Abstract

The invention refers to an improvement in a waste container cover, said cover (2) is sealable over the opening (5) of the container (1). The inside (6) of the cover (2) has a fire guard apparatus or smoke detector (7) which during smoke development from the container (1) is provided to deliver a signal to a release means (9), near at least one supporting means (15; 16) keeping the cover (2) in an open position, in order to release said supporting means (15; 16), so that the cover (2) falls downwards over the container opening (5) and stifles fire if any.

Description

Improvements in or relating to a waste container cover
The present invention relates to an improvement in a waste container cover, said cover is sealable over the opening of the container.
Waste containers now on the market can in certain circumstances be provided with a cover which covers the container opening when the container is not used or during transport. hen used, the cover is in its open position. If e.g. the contents situated in the container of some reason should start to burn, a person near the container can manually close the container by aid of its cover, whereby the fire usually is stifled and burnt out. Is nobody in the neighbourhood which can close the cover, the fire can be spread if it comes to the worst, which can lead to disastrous consequences .
The object of the present invention is to provide a waste container cover which closes automatically during fire and/or smoke development in the container. The characterizing features of the invention are stated in the claims enclosed.
Thanks to the invention one has now obtained an improvement in or relating to a waste container cover which in an excellent way fulfills its purposes at the same time as it also is both cheep and simple to manufacture. By using a fire guard apparatus or smoke detector situated on the inside of the cover which influences a supporting means which supports the cover in its open position, the cover can be automatically closed during fire or smoke development, whereby any fire very quickly and effecively is stifled.
The invention is described more in detail below by aid of a preferred embodiment example by aid of the drawings enclosed, in which
Fig. l shows a perspective view of a waste container having a cover arrangement according to the invention, Fig. 2 shows a side view in a larger scale of the cover arrangement according to fig, l,
Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a waste container having a cover arrangement according to a second embodiment example of the invention and
Fig 4 shows a side view in a larger scale of the embodiment example of the cover arrangement according to fig.3.
As can be seen from fig. 1 and 2 in the drawings a first and a secong embodiment example of a waste container l is provided with a cover 2 having an improvement according to the invention. The cover 2 is pivoted in one elongated upper side 4 of the container l by aid of a hinge 3 and covers the opening 5 of said container l in its closed position. The inside 6 of the cover 2 is provided with a fire guard apparatus or smoke detector 7 , which is connected to a release means 9 mounted on the upper side 8 of the cover 2. The release means 9 consists of an electromagnet 10 having a piston 11 movable in a forward and backward direction and said electromagnet 10 can be activated by a signal from the smoke detector 7 , whereby the free end 12 of the piston 11 is pulled out from an opening 13 in a bracket 14 and releases the same so that at least one supporting means 15; 16, which regulates opening and closing of the cover 2 , is released so that its supporting function ceases and the cover 2 falls downwards over the container opening 5.
The supporting means 15; 16 consists of a friction piston 18 displaceably provided in a cylinder 17. One end 19 of the supporting means 15; 16 is pivoted in the upper edge portion 20 of the container 1 and the other end 21 is pivotably mounted in the edge portion 22 of the cover 2 near its hinge side 23 via the bracket 14. One end 24 of the bracket 14 is pivoted in the edge portion 22 and its other end 25 is releasably fixed by the opening 13 to the free end portion 12 of the piston 11, which is moveable forwards and backwards. In fig. 3 and 4 another preferable embodiment example of the cover arrangement according to the invention is illustrated. In this example the release means 9 is located in connection to one or two fire guard apparatus 7. The bracket 14 is here designed with a straight portion 26 turnably provided in bearing seats 27 and 28. In front of the inner seat 27 the bracket 14 is bent about 90° and constitutes with this bent portion that end 25, which is releasably fixed to e.g. an opening 13 in the bracket 14. A short distance from the other, outer bearing seat 28 the bracket 14 has a short portion 29 bent in an angle, in the free end 30 of which the other end 21 of the supporting means 15;16 is pivoted.
During a fire in the waste container l the release means 9 influences the electromagnet 10, the piston 11 of which pulls the free end portion 12 inwards out from the opening 13 in the end 25 of the bracket 14, whereby the same turns upwards at the same time as the straight portion 26 turns and urges the short portion 29 in a direction upwards, which in turn, pulls out the friction piston 18 of the supporting means 15; 16 such a long distance that its supporting function becomes so little that the cover 2, owing to its own weight, falls downwards and closes the opening 5 of the waste container 1 in spite of the lifting force of the existence of another supporting means 15; 16, which alone is not sufficient big to keep the cover 2 in its open position. In the preferred embodiment examples illustrated, gas springs may well be used as supporting means 15;16.

Claims

Claims
