Abstract

The invention relates to a gel electrophoresis system in which a number of samples are applied to a flat separating gel in straight rows and columns, in a matrix-type arrangement (131) and run through said separating gel (130) under the influence of an electrical field. At least two electrode pairs (121, 122 or 123, 124) comprising electrodes situated on opposite edges of the separating gel are used to form an electrical current with an effective current direction in such a way that the samples run through the separating gel in a direction that deviates from the directions of the rows and columns of the sample arrangement, accordingly.
