Abstract

The method of setting of foam ceramic filters in vertically parted casting moulds consists in placing of a filter in the setter seat, in which the filter is held by means of pressure below atmospheric. After moving the setter to a casting mould, the system of pressure below atmospheric is cut off and in the setter seat the overpressure system is turned on, which causes that a ceramic filter is set in the casting mould seat. The setter for setting foam ceramic filters in vertically parted casting moulds, has a seat (2) supporting a ceramic filter (8). The seat (2) is provided with holes (4) connected with the system of pressure below atmospheric (5) and holes (6) connected with the air overpressure system (7).

Description

THE METHOD AND THE SETTER FOR SETTING OF GATING SYSTEM ELEMENTS OF A CASTING MOULD.
The object of the invention is the method and the setter for setting of gating system elements especially foam ceramic filters in a vertically parted casting mould.
So far, because of the changeability of the admissible dimensional tolerances of foam ceramic filters and because of the lack of tapers at those filters, there was no possibility of correct and repeatable setting of the filters in a seat of vertically parted casting moulds, produced in automatic moulding lines.
No producer of automatic vertically parted moulding lines and no ceramic filters producer has a method eliminating the problem presented. Therefore it was, so far, not possible to produce responsible castings in vertically parted moulds, with production of metal requiring filtration in a mould.
The method according to the invention consists in setting a ceramic filter in the seat of a setter in which the filter is held by means of the system of pressure below atmospheric. After the setter is moved to a casting mould, the system of pressure below atmospheric is cut off. At the same time the system of air overpressure is turned on in the setter seat, which causes setting of a ceramic filter in the casting mould seat.
The essence of the setter according to the invention consists in that it has a seat supporting a ceramic filter. The seat is provided with holes connected with the system of pressure below atmospheric and the holes which connect with the air overpressure system.
It is advantageous if the seat of the setter has supporting protrusions and their width is not less than the maximum spacing of vertical outer tangents to the holes connected with the system of pressure below atmospheric.
The method according to the invention makes it possible to correctly set foam ceramic filters in vertically parted casting moulds, within an automatic cycle of a moulding line, which in turn allows to carry out filtration of liquid metal in such moulds. The exemplary method of setting of a filter in accordance with the invention is described below.
In a Disamatic moulding line, vertically parted, a foam ceramic filter is placed in a setter seat at which the system of pressure below atmospheric has earlier been turned on. The filter is held by means of the pressure below atmospheric of 0,05MPa, supplied from the system of pressure below atmospheric through three holes situated along a horizontal axis of the setter seat. Then in the automatic cycle of a moulding line moving of the setter to a casting mould takes place as well as cutting off of pressure below atmospheric. At the same time the system of air overpressure is turned on, from which through two holes situated on a vertical axis of the seat, overpressure of 0, 18MPa is supplied to the seat of the setter. Under the influence of the overpressure a foam ceramic filter is set in a casting mould seat.
The essence of the setter according to the invention is illustrated on the example of how it is made, presented in the drawing in which fig.1 shows the cross-section of the setter in plane I-I, and fig.2 shows the front view of the setter.
In housing 1 of the setter seat 2 is fixed, supporting a foam ceramic filter 8. Seat 2 has supporting protrusions 3 , the width of which is 0,027m. .Along the horizontal axis of seat 2 there are three holes 4 , connected with the system of pressure below atmospheric 5^ There are two holes 6 on the vertical axis of seat 2, connected with the air overpressure system 7.
