Description

Title: Base station for mobile telephony
The invention relates to a base station for mobile telephony, comprising at least one electronics case, at least one antenna device, at least one cabling connecting the antenna device to the electronics case, and optionally at least one cable duct through which the cabling extends at least partially. In a network for mobile telephony, such base stations are set up so as to be distributed over a particular area. Preferably, the antenna device is placed on top of a building. Generally, the electronics case and the cable duct, if any, will likewise be placed on top of a building.
A drawback of the known device is that for a mobile network, it is often difficult to obtain permission from the proprietor of a building to place the base station. This is due to the fact that placement of the base station involves the necessity of making destructive alterations to the building. In this respect, one may think of the drilling of holes in a roof of a building for mounting the antenna device. Depending on the situation, the provision of the base station involves substantial improvisation. As a consequence, the base station, once mounted on the building, creates a disorderly impression and is even experienced as ugly.
The object of the invention is to overcome the above drawbacks and is characterized in that the base station is of modular composition, the electronics case and the antenna device each being separately loosely supported on a horizontal surface without a fixed connection to the horizontal surface having been established.
Because according to the invention, no fixed connection to a horizontal surface can be established, a building hardly undergoes any processing operation through the drilling of holes, gluing and the like, when a base station is placed on the building. Moreover, because use is made of a modularly composed base station, an attractive appearance can be given to each of the modules, as a result of which the base station, once assembled, looks well-ordered in its entiretv. The modular system is flexible such that the base station can be provided on nearly any type of building without drastic alterations to the building.
Preferably, it applies that the antenna device is loosely supported on a horizontal portion on the outer side of a building. This involves the possibility of providing the antenna device with an antenna mast comprising connecting means which fixedly connect the antenna mast to the vertical outer wall of the building and a platform which is located above the connecting means and is loosely supported on the horizontal portion on the outer side of the building. In that case, connections are made only to vertical walls of the building.
Horizontal surfaces of the building, such as, for instance, ridges, roof gutters and flat roofs, remain unaffected.
This likewise applies when another alternative embodiment of the antenna device according to the invention is used. This antenna device comprises a base and a base-connected antenna mast extending from the base in vertical direction, the base being placed loose on the horizontal surface.
The electronics case can be placed loose on the roof as well as loose on the ground next to the building. In the latter case, use will generally be made of a cable duct mounted on an outer wall of a building for having the cabling extend from the electronics case to the antenna device placed on the roof. On the other hand, if the electronics case is placed on the roof of the building, use will preferably be made of a cable duct placed loose on the flat roof of a building and extending from the electronics case to the antenna device.
The above will be further explained with reference to the accompanying drawing.
In Fig. 1, reference numeral 1 designates the base station according to the invention, positioned on and adjacent a building 2. The base station is composed from modular standard components. In this example, the base station comprises three electronics cases 4.1; 4.2 and 4.3, and three antenna devices 6.1; 6.2 and 6.3. Each of the electronics cases 4.1; 4.2 and 4.3 comprises a transceiver known per se. In this example, the electronics case 4.1 is loosely supported on a horizontal surface 8. This horizontal surface 8 is in this example formed by a horizontal roof 8 of the building, i.e. formed from a horizontal portion on the outer side of the building 2. The electronics case 4.1 sits loose on the roof 8 and is hence not fixedly connected to the building 2 by means of bolts and nuts and the like. As a result, the roof 8 has not undergone any destructive alterations through the placement of the electronics case 4.1.
The antenna device 6.1 comprises an antenna mast 10. The antenna mast 10 comprises connecting means 12 by means of which the antenna mast 10 is fixedly connected to a vertical outer wall 14 of the building 2. The antenna device 6.1 further comprises a platform 16 located above the connecting means 12. The platform 16 is fixedly connected to the antenna mast 10. However, the platform 16 is loosely supported on a horizontal portion on the outer side of the building which is in this case again formed by the roof 8. To this end, a planking 18 is present between the platform 16 and the roof 8. In this example, the platform 16 is weighted by means of metal tiles. As a result, the antenna device 6.1 is placed on the building 2 so as to be particularly firm and wmd-resistant without a fixed connection to the roof 8 having been established. In this example, adjacent a top side of the mast 10, a phased-array antenna 20 is arranged and on the platform 16, a dish antenna 22 is mounted, whose operation will not be further explained within the framework of the present patent application.
Via a cabling 24, the antenna device 6.1 is connected to the electronics case 4.1. The cabling 24 is at least partially included in a cable duct 26 extending along a horizontal surface of the building 2. In this case, this is again the flat roof 8. Also to the cable duct 26, it applies that it lies loosely on the roof 8, so that no fixed connection has been established with a horizontal surface of the building 2
To the electronics case 4.3, it applies that it is placed loosely on the ground 28 next to the building 2. The antenna device 6.3 comprises a base 30 and a base-connected antenna mast 32 extending from the base in vertical direction. Adjacent the top side of the antenna mast 32, in this case, two phased-array antennae 20 are mounted. In this example, the base 30 is weighted, just like the platform 16. The base 30 is again placed loose on the roof 8 without a fixed connection to the roof having been made.
By means of a cabling 34, the antenna device 6.3 is connected to the electronics case 4.3. In this example, the cabling 34 extends at least partially in a cable duct 36. This cable duct 36 consists of a portion 36A extending along a horizontal surface formed by the roof 8 of the building 2. To the portion 36A of the cable duct, it again applies that it is not fixedly connected to the roof 8. Another portion 36B of the cable duct extends along a vertical wall of the building and is in fact fixedly connected to the vertical wall 38 of the building. The connection can be established in a manner known per se by means of screwing, gluing and the like. Finally, the base station further comprises the electronics case 4.2 which, like the electronics case 4.1, is placed loose on the roof 8 of the building. The antenna device 6.2 is identical to the antenna device 6.1. The antenna device 6.2 is connected to the electronics case 4.2 in the same manner as the antenna device 6.1 is connected to the building 2. Accordingly, the antenna device 6.2 again comprises a platform 16 which is loosely supported on the flat roof of the electronics case 4.2. Further, the antenna device 6.2 comprises connecting means 12 fixedly connected to a vertical sidewall 40 of the electronics case 4.2.
It will be understood that by means of the modular components of the base station according to the invention, many configurations of the base stations can be composed, depending on the specific situation where the base station is to be placed. Thus, the horizontal surface on which the platform 16 of the antenna device 6.1 is supported may also be formed by a balcony bottom or a ridge of a building. The electronics cases 4.1 and 4.2 may be placed directly on the roof 8. However, it is also possible to place the electronics cases on a planking 18 as shown for the electronics case 4.2. Further, it applies in particular that the electronics case and the antenna device are each separately loosely supported on a horizontal surface not forming part of the base station without any fixed connection being made to that surface. Such variants are each understood to fall within the framework of the invention.
