Abstract

The transmission of traffic information from a control centre to a terminal is optimised with regard to the volume of the data that is to be transmitted. Said optimisation is carried out by means of a control centre, a terminal and a method for decoding (15) traffic information (4, 5, 6; 7) on a road traffic network (4712, 4713 ...), which information is transmitted from a traffic information control centre (1) to a terminal (2), whereby said traffic information (4 to 7) thus transmitted represents at least the status and identity ('4714', '4713') of at least one segment (4714, 4713) of the road traffic network. The terminal (2) stores the traffic information (4, 5, 6, 7) obtained from transmission along with segment data ('4712',...) which represents the relevant segments in the direction of the traffic of the relevant lane in the relevant segments and stores the status of the information contained in the data which represents segments. The terminal (2) compares segments (4716, 4715, 4714, 4713) which represent current traffic information (7) that has been transmitted to the terminal with segments which represent older traffic information (4; 5; 6) that has been transmitted before said current traffic information (7).
