Abstract

'Practical Packing for Pizza' made of two parts; Oven (A) and lid (B) having thermal and absorbing qualities such that the oven (A) is made of expanded polystyrene or similar material, consists of a tray whose base (1) has a diameter little smaller than its upper border (2) having parallel relieves (4, 5) in its inner face (3) spaced so as to form a cavity which functions as a seal when the lid, having perforations (7) in a semi circle to enable its opening by the customer, is put in place.

Description

Descriptive Report of the Patent of Utility Model 'Practical Packing for Pizza'
This report shows a model of a practical packing for pizza developed to overcome the limitations imposed by the traditional models thus providing a more practical packing, also improving its usage.
Considering the present technology as a reference, we can observe that the packings, used for takeaway pizzas, are generally boxes made of simple card board, the only difference being in the shape or thickness of the material. Due to its poor sealing system all the existing models cannot maintain the food temperature for the necessary time required for delivery which is between 20-40 min except in cases of very short distances.
Trying to find a solution for this problem of temperature loss during the delivery, a new type of packing was introduced, made of thermally insulating material of expanded poliesterene or similar types, which although maintained the food temperature, weren't well accepted in the market. Mainly due to the formation of humidity inside the packing thus altering the food consistency and flavor. in order to eliminate this problem various holes were made in the lid (top) of the packing to function as airvents for the vapor released by hot pizza. But in doing so we returned to our initial problem which is the temperature loss occuring as the vapor released by hot pizzas escapes through the airvents provoking this loss and which is what was to be maintained.
Finding a simultaneous solution for these problems (temperature loss and formation of humidity) the requested patent MU7601817 published in RPI 1442 on 11th May 1998 describes a specific packing for pizza made of four parts as follows: two discs of card board (one for the lid and the other for the tray) glued together to its respective poliesterene or similar material rings (one for the lid and the other for the tray) and in this manner creating a perfect sealing system. The combination of distinct materials (polietelene and card board) in the composition of the packing made it possible to have a perfect sealing system and so, maintaining the food temperature for a longer period than the traditional packings avoiding leakage of sauces and other ingredients and the formation of humidity in the inteiror of the packing since card board has thermal and absorbing qualities. Through the model refered to in this report its possible to achieve, apart from the above mentioned results, a significant functional improvement resulting in a better usage of the packing as well as in its production since the process of gluing is totally eliminated.
The requested model shown represented in figure 1 is formed by two parts: Oven (A) and lid(B). The first is manufactured with expanded manufactured poliesterene or similar material and consists of a tray whose base (1) is a little smaller than its border (2) forming an angle of 100° approximately which allows an economy of space not only for transport but for stocking because they can be piled up easily.
In the inner face of the border (3) there are two parallel relieves (4) (5) which outline the internal perimeter in two different places: the first (4) starts from the trays upper border (6) and the second (5) is just a little bit below so that there's a small space between the two forming a cavity (7) which works as a lock when the lid (B) is put in place thus creating a perfect sealing system of the packing. The lid (B) is made of card board with perforations in a semi circle making the opening easy for the customer. With all these above mentioned characteristics this model represents an important evolution in the concept of packings for pizzas solving simultaneously in an economical and practical way frequent technical problems: temperature loss during the delivery period (which occurs when traditional packings made of card board or styrofoam (expanded poliesterene ones with holes in the lid); formation of humidity in the interior (occuring in packings made of styrofoam expanded poliesterene without holes in the lid); necessity of gluing in the production to have a perfect sealing (a condition required by the contrivance presented in MU 7601817 afore mentioned).
