Abstract
In the process of drilling a concrete in a buildings many times accidentally can damage existing electrical conduit and the wires in side or plumbing pipes. All this damages can be avoid with devise which can indicate a grounded metal. As a grounded metal I consider any metal object which is grounded to the existing electrical system in the building, such as conduit, plumbing pipes, supporting frames or metal beam.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Title: Method and indicator detecting grounded metal.
This invention relates to a method and indicator detecting grounded metal.
None of the drills on the market are equipped with a device to detect grounded
metal. This creates huge problems and a lost of money ,when the conduit
and the wires inside are damaged in the process of drilling holes in the concrete .
I have found that these disadvantages can be solved with detecting any grounded
metal and preventing from further damages on a conduit ,water pipe or drill bit .
DESCRIPTION
The method of indicating a grounded metal works on a closing power circuit
between the phase and the neutral line .
As a indicator I am using a neon bulb 125 V, 1/3W .
To prevent eventual short circuit between the hot wire from our circuit to possible
hot wire from damaged conduit or any other source I am using 2 A , 125V fuse
connected in series to the bulb. The system can operate either with or without a
fuse. All connections can be done inside the drill .(See drawing 1/1).
One end of the wire co ing from the bulb 2 is connected in series to the fuse 1 .
The fuse 1 is connected to the phase 5.
Another end from the bulb 2 is connected to the metal body of the mechanical
drilling mechanism 3, which will provide neutral signals from the electrical
network , when the drill bit touch the grounded metal 4 . In this case the neutral
signal coming from the grounded metal 4 going through the drill bit and the metal
body on mechanical drilling mechanism 3 and from there through the wire 7
connecting this mechanism 3 with the bulb 2 the neutral signal going to the bulb
2 which will flash because the electrical circuit- is closed .
Wh n the light is Hashing it means that the drill bit is touching the grounded
metal
and the person who is drilling should stop in order to prevent damaging this metal
object which can be electrical conduit, plumbing pipe or damaging the drill bit.
As a indicator which will show the moment of touching the grounded metal
can be use any type of bulb as: incandescent lamp, light-emitting diodes,
gaseous-discharge lamps(fluorescent, neon, metal halide lamp).
Claims
1. A method of detecting tlie grounded metal .
2. The neon bulb with or without the fuse connected in series as a grounded metal
indicator.
3. The way of which the bulb is connected to perform as a grounded metal
indicator ,as shown on drawing 1/1. In which one end of tlie wire (6)coming from
the bulb(2) is connected in series to the fuse ( l).The fuse ( 1) is connected to the
phase of the power supply cable (5), which supply power to the electrical motor
(8)an the drill . Another wire(7) from the bulb (2)is connected to the metal body
of the mechanical drilling mechanism (3). which will provide the neutral signal
from tl e electrical network . when tlie drill bit touch the grounded metal (4).
4. A bulb as defined in claim 2 can be : incandescent lamp, light-emitting diodes,
gaseous-discharge lamps(iluorescent .neon .metal halide lamp).
