Abstract
Grace to its retainer (19) the pivoting magazine assembly containing the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles (1) can be attached to the frame (20) of any types of rifled small arms. When mounted, the axis of symmetry (6) of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles (1) contained in the magazine (12) is aligned with the axis of symmetry of the bore (17) at the distance of retainer (T) taken from the muzzle (22). The projectile of the live ammunition fired (4) impacts into the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile (1), gets distorted and the two projectiles fly together towards the target. When the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles (1) have been emptied from their magazine (12) the empty magazine (12) will not impede to fire normal shots. When the magazine (12) is not empty and a normal shot must be fired in the weapon, then the magazine (12) can be turned away from the axis of symmetry of the bore (17) either manually by means of spring force by the pivoting coupling (18) and in this way the assembly mounted on the weapon will not hinder the firing of the normal shot.
Description
MAGAZINE-LOADED OVER-CALIBRE NON-LETHAL KINETIC ENERGY
PROJECTILE INITIATED BY PROJECTILE OF THE LIVE AMMUNITION
WITH PIVOTING MAGAZINE ASSEMBLY
The subject matter of the invention is a magazine- loaded over-calibre non-lethal kinetic energy projectile initiated by live ammunition with pivoting magazine assembly, preferably for use with rifled small-arms. The use of pistols, revolvers and submachine gun is a dangerous act, as their projectiles can cause lethal or serious injuries. This circumstance can in many cases query the otherwise justified use of a firearm. To reduce the dangers rubber, plastic, small-pellet or other projectiles are used for rifled small arms and the use of them must be initiated either individually, or if these projectiles are magazine- loaded, than the pistols magazine is loaded with such projectiles. In this case no conventional ammunition can be fired from the pistol without change of the magazine or without change of the rounds in the case of a revolver. Besides, these "safe" projectiles are not sufficiently efficient and their projectiles lack stopping power.
This invention thrives to achieve that the energy of the projectiles of rifled small-arms be turned to profit either in the original way or by the use of high stopping power non-lethal kinetic energy projectile. In the most general sense of the objective set the invention is a magazine-loaded over-calibre non-lethal kinetic energy projectile initiated by a live ammunition projectile with a pivoting magazine assembly, preferably for use with rifled small-arms, comprising a projectile body, wherein the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile further comprises
- on the bottom plane of the projectile body an entrance orifice for the live ammunition projectile; - in the projectlie body a projectile channel of a diameter (D) identical to that of the live ammunition projectile formed in axial symmetry with the axis of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile, tightly plugged by the live ammunition projectile;
- an impact surface (8) at the end of the projectile channel; and a/ a bullet trap perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile, accommodating the live ammunition
projectile distorted on the impact surface, the axial length (R) of the perpendicular bullet trap being shorter than the length (L) of the live ammunition projectile; or b/ an axial closed bullet trap aligned around the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile; or c/ an axial open bullet trap.
The proposed arrangement for a non-lethal kinetic energy projectile of the invention, initiated by a live ammunition projectile with a pivoting magazine assembly, preferably for use with rifled small-arms, the pivoting magazine assembly of which comprises a magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile, having a magazine body, a magazine base plate, a magazine spring and a magazine platform, wherein it further comprises a pivoting coupling keeping the magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles in the axis of symmetry of the bore or permitting the magazine to decline from the axis of symmetry; and a retainer attachable to the frame of the weapon.
a magazine-loaded over-calibre non-lethal kinetic energy projectile initiated by live ammunition with pivoting magazine assembly, advantageous for use with rifled small-arms. The magazine-loaded over-calibre non-lethal kinetic energy projectile consists of the body of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile described in such manner that the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile has:
- on its bottom plane an entrance orifice for the live ammunition;
- a projectile channel with a diameter identical to that of the projectile around the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile tightly plugged by the projectile of the live ammunition; - an impact surface at the end of the projectile channel;
- bullet. trap perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile accommodating the projectile distorted on the impact surface; - a closing orifice (which is shorter than the length of the projectile of the live ammunition) of the perpendicular bullet trap;
- or an axial closed bullet trap aligned around the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile;
- or an axial open bullet trap.
