Abstract

The invention relates to a connecting device linking at least one chip card, a chip card reader and the host. The device comprises a clip (3) which serves as a reader and connector for at least one card (16), with the reading clip (3) ensuring the link with the host (2) by way of a communication protocol. The aim of the device is to facilitate the use of a chip card in a chip card reader.

   "Connection device between at least one smart card, a reader and the host."
 The subject of the invention is a device for connecting between at least one smart card, a smart card reader and the host.



   The purpose of the device is to facilitate the use of a smart card in a smart card reader.



   In the current state, the user has his PCMCIA type smart card reader, for example, embedded directly in the host, in this case the PC. The user must therefore have his "host" closest to him to have easy access to his smart card reader. In addition, for reasons of standards
PCMCIA, inserting and removing a smart card from a reader is not very easy.



   FR-A-2.743.464: The invention presents an apparatus, for example a portable telephone, provided with a smart card reader comprising a connector which can be brought into contact with the terminals of an integrated circuit present on a card chip conforming to a first format called full-SIM format, further provided with a removable housing intended to be fixed in the operating position opposite the smart card reader, finally provided with an adapter allowing the introduction and reading of a smart card conforming to a second format called micro-SIM format, characterized in that the removable housing contains the adapter, which adapter consists of a cavity intended to serve as a receptacle for a smart card conforms to micro-SIM format,

   in that the removable housing comprises a device for holding the position of the chip card conforming to the micro-SIM format in the cavity, and in that the cavity and the device for maintaining in position are configured so that the terminals of the circuit integrated on the micro-SIM card are placed opposite the connector of the smart card reader after insertion of said card.



     -FR-A-2. 743. 463: The invention presents an apparatus, for example a portable telephone, provided with a chip card reader comprising a connector which can be brought into contact with the terminals of an integrated circuit present on a chip card conforming to a first format called full-SIM format, further provided with an adapter allowing the insertion and reading of a smart card conforming to a second format called micro-SIM format, characterized in that the adapter is composed of '' a removable and reversible part having two faces, the first, called full-SIM face, being practically smooth, the second, called micro-SIM face, having a slide and a stop, and in that the device is provided with a cavity serving as a receptacle for the adapter,

   cavity configured so that, when the adapter is placed in reading mode of a full-SIM format smart card, only its full-SIM face is visible and placed opposite the connector of the card reader chip, and when the adapter is placed in reading mode of a micro-SIM format smart card, only its micro-SIM face is visible, the cavity serving as receptacle for the adapter as well as the slide and the stop of the latter being arranged so that the terminals of the integrated circuit present on the micro-SIM card are placed opposite the connector of the smart card reader after insertion of said card.



   The invention tends to solve all these problems.



   To this end, the device is composed of a clamp which acts as reader and connector for at least one card, said reading clamp ensuring the connection, by a communication protocol, with the host.



   According to one embodiment, the electrical connection between said clamp acting as reader and connector between the smart card or cards and the host, is carried out by a cable with a communication protocol (USB, I2C, SPI, RS232, TO, T1 ...)
Or direct connection.



   According to another embodiment, the electrical connection between said clamp acting as reader and connector between the chip card or cards and the host, is made without contact by induction.



   The clamp can be provided with an electronic communication component to ensure communication between the module
PCMCIA and smart card.



   According to one embodiment, the clamp is equipped with two connectors for receiving two smart cards.



   Said clamp acts as a double reader and connector for two cards arranged back to back, each chip being in contact with one of the connector readers carried by a tab of the clamp.



   The clip which acts as a reader and connector between the smart card or cards and the host is equipped with a quick fixing means.



   The fixing means is a suction cup.



   The clamp according to the invention can be connected directly to a chip card reader of the PCMCIA or other type, so as to obtain a double, triple reader, etc.



   The clip has dimensions such that it leaves a large area of the smart card (s) clear so as to be able to identify means of identification specific to each card.



   The identification means can be a photograph, a digital recognition, an access badge, etc.



   The fingerprint recognition system is integrated into the clip, inserting the smart card into the clip, automatically puts the thumb (of the user) for example in contact with the sensor.



   The clamp is equipped with one or more stops which detect the presence of a smart card in said clamp.



   The attached drawings are given as indicative and non-limiting examples. They represent an embodiment according to the invention. They will allow the invention to be easily understood.



   FIG. 1 schematically represents the input of a PCMCIA type reader which is embedded in the host or the computer.



   Figure 2 is a schematic view of the clamp, plan view.



   FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the clamp, shown in FIG. 2.



   Figure 4 is a sectional view of another embodiment of the clamp where it is equipped with two connectors and two readers to receive two smart cards back to back.



   Figure 5 is a perspective view of the open clamp with a smart card in place.



   FIG. 6 is a view of the clamp connected by a connection socket in the PCMCIA module.



   Figure 7 is a schematic view of a computer with the clamp fixed by its method of attachment to the screen frame, the clamp highlighting the identification means of the card, the clamp is connected to a PCMCIA module , which is itself embedded in the host.



