Abstract

Cette invention concerne un procédé permettant de charger sur un navire des charges de grandes dimensions et d'un seul tenant (par exemple, des blocs de glace), et de les en décharger. Ce procédé consiste à sortir les charges hors de l'eau et à les faire passer directement dans la cale du navire. Le chargement s'effectue dans une section de chargement qui se trouve à la proue ou à la poupe du navire, et qui est définie par des bords allongés s'enfonçant dans la mer, par des cloisons mobiles et par des portes de cale. La section de chargement comprend un compartiment de réception et un compartiment de transit. Le chargement se fait en régulant le niveau d'eau dans lesdits compartiments. Ce navire de transport de glace comprend un corps intermédiaire à doubles parois, ainsi que des corps latéraux renfermant les machines. Afin de disposer les charges dans la cale, on utilise un système de flottaison de type barge-conteneur qui comprend des parois thermo-isolantes doubles et que l'on fixe par congélation contre les parois de la cale lors du processus de transport à bord du navire de transport de glace.
