Definitions
- the object of the invention is a mechanism for setting the inclination of a chair back-rest.
- the mechanism according to the present invention may be applied in construction of chairs, especially those chairs of a special design, designated for instance, for office work, or for work at a computer, where, during long lasting, continuous activity, requiring seating position, ill fitted back-rest of the chair, which cannot be comfortably adapted to the work character and to the seating person anatomy, may lead to an excessive tiredness of the person, provoke his or hers spine pains and, in extreme cases, may be the cause of the person's backbone durable deformations.
- Polish patent No 172592 There is known a construction of a mechanism for setting the inclination of a chair back-rest, described in Polish patent No 172592, in which a knob, fixed onto a threaded bush, and equipped with a spring, is applied, which mechanism settles and fixes, the position of a chair's back-rest in relation to chair seat.
- Polish utility model No 57046 consisting of a set of fixing plates, which can be locked by means of a knob, the plates being situated in pivot connection between the chair backrest frame and its seat.
- the mechanism according to the present invention comprises a detent unit, having at least two detent plates, which unit is operatively connected, by means of a manoeuvring system, to a manoeuvring lever serving also to set the height of the chair seat, as one of the elements, connected to the manoeuvring lever, pressures the valve of a gas spring, situated in the foot column of the chair.
- the detent unit operatively engages the chair back-rest frame, which frame is equipped with a plurality of slots situated in the upper part of the back-rest frame rear plate.
- the back-rest frame consists of at least two parts, upper and lower, connected by means of an arbor, in a manner enabling swivel movement of the one part in relation to the other.
- the manoeuvring lever serving to set the height of the chair seat, is mounted in the seat carrier in a manner enabling its both, swinging about its axis and shifting along its axis.
- the shifting of the lever is transferred by means of a mechanical linkage to the detent unit.
- the mechanical linkage consists of a plate, rotationally but not shiftily mounted on the manoeuvring lever, which plate, when the manoeuvring lever is shifted, engages a cam, rotationally mounted on a roller, changing traverse movement of the plate in relation to the chair longitudinal axis into respective longitudinal movement of a linking member flexibly connected, by means of a spring, to the guiding element of the detent plates.
- Lower part of the back-rest frame is connected to the seat carrier of the chair.
- a spring On the arbor connecting the lower part to the upper part of the back-rest frame there is a spring whose deflection urges the upper part of the back-rest of the chair toward the seat of the chair.
- the lower part of the back-rest frame is connected to the chair seat carrier in a detachable manner, enabling the back-rest frame to make a longitudinal shift along the chair carrier channel.
- the mounting of the lower part of the back-rest frame in the seat carrier is realised in such a manner, that the roller, upon which the cam of the mechanical linkage is rotationally mounted, is equipped with an internal thread, into which a knob is threaded-in from the bottom of the seat carrier, passing though a longitudinal opening in the bottom part of the seat carrier.
- fig. 1 is a plan view of the seat carrier with mounted-on the lower part of the back-rest frame (the upper part of the back-rest not shown)
- fig. 2 is a more detailed plan view of the lower part of the back-rest frame with sectional view of the seat carrier
- fig 3 is a sectional view of the chair foot with the seat carrier and the lower part of the back-rest frame.
- Mechanism for setting the inclination of a chair back-rest comprises a back-rest frame upper part 1 connected by a swivel joint to back rest lower part 2 by means of an arbor 3.
- Said lower part 2 is mounted shiftily in a channel 4 of the seat carrier 5.
- a spring 6 is mounted, exerting a pressure upon said upper part 1 ⁇ which urges this upper part 1_towards the seat carrier 5.
- One end of the spring 6 is engaged by a cross-piece 7 fixed between two side walls of the back-rest frame upper part 1, the other, is locked by a bracket 8 of the side wall of the lower part 2 of the back-rest frame.
- a detent unit 9 is placed, comprising two detent plates 10 and 1 . and two push springs 12.
- the detent plates 10 and JM pass through an opening 13 in the rear part of the frame lower part 2 and engage slots 14 in the rear plate of the upper part 1 of the back-rest frame.
- the disengaging of the detent plates is carried-out by a guiding element 15, linked, by means of a spring 16 with a linking member 17, which, at other end, is engaged with incision 18 on the periphery of a cam 19.
- the cam 19 is rotationally mounted upon a roller 20 which is hollow and internally threaded, and into which a knob 2 ⁇ is threaded-in.
- a plate 27 which is fixedly mounted onto the manoeuvring lever 23, pressures the valve 24 of the chair foot 25 when the manoeuvring lever 23 is swung.
- another plate 28 is rotationally but not shiftily mounted, which engages, by its one edge 29, a bracket 30 which is fixed to the periphery of the cam 19.
- a spring 3_1 is situated, set at one of its ends in a hole 32 made in the bottom of the channel 4 and, at its other end, set in opening 33 in the plate 28.
- a swing of the manoeuvring lever 23 about its axis, anticlockwise, causes that the plate 27 exerts pressure upon valve 24 of the chair foot column 25 enabling the setting the height of the seat. Shifting the manoeuvring lever 23 along its longitudinal axis, assisted by the action of the spring 3 L is carried-out stepwise, and the plate 28 can take only two positions, namely positions "A" or position "B". Shifting the lever 23 out, causes shifting the plate 28 into position "B", shifting the lever 23 in, shifts the plate 28 into position "A”.
- the guiding element .15 stops exerting any pressure upon the detent plates 10 and H which, under pushing action of springs 12 are ready for locking the upper part 1 of the back-rest frame by inserting the one of the detent plates 10 or H into any of the slots 14 in the rear wall of the upper part 1 of the back-rest frame.
- the lower part 2 of the back-rest frame can be shifted along the channel 4 of the seat carrier 5 on the stretch equal to the length of the opening 22 thus enabling to set the depth of the back-rest, and after the setting of the desired depth of the back rest is attained, it can be locked by screwing in the knob 21
