Description

TITLE "A SLIDE APPARATUS"
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a slide apparatus.
SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is provided a slide apparatus comprising a pair of spaced longitudinally extending members, a carriage supported by and arranged to slide reciprocally between the longitudinally extending members, wherein the carriage comprises at least one longitudinally extending axially rotatable roller.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a plan view of a slide apparatus in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the slide apparatus of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the slide apparatus of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a lower plan view of the slide apparatus of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is an upper perspective view of the apparatus of Figure 1; Figure 6 is a lower perspective view of the apparatus of Figure 1;
Figure 7 is a long sectional view of the apparatus of Figure 1; and
Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view of the apparatus of Figure 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In Figures 1 to 8 of the accompanying drawings, there is shown a slide apparatus 10 including a pair of spaced, longitudinally extending side members 12 which are parallel to one another. The side members 12 are endwise interconnected by transversely extending end members 14. Depending from each of the side members 12 is a plurality of foot members 16.
Further, each side member 12 contains on an inner side 18 thereof at least one channel 20 and preferably two channels 20 disposed parallel to one another. The channels 20 extend from each end of the side members 12 as can be seen in Figures 5 and 6. Further, the channels 20 are generally c-shaped and have a relatively narrow longitudinally extending entrance.
Supported by the side members 12 is a carriage member 30. The carriage member 30 comprises a pair of spaced, longitudinal members 32 extending parallel to the side members 12. The longitudinal members 32 are endwise interconnected by a transverse member 34.
Further, on an outer side thereof each longitudinal member 32 is provided with at least one pair of spaced outwardly extending axles 36. A wheel member 38 is mounted on an end of each axle 36 remote from the member 32. Each wheel member 38 is located within a channel 20 in such a manner that the wheel member 38 cannot be removed from the channel 20 laterally thereof. As discussed above each side member 12 may contain a pair of channels 20. In this case the carriage has two pairs of axles 36 on each side thereof and a corresponding number of wheel members 38.
Still further, each transverse member 34 is provided with a stop member 40.
Disposed in the carriage 30 is a pair of spaced, parallel rollers 42. The rollers 42 are axially rotatable and are mounted to the transverse members 34 on stub axles 44. The rollers 42 extend parallel to the longitudinal members 32.
In use, the slide apparatus 10 is used to support and move heavy objects particularly tyred wheels of large machines such as tractors. The wheel is mounted with the air circumferential surface of the tyre supported by the rollers 42. The wheel may then be moved reciprocally on the slide member 30 to the extent permitted by the side members 12. Further, the wheel can be rotated on the rollers 42 to enable mounting apertures to be aligned with studs on the vehicle. In this way the wheel and tyre can be moved reciprocally and also rotated readily to place them in a desired position with relatively small manual effort.
Modifications and variations as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention.
