Abstract

A machine which is able to strip bearing line and weight line from a fishing net. The machine is designated with two steering rolls in the front (1) where the net is led through. Via a lower guide rail (2) supported by an upper guide rail (2) the net will be led to a rotating knife (3) which will separate the nets from the lines. On the back of the machine there are 4 rubber rolls (4) which - by engine power - draw both net and lines free off the machine and it is now easy to pick up. The advantages of the machine are that it is able to increase the speed of which the net is stripped. Until now this job has been carried out manually with a knife but the separation can now be done by machine. Using the machine stripping net you can now obtain a capacity of 10-15 net per hour.

Description

Net stripper
The existing invention concerns a machine that can separate bearing lines and weight lines from a fishing net, mechanically. The machine is designed with two steering rolls in the front where the net is led through. Via a lower and an upper guide rail the net will be led to a rotating knife that will separate the net from the lines. On the back of the machine there are 4 rubber rolls which - by engine power - draw both net and lines free of the machine. The motor, that draws it all, Is driven by electricity and the speed is adjustable. In the fishing industry many different types of net are used. What is identical for them all is that they have a line both at the top and one in the bottom. The bottom line is the one that keeps the net in the water why it is made of lead with a string of nylon wrapped around. This line is called the weight line. Floats are in some cases sown on the upper line. The purpose of this line is to keep the net up and make sure that it is vertical in the water. This line is therefore called the bearing line. Though the net might get thrown away the lines can be used many time so they are very valuable to the fishermen, in average a (Danish) fishing boat uses about 500 nets per year and one line is used between 7-10 times before it is thrown away. At the present the only kind of tool that is capable of separating the lines from the net is a knife. Using a knife It takes about one hour to strip a net Because of the high wages in Denmark most fishermen send their nets to Poland and other of the Eastern European countries and get the Job done there. Freight costs is one of the problems by getting the job done in Poland. Another problem, probably the biggest one, is that way to many nets get damaged because the lines get stripped. When that happens the nets cannot be reused which means that the fishermen have to bye new lines. That is a reason why many piles of net where parts of the net easily could be reused, lies around in most harbours. These net can not be granulated before the weight lines have been cut off. Lead must be destroyed separately because of the environment Therefore the weight lines must be separated from the rest of the net before this can be destroyed. The advantage of the machine is that ft can strip 5-15 nets per hour. Using a knife the possibility of cutting either your self or the lines has been quite big. The machine is designed in a way that makes it impossible to cut the lines or in any way hurt your fingers on the knife, in the rubber balls or in the motor.
In the following the invention will be further explained referring to the drawings. To begin with you clear the net by running it through the machine pass the knife so it falls next to the machine. The net is placed in front of the machine with the lines free. The stripping begins by stripping the first meter of the net with a knife. Then the net is led over the steering roll (1). This steering roll, which is installed in an angle of 90°, can be turned in different angles to avoid the net tangling. Then the net and the lines are led on each side of the lower guide rail (2) and afterwards the upper guide rail (2) is adjusted according to the size of the line. Drawn by the rubber balls (4) the lines and the net will be separated by the steering arm shaped as a V. The line is centred so the knife (3) will not cut either the line or the net but only the sewing. By engine power the rubber balls draw the line in one side and the net in the other side respectively. Depending on how hard you want the machine to draw the upper rubber balls are adjustable according to how hard the pressure should be on the lower rubber balls. Now the lines can be reused and the net can be destroyed.