   Figure 8 is a view according to Figure 7, but where the clamp is directly connected to the host without using the PCMCIA module.



   Figure 9 is a schematic view of a clamp which is connected directly to a smart card reader of the type
PCMCIA or other.



   Currently, the user has his smart card reader type PCMCIA 1 which is embedded directly in the host, or in computer 2.



   All users are aware that inserting and removing a smart card from a reader is not easy.



   The device according to the invention is composed of a clamp 3 which acts as reader and connector for at least one smart card 4.



   Said clamp 3 ensures the connection by a communication protocol with the host 2.



   According to the embodiments represented in FIGS. 5, 6,7 and 8, the link 5 is produced by a cable 5 by a communication protocol (USE, I2C, SPI, RS232, TO, T1, ...)
Or direct connection.



   However, although this is not shown in the figures, the clamp 3, according to the invention, can be electrically connected with the PCMCIA type reader 1 or with the host or the computer 2, without contact, for example by induction.



   The clamp 3 is equipped with stops 6 and 7, said stops make it possible to maintain and position the smart card 4 in said clamp.



   According to one embodiment, these stops can also act as a detector of the presence of the smart card 4.



   According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, a detector 7 is positioned to detect the presence of the smart card 4.



   The clamp 3 is composed of two legs 8.9 articulated along an axis 10, the axis 10 being equipped with a return spring 11 (the spring can act as an axis).



   The legs 12 and 13 make it possible to operate said clamp, according to the principle of the lever, relative to the transverse axis 10.



   In the embodiment shown in Figure 4, the clamp 3 is equipped with two connectors, a connector 14 and a connector 15. Thus, the clamp 3 shown in Figure 4, can receive two smart cards, a smart card 16 and a smart card 17.



   In this embodiment, the two chip cards are positioned back to back, so that the chips of each card are in contact with the corresponding connectors, namely the connector 14 for the lug 8 of the clamp, the connector 15 for the tab 9 of said clamp.



   The clip shown in perspective in FIG. 5 highlights the chip 18 of the chip card 16 as well as the positioning of said card 16 in the clip 3.



   Figure 6 highlights the use of the clamp which is connected by a cable 5 to the PCMCIA type reader, or module
PCMCIA 19. It is connected to this PCMCIA module by a connection socket 20 of the clamp 3 in said PCMCIA module.



   FIG. 7 represents an embodiment according to FIG. 6, where the clamp 3, according to the invention, is connected by the cable 5 and the connection socket 20 via the PCMCIA module 19. This clamp 3, which makes reader and connector office, between the smart card or cards and the host 2, is equipped with a quick fixing means 21. In the figures, the quick fixing means 21 is a suction cup. As shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, this fixing means 21 makes it possible to set up the clamp 3, according to the invention, the latter has dimensions such that it leaves a large surface 23 of the card 16 clear so as to be able to highlight identification means 22, such as a photograph, digital recognition, access badge, etc.



   In the embodiment represented in FIG. 8, the same elements are found except that the clamp 3 is connected directly by a cable 24, or other means, a chip card reader of the PCMCIA 25 type, or other , and this in order to obtain a double, triple, ... reader
  

Claims

1. Connection device between at least one smart card (4), a smart card reader and the host (2), characterized in that it is composed of a clamp (3) which acts as reader and connector for at least one card (16), said reading clamp (3) ensuring the connection, by a communication protocol, with the host (2).
2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the electrical connection between said clamp (3) acting as reader and connector (14, 15) between the chip card (s) (16, 17) and the host (2), is carried out by a cable (5, 24) with a communication protocol (USB, I2C, SPI,
RS232, ...).
3. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the electrical connection between said clamp (3) acting as reader and connector between the chip card or cards
(16, 17) and the host (2), is carried out without contact by induction.
4. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the clamp (3) is provided with an electronic communication component to ensure communication between the module (19) PCMCIA and the smart card (16, 17).
5. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the clamp (3) is in direct connection with the PCMCIA module (19) and the smart card (16, 17).
6. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that that the clamp (3) is equipped with two connectors (14, 15) to receive two smart cards (16, 17).
7. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that said clamp (3) acts as a double reader and connector for two cards (16, 17), arranged back to back, each chip (18) being in contact with a connector readers carried by each tab (12, 13) of the clamp (3).
8. Device according to any one of claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 characterized in that the clamp (3) which acts as reader and connector between the chip card (s) ( 16, 17) and the host (2) is equipped with a quick fixing means (21).
9. Device according to claim 8, characterized in that the fixing means (21) is a suction cup.
10. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the clamp (3) is directly connected to a chip card reader of the PCMCIA type (25) or the like so as to obtain a double, triple reader.
11. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the clamp (3) has dimensions such that it leaves a large area (23) of the chip card or cards clear in order to be able to identify means of identification (22) specific to each card (4, 16 or 17).
12. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the identification means can be a photograph, digital recognition, an access badge, etc.
13. Device according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the clamp (3) is equipped with one or more stops (6, 7) which detect the presence of a smart card (4, 16 or 17) in said clamp (3).
