Abstract

Cette invention se rapporte au domaine de la protection de l'environnement et peut être utilisée dans la sorption de nappes de pétrole et de produits pétroliers à la surface d'étendues d'eau, ainsi que pour localiser des fuites de pétrole, notamment de pétrole en feu. Ce procédé de production d'un sorbant à base de graphite consiste à effectuer une expansion thermique d'une poudre de graphite oxydé. Le graphite oxydé est préalablement mélangé à une poudre d'un composé de fer, de cobalt ou de nickel dans un liquide organique de manière à conférer au sorbant des propriétés magnéto-actives. Après avoir réparti uniformément le composé de métal dans le volume du mélange, on sépare le liquide organique et on fait sécher la phase solide jusqu'à ce qu'elle atteigne un état meuble, ladite phase étant ensuite soumise à une expansion thermique à une température de 900 à 1300° C. Le composé de fer consiste principalement en des composés oxydes, notamment de la magnétite (Fe3O4). Les composés de cobalt et de nickel peuvent être utilisés avec les composés de fer ou séparément. Le graphite oxydé peut être mélangé à de la poudre de magnétite jusqu'à ce que l'on atteigne un contenu en fer de 1,5 à 35 % en poids une fois celui-ci transformé en métal. Les liquides organiques acceptables consistent en de l'essence, de l'acétone, du carburant diesel ou un condensé gazeux, d'autres liquides pouvant également être utilisés.
