Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de localiser un utilisateur dans un réseau radio. Un ordinateur mobile destiné à déterminer sa position à l'intérieur d'un bâtiment détecte l'intensité de signal d'une ou plusieurs stations de base radio situées à des emplacements connus dans tout le bâtiment. Une table, définissant des profils d'environnement et présentant les emplacements connus à l'intérieur du bâtiment et l'intensité de signal de la station de base à ces emplacements, est consultée afin de trouver l'intensité de signal mémorisée la plus proche de l'intensité de signal détectée. L'emplacement correspondant à l'intensité de signal mémorisée la plus proche est défini comme l'emplacement courant de l'ordinateur mobile. La table peut être dérivée empiriquement, en plaçant un ordinateur mobile aux emplacements connus et en mesurant l'intensité de signal des stations de base radio à ces emplacements, ou mathématiquement, à partir d'une intensité de signal de référence, de la distance entre le point de référence et l'emplacement connu, et du nombre de murs entre le point de référence et l'emplacement connu. En variante, les stations de base peuvent mesurer l'intensité de signal de l'ordinateur mobile. Dans ce cas, la table associe une position connue de l'ordinateur mobile à l'intensité de signal de celui-ci mesurée par une ou plusieurs stations de base. La définition de profils d'environnement s'effectue par comparaison de plusieurs tables différentes, correspondant à des environnements divers, et par utilisation de la table minimisant l'erreur. La définition de profils d'environnement peut s'appliquer à des tables déterminées empiriquement ou mathématiquement.
