Description

Verfahren zur Herstellung gehärteter Filterstäbe in der Zigarettenindustrie Process for the production of hardened filter rods in the cigarette industry
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Auftragen eines Weichmachers auf einen Filter Tow-Streifen aus Celluloseacetat im Rahmen der Herstellung gehärteter FUterstäbe in der ZigarettenindustrieThe invention relates to a method for applying a plasticizer to a filter tow strip made of cellulose acetate in the context of the production of hardened feedstocks in the cigarette industry
In the manufacture of filters in the cigarette industry, a filter tow strip is continuously withdrawn from a bale. The material is stretched continuously and then sprayed with a plasticizer from a metering device. The filter tow strip is then combined into a fuse, wrapped with paper, glued and cut into filter rods. The filter rod finally hardens to contain its final hardness depending on the amount of plasticizer and type of plasticizer applied. The curing rate also depends on the type of plasticizer.
A device suitable for carrying out the above method is described in DE-C-31 22 557. The filter tow strip is sprayed on one side with a plasticizer. A double-sided application of the plasticizer is disclosed in DE-A-28 14 681.
According to the state of the art, different plasticizers are currently used. For example, US Pat. No. 3,032,829 describes, in addition to various phthalic acid residues, triethyl citrate and glycerol triacetate (triacetin) as suitable, in each case in concentrations of 2 to 30% by weight, the range from 4 to 15% by weight being preferred. In recent work, triethylene glycol diacetate is addressed as a suitable plasticizer. Triethylene glycol diacetate cures faster than glycerol triacetate and triethyl citrate The kinetics of the hardening process of the filter material sprayed with plasticizer is becoming increasingly important for the cigarette filter processing industry. Until a few years ago, the freshly made filter rods were stored on the cigarette filter attachment machine at least 24 hours before further processing. This seemed necessary because a certain minimum hardness of the filter material was necessary for processing on a cigarette filter attachment machine. For reasons of rationalization, these interim storage times have been significantly reduced, usually to 20 minutes. Although the technology of filter attachment has improved significantly, a certain minimum hardness is currently necessary. The speed of the curing process is therefore of great importance. There have been considerations in the past that instead of the plasticizer triacetin triethylene glycol diacetate, which is mainly used today. However, the selective retention effect of triacetin on taste-relevant ingredients of cigarette smoke differs significantly from the corresponding specific retention for triethylene glycol diacetate. Therefore, triethylene glycol diacetate is rejected for taste reasons and triacetin preferred. It is strictly required that the plasticizer used in each case, and consequently the preferred triacetin, exclude water as far as possible. Therefore, the suppliers always state the water content, which should be less than 0.1% by weight. The maximum value of 0.1% by weight of water in the commercial triacetin guarantees its long-term storage without decomposition. Otherwise, hydrolysis creates acetic acid. In addition to the sensory test, the water content test is the only one that is carried out in the tobacco industry when plasticizers are used.
As a result, the current proposals of the prior art for producing hardened filter rods from filter tow strips made of cellulose acetate are unsatisfactory. Thus, faster curing would be desirable without the manufactured product deteriorating physically and sensorially. It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose an improvement here. According to the invention, this object is achieved by a method for applying a plasticizer to a filter tow strip made of cellulose acetate in the course of the production of hardened filter rods in the cigarette industry in that a water-containing plasticizer is applied.
Accordingly, it was surprisingly found according to the invention that, contrary to the strict requirement of the prior art, a water-containing plasticizer can advantageously be used for the stated purpose, the water content preferably being at least about 0.5% by weight and preferably reaching the maximum saturation level . In the preferred triacetin, the water content is preferably between about 1 and 4% by weight. However, advantageous results can still be achieved if saturation of approximately 5% by weight is present and this value is even exceeded, for example more than 6.5%. Separation can occur here. In this case, it is expedient and advantageous to mix the water with the anhydrous triacetin obtained from the supplier in a high-speed mixer, so that the finest possible emulsion is formed. Here are conveniently small amounts of emulsifiers, in particular polysorbate and sorbitan esters (Tween ® and clamping ® from ICI) used.
In diesem Temperaturrahmen erfolgt zusätzlich ein vorteilhaftes Anlosen des besprühten Filter Tow- Materials Eine zu hohe Temperatur wurde zu unerwünschten Effekten fuhren, so beispielsweise zu einer Zerstörung des bevorzugt eingesetzten Triacetins durch Hydrolyse Darüber hinaus würden andere Großen, wie beispielsweise die Stabilität der jeweils verwendeten Leime etc , ungunstig beeinflußtIt is preferably carried out in such a way that the respective plasticizer, in particular the commercial triacetin which is preferably used, is stored in a customary large storage container. From this, the plasticizer is drawn off into a separate dosing container, into which water is dosed in the desired amount. When the saturation point is exceeded and an emulsion with finely dispersed water content is to be produced, this is expediently carried out with vigorous stirring using a high-speed mixer. The water-containing plasticizer is then discharged to act on the filter tow strip at one time or at a time. The two-sided order is considered preferred. Water-containing plasticizers not taken up by the filter tow strip run out of the application system under the action of gravity and are expediently returned to the separate metering container. Accordingly, the system shown here is an advantageous development of the prior art, as described for example in DE-A-28 14 681. The present invention is not subject to any significant restrictions on the manner in which the water-containing plasticizer is applied to the filter tow strip, although the brush application method is preferred. The publications mentioned at the beginning deal in particular with the various order processes. The choice of the temperature range at which the water-containing plasticizer is applied to the filter tow strip is also not critical. When using water-containing triacetin, a temperature range of approximately 30 ° to 60 ° C., in particular 40 ° to 50 ° C., is preferred. In this temperature range there is also an advantageous solubilization of the sprayed filter tow material. Too high a temperature would lead to undesirable effects, for example to the destruction of the preferred triacetin by hydrolysis.Other sizes, such as the stability of the glue used etc , adversely affected
As a result, it was surprisingly found according to the invention that water-containing plasticizers, in particular water-containing triacetin, can be used in the process described at the outset, a water content of approximately at least 0.5% by weight having an advantageous effect with regard to the hard kinetics, without causing disturbances Rather, improvements arise in various respects. Since the moisture content of the filter rod adjusts to the respective equilibrium moisture content of the cellulose acetate-triacetin-water system after final storage, the filter rod produced according to the invention does not differ from traditionally produced ones. They have an identical final hardness. The cigarettes made from these filter rods also show no sensory differences from the known cigarettes. In addition, to further accelerate the hard kinetics, there is the possibility of storing the process products at elevated temperatures and elevated atmospheric humidity and thus with the indirect entry of moisture. Gentle treatment with microwaves can also follow.
Die Erfindung wird nachfolgend anhand von Beispielen noch naher erläutert: VergleichsbeispielThe invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of examples: Comparative example
A filter tow strip of specification 3, OY35 with a filament titer of 3.33 dtex and a total filter of 38890 dtex was processed on a KDF-AF3 system from Hauni, Hamburg. The tensile resistance of the filter rod was 355 daPa with a filter length of 126 mm and a diameter of 7.8 mm. The above system from the company Hauni, Hamburg, is equipped with a double brush spray, similar to that according to DE-A 28 14 681. A triacetine content of 8.0% by weight, based on the fiber weight, was aimed for. A product from Henkel with a specified purity of 99.9% was used as the triacetin. After 20 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours and 24 hours, the hardness was determined using the Borgwaldt measurement method. The values of the Borgwaldt hardness (BH) of this series of measurements are recorded in Table 1 under "test example" and are shown graphically in the following FIG. 1.
