Abstract

The aim of the invention is to provide a synthetic monofilament on the basis of polybutyleneterephthalate, whereby said monofilament is provided with better abrasion stability and dimensional stability properties in relation to synthetic fibres made of pure polybulyeneterephthalate and is sufficiently flexible at the same time. To this end, a synthetic monofilament made of polybutyleneterephthalate and polyurethane is provided.

Description

'Monofile Kunstfaser' 'Monofilament synthetic fiber'
Die Erfindung betrifft monofile Kunstfasern auf Polybutylen- terephthalatbasis .The invention relates to monofilament synthetic fibers based on polybutylene terephthalate.
Monofilament synthetic fibers made from polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) are known (e.g. Hans-Jürgen Saechtling: Plastic Pocket Book, 22nd edition, 1983, page 298 ff., Carl Hanser-Verlag, Munich). These monofilaments can be used, for example, for the production of fabrics and screens for paper machines. Since such monofilaments are subjected to particularly high mechanical and chemical stresses in use, efforts are being made to improve such mechanical fibers based on polybutylene terephthalate with regard to their mechanical and chemical properties.
The object of the invention is to provide a synthetic fiber based on polybutylene terephthalate which, compared to synthetic fibers made of pure polybutylene terephthalate, has better properties with regard to abrasion resistance and dimensional stability, but is nevertheless sufficiently flexible.
This object is achieved according to the invention with a monofilament synthetic fiber of the type mentioned at the outset by a mixture of polybutylene terephthalate and polyurethane. It was surprisingly found that the admixture of polyurethane synthetic fibers made of polybutylene terephthalate can significantly improve many properties. The addition of polyurethane primarily has the effect that the abrasion which arises due to the contact between the fabric and the drive rollers, for example in the paper machine, is substantially reduced. In addition, there is an increase in the flexibility of the monofilament and thus also of the finished fabric formed therefrom. This makes it easier for larger fabrics to be drawn into the individual paper machine sectors equipped with rotating rollers because of the greater flexibility.
Furthermore, it has been found that in the needle process, e.g. in the production of a wet felt, the addition of polyurethane can prevent the splicing of the monofilament. In such a needle process, it is inevitable that a number of monofilaments in the tissue are damaged by the retracting needles.
A monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention can be produced by the usual extrusion spinning process. Raw material dry air dryers ensure in advance that the raw material mixture which is fed to the extruder does not have too high a moisture content. As extruders single as well as twin screws with and without degassing are used. All other parts of the plant correspond to the technical conditions necessary for standard monofilament production.
A composition of 1-30% by weight of polyurethane and ad 100% by weight of polybutylene terephthalate has proven to be advantageous, with a composition of 1 to 10% by weight of polyurethane and ad 100% by weight of polybutylene terephthalate being particularly advantageous in most applications.
The monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention is particularly preferably suitable for the production of fabrics or sieves, in particular for paper machine clothing. These paper machine clothing can be used in the paper machine both in the wire section and in the press section as well as in the dryer section.
Die Erfindung ist nachstehend anhand von Ausführungsbeispie- len näher erläutert:The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments:
Beispiel 1:Example 1:
A state-of-the-art synthetic fiber made of pure polybutylene terephthalate was first examined, with a thread diameter of 0.22 mm. This Fa The diameter was examined because such a thread is frequently used in the wet felt area in paper machines. This synthetic fiber is referred to below as synthetic fiber I.
Beispiel 2:Example 2:
In contrast, a monofilament synthetic fiber according to the invention with the following composition was examined: 95.0% by weight of polybutylene terephthalate and 5.0% by weight of polyurethane, this fiber is referred to below as synthetic fiber II. It also had a diameter of 0.22 mm.
Beide Kunstfasern wurden jeweils einer Scheuerprüfung unterzogen. Die Ergebnisse sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle dargestellt:Both synthetic fibers were subjected to a scrubbing test. The results are shown in the table below:
Tabelle:Table:

As can be seen from the above test results, it can be clearly seen that compared to known synthetic fibers made of pure polybutylene terephthalate, the mechanical properties can be significantly improved with an artificial fiber according to the invention. In particular, the abrasion can be reduced by more than 50%.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment shown. Further configurations are possible without leaving the basic idea.