In the most general sense of the objective the subject matter of the invention is a magazine-loaded over-calibre non-lethal kinetic energy projectile initiated by live ammunition with pivoting magazine assembly, advantageous for use with rifled small-arms, the pivoting magazine assembly of which consists the magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile, magazine body, magazine base plate, magazine spring and magazine platform. The invention is further described as having a pivoting coupling, keeping the magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles either in the axis of symmetry of the barrel or permitting to decline from the axis of symmetry; and it has a retainer attachable to the frame of the weapon.
The invention is further described by way of an example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side sectional view of a pivoting magazine assembly of the projectile of the
invention; Figure 2 is a front view of the pivoting magazine assembly, in the position permitting the firing of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile;
Figure 3 is a front view of the pivoting magazine assembly, with turned away magazine ready for normal firing;
Figures 4 are longitudinal cross-sections of the non- lethal kinetic energy projectiles of the invention, with a) a perpendicular bullet trap; b) an axial closed bullet; c) an axial open bullet trap. On the bottom plane 3 of the body 2 of the non- lethal kinetic energy projectile 1 a projectile entrance orifice 5 has been shaped for the projectile of the live ammunition 4. The projectile channel 7 is around the axis of symmetry of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile 6 and on the end there is the impact surface 8. The bullet trap can be a perpendicular bullet trap 9 with a closing orifice (R) , axial closed bullet trap 10 or axial open bullet trap 11. L denotes the length of the projectile of the live ammunition. The magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles 12 consists of a magazine body 13, a magazine base plate 14, a magazine spring 15 and a
magazine platform 16 lifting the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile in the axis of symmetry of the bore. The pivoting coupling 18 is between the retainer and
the magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles. The number 20 denotes the frame of the small arm, T is the retainer length, 21 is the exit opening of the magazine, 22 is the muzzle and D stands for the diameter of the projectile of the live ammunition.
The mode of operation is simple. The non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles are loaded in the magazine in the traditional way. The entire magazine assembly 20 is attached to the frame by the retainer 19 in such manner that the axis of symmetry 6 of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile 1 in the exit opening of the magazine 21 coincides with the axis of symmetry of the bore. Now, the bottom plane 3 of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile 1 is in distance T from the muzzle 22. In this manner the small arm and the pivoting magazine assembly constitute a single unit. When the shot is fired, the projectile of the live ammunition leaves the muzzle and after covering the retainer length (T) it enters the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile 1 through the projectile entrance orifice 5 and through the projectile channel 7 arrives at the impact surface. At the impact it transmits its kinetic energy (with some loss) to the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile 1 which will start together with the
projectile of the live ammunition 4 and through the exit opening of the magazine 21 shoots out on its trajectory to the target. The diameter of the projectile of the live ammunition (D) tightly seals the projectile channel 7 and therefore no crumbs from the projectile of the live ammunition can move backwards. Space shall be appropriated for the deformation of the projectile bounding against. The closing orifice (R) of the perpendicular bullet trap 9 shall fulfil the plugging requirements in the case of the deformed projectile of the live ammunition 4, too. Should the muzzle energy of the projectile of the live ammunition 4 be so high, that the non-lethal kinetic energy projectile would hit to strongly then it would be recommended to use an axial open bullet trap 11, significantly deforming the projectile of the live ammunition 4 but not completely stopping it. The projectile of the live ammunition 4 leaves the non- lethal kinetic energy projectile with strongly reduced energy and revs and a bad form factor while the non-
lethal kinetic energy projectile is launched only by the force necessary for the deformation. Because in the target the impacts differ in space and time, the high muzzle energy if divided, can reduce the lethality. In the magazine 12 the feeding of the non-lethal kinetic
energy projectiles takes place in the traditional way. When the magazine of the non-lethal kinetic energy projectiles 12 has been emptied the traditional shot can be fired through the empty magazine. If the magazine 12 contains (a) non-lethal kinetic energy projectile (s) , but it would be practical to fire a regular shot from the weapon, then the magazine 12 can be turned away from the axis of symmetry of the bore with the help of the pivoting coupling 18. [Figure 3]. The magazine 12 has two arrest positions: the normal position and the turned-away position. The magazine 12 can be turned away from its normal position either manually or spring force. It is practical to turn it back to the normal position from the turned-away position manually. The invention offers the advantage of converting a high muzzle energy rifled smalled arm into a multipurpose and less dangerous one.
