Abstract

The invention relates to nano-porous aluminium oxide membranes containing noble metal clusters or noble metal nanoparticles, which membranes were obtained by anodic oxidation and have a close pore radius distribution. Production takes place by coating the membranes with a colloidal solution of ligand-stabiliized noble metal nanoparticles or clusters, by drying and then burning them in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas. The aluminium oxide membranes have an average pore radius of 1-500nm with a standard deviation of the pore radius distribution of 0-20 %, preferably 0-10 %. The aluminium oxide membranes containing noble metal clusters or nanoparticles are used to particular advantage as catalysts during synthesis in the presence of vinyl acetate.
