- This invention concerns a functional fluid, preferably a gear oil, that is compatible with water-based functional fluids used in metaiworking operations.
- Functional fluids are primarily used to prevent metal-to-metal contact between moving metal parts. Functional fluids also act by reducing friction and protecting against corrosion, thereby increasing the working life of the metal parts.
- Functional fluids such as gear oils are used in, for example, worm gear boxes as transmission fluids in cars and in machine presses that deform metal sheets, such as tin coated steel or aluminium sheets, to produce deformed components such as metal cans.
