably made of cardboard or the like somewhat firm material which favorably can be destroyed or recirculated in a non-polluting manner. While the foodstuff product itself is enclosed in a a vacuum package which in most cases is non-returnable said suspending casing 5 in accordance with one embodiment can be implemented for recycling as such.
- the suspending casing 5 mainly considering the suspension thereof, being a part of the distribution arrangement for the product 1 it "suitably also constitutes a part of the product information system.
- the suspending casing 5 as such favorably constitutes a foundation for information related to the product or to some other feature, for which information one or several separate fields 8 may be reserved.
- the suspending casing 5 as such may also, e.g., by means of a certain color or figuration constitute a part of a coding for groups as disclosed in said patent application No. 19991862.
- Figure 2a discloses that the suspending casing 5 according to the invention on at least on side thereof comprises a product presentation window 9 through which the product 1 in its vacuum package 2 can be viewed, and thus one of the essential advantages of the vacuum packaging system is accomplished, i.e. the possibility to be able to inspect the product directly.
- said presentation window 9 is constituted by a portion 9a cut out from the front surface of the suspending casing, which can best be seen in Figure 2b.
- said portion is arranged with a transparent window material such as a transparent plastics or the like (not shown) , but according to a favorable embodiment of the present invention said presentation window 9 is simply formed by a free opening 9a in said surface.
- the product 1 in its vacuum package 2 can partially push through said opening 9a as indicated in Figures 3b and 3c, which in this case contributes to keeping said vacuum package 2 in said casing 5.
- said suspending casing 5 favorably comprises a tube like body 10 which separately can be folded flat, which body connects to a likewise collapsible bottom portion 11, suitably so that at least said bottom portion 11 constitutes the surface of a cylinder segment when said package 5 is in the mode for reception of a product 1.
- Figure 4 discloses a blank 12 for a suspending casing 5 disclosed in Figures 2a to 3c.
- said blank 12 is made of cardboard or the like.
- At folding edges which suitably are made to constitute creasings 14 opposite flange portions 13 of said blank are folded towards each other and attached together, e.g., by gluing at glue-areas 15.
- a flange 16 which constitutes said bottom portion 11 is turned inwards over a folding 17 so that the lower edges of said flanges 15 will keep said flange 16 within the tube-like portion even without any fastening.
- the bottom 11 of said casing is then constituted by said flange 16, in connection to which suitably are formed creasings or grooves 18, 18a cut to half the cupboard material which together define the extent of said bottom portion 11 when said casing 5 is in the mode for receiving said product 1.
- Said grooves 18, 18a will then form a suitably arched folding 21 between front and back surfaces 19, 20, respectively, which folding defines another general shape of the package casing 5.
- the actual vacuum package 2 is favorably made as an essentially flat piece as is best disclosed in Figures 3b and 3c.
- said piece favorably comprises a front portion 22 as well as a flange-like portion 23 which projects from said front portion and suitably extends around the actual product in a flangelike manner.
- said flange 23 functions, in a manner known per se , as a closing member for said vacuum package 2, where opposite sheets of said vacuum package 2 are attached to each other air-tight in a manner known per se .
- Said vacuum package 2 can favorably further comprise a back portion 24 which extends from said flange 23 in an opposite direction and which in the shown embodiment will be completely invisible within said suspending casing 5.
- said suspending casing 5 in accordance with one embodiment (not shown) comprises a presentation window also at its back surface 20 said product 1 can be seen also from the opposite direction.
- the vacuum package is favorably placed loose within the suspending casing 5 so that it will not be fastened tcr it at any point, which renders the product 1 and its package 2 easy to remove from said casing 5.
- the casing 5 which suitably has been flattened for storage is brought into a slightly tube-like shape e.g., by pressing the edges. Said slightly tube- like shape is generally determined by said arched folding 21 which is constituted by said grooves 18, 18a or the like.
- said front and back surfaces 19, 20 of said casing 5 will each separately constitute a portion of a cylindrical surface which best can be seen in sectional Figure 3c.
- the surfaces interconnect at said edge foldings 14 and inside said casing 5 will then be formed a space which receives the product 1 and into which said product 1 and its package 2 is placed.
- Said flange portion 23 of the vacuum package 2 is then favorably shaped in such a manner that it functions as a guide when inserting the product .
- said flange prevents the vacuum package from totally pressing out through said presentation window 9 in the suspending casing.
- said flange 23 of said vacuum package 5 is utilized as such for extending and/or closing the suspending package around said vacuum package. Then an undermost edge 23a of said flange is favorably made slightly longer than the edge portions of said flange, in which case as the last measure of the packing it is brought to press at the collapsible bottom 11 of the suspending package 2 so that said bottom 11 will bend outwards to some extent, i.e. downwards in the presentation according to Figure 3a. Then said bottom 11 will at least partially draw the front and/or back side 19, 20 of said suspending casing 5 with it so that said suspending casing 5 can be said to close around the product 1 as schematically disclosed in Figure 3a.
- the package arrangement disclosed above provides a clearly defined appearance to the product located therein.
- the concise suspending arrangement 7 is located at an exactly pre- definable spot. Since the actual outer package, i.e. said suspending casing 5 can be flattened and due to its character as an item separate from the product said package can be at the same time easily and in separate operations provided with any markings and information which are considered appropriate with respect to the marketing and/or use of the product.
- the package is concise and at the same time simple, since the product 1 itself with its vacuum package 2 can be easily detached from its package 5, in most cases merely by bringing the package upside-down, instead of having to tear apart pieces which are glued or attached in some other manner. This feature will be especially remarkable as sorting of waste is developed.
- the inventive arrangement means a clear distinction between these operations so that they easily can be performed at different steps of the distribution system.
