Abstract

A low-cost infant monitor that reliably is obtaining, transmitting, receiving and broadcasting audible signals includes a transmitter and a receiver. Both the transmitter and receiver include a single high motional capacitance crystal selectively connectable one of a plurality of loads to select one of a predetermined number of carrying frequencies for the infant monitor. A transmitter of the infant monitor may include a power regulator having interconnected transistors operably associated to produce an output voltage at least partially independent of the input voltage. In this power regulator, the interconnected transistors each have a base connected to a voltage controlled by the other transistor. A filter may be provided for smoothing the output voltage and a power monitor circuit may be provided to provide a first indication if voltage has been supplied to the infant monitor, and to provide a second indication if the power supplied to the infant monitor is below a threshold voltage. A filter circuit for use in the transmitter can be formed to include a transformer operable to band pass filter the input frequency modulated carrier frequency and to select a harmonic of the input frequency modulated carrier frequency.
