Description

The present invention relates to a hanger for exhaust pipe of a motor vehicle, comprising an upper frame suitable for being secured to the vehicle body and a lower frame suitable for being secured to an exhaust pipe generally extending in the longitudinal direction X of the vehicle, these two reinforcements being connected to each other by an elastic system.
Considérant la direction longitudinale X précitée, la direction transversale Y et la direction verticale Z, constituant les trois axes d'un système de référence orthonormé, ces suspentes doivent assurer la suspension fiable de la tubulure d'échappement à la caisse du véhicule avec limitation des débattements dans les directions Z et éventuellement Y. Pour limiter la transmission des vibra- tions entre la tubulure d ' échappement et la caisse du véhicule, les caractéristiques d'élasticité et d'amortissement de la suspente devront en outre assurer :Considering the above-mentioned longitudinal direction X, the transverse direction Y and the vertical direction Z, constituting the three axes of an orthonormal reference system, these lines must ensure the reliable suspension of the exhaust manifold to the vehicle body with limitation of travel in the Z and possibly Y directions. To limit the transmission of vibrations between the exhaust manifold and the vehicle body, the elasticity and damping characteristics of the hanger must also ensure:
- une grande souplesse de la suspente dans la direction Z, même sous précharge statique, avec un bon amortissement des vibrations et la rigidification la plus faible possible sous l'effet d'une augmentation de la fréquence de ces vibrations, ceci impliquant le rejet des modes propres à des fréquences élevées, supérieures à 400 Hz; - une faible raideur également dans la direction X pour encaisser les dilatations de la tubulure sans contraintes excessives ; et- great flexibility of the hanger in the Z direction, even under static preload, with good vibration damping and the lowest possible stiffening under the effect of an increase in the frequency of these vibrations, this implies rejection of modes specific to high frequencies, greater than 400 Hz; - a low stiffness also in the direction X to absorb the expansions of the tubing without excessive stresses; and
Overall, the lines currently known meet one or more of these criteria but not all, and in particular do not allow rejection proper modes at sufficiently high frequencies.
The purpose of the present invention is to solve this problem, and for this purpose a hanger for exhaust manifold according to the present invention is characterized in that said elastic system comprises a spider of solid elastic material shaped and oriented so that its straight cross section through a transverse plane perpendicular to said longitudinal direction X generally has the shape of a Saint Andrew's cross, the ends of the four branches of which are subject, for two of them to said upper frame, for the other two to said lower frame, said spider being surrounded by at least one flexible ring resistant to traction, limiting its deformations. It was noticed that this form of spider made it possible to obtain a great stability of the elasticity characteristics of the hanger for large variations of the vibration frequencies, which means a rejection of the eigen modes towards the high frequencies. We also obtain the desired stiffness and damping in the Y and Z directions and also the low stiffness in X, which allows the hanger to properly absorb the thermal expansion of the tubing.
The flexible ring, according to its arrangement and its orientation, may limit the deflections only in the direction Z in the descending direction, in which case it will extend in the plane of said spider, or in the directions Z and Y in one or two directions (to the left and / or to the right in transverse direction), in which case it may extend in a plane perpendicular to that of said cross, by surrounding two opposite branches thereof.
For limiting the displacements of the exhaust pipe both in the two directions of the transverse direction, it is possible to use two flexible rings each extending around two opposite branches of the spider, in planes both practically perpendicular between them and perpendicular to the plane of the cross.
Des modes d'exécution de l'invention sont décrits ci-dessous à titre d'exemples nullement limitatifs avec référence aux figures du dessin ci-annexé dans lequel :Embodiments of the invention are described below by way of non-limiting examples with reference to the figures of the attached drawing in which:

- la figure 6 est la vue de profil correspondante ;- Figure 6 is the corresponding side view;
- la figure 7 est un diagramme montrant comparativement la raideur des suspentes connues et la raideur de suspentes conformes à 1 ' invention ;- Figure 7 is a diagram showing comparatively the stiffness of known lines and the stiffness of lines according to one invention;
Cet anneau souple permet donc de limiter les débattements de la tubulure 2 vers le bas, dans la direction Z, mais autorise une grande amplitude des débattements horizon- taux dans la direction Y. Il autorise aussi les débattements en direction X, le croisillon 3 fléchissant alors pour suivre les dilatations de la tubulure 2 sous l'effet de la chaleur, comme visible sur la figure 2a.- Figure 9 is a top view of the variant of Figure 8, according to the arrows F. In the various figures, the orientation of the hanger in space has been identified by the representation three axes perpendicular to each other: Z for the vertical direction, Y for the horizontal and transverse direction and X for the horizontal and axial direction (along the vehicle axis). The reference 1 designates the body of the vehicle, 2 its exhaust pipe, 3 the cross in massive elastic material, with damping characteristics, this cross having the shape of a cross of Saint Andrew, shape which appears in the views according to the direction X. In all the embodiments, the upper frame is constituted by a stirrup 4 which can be screwed at 5 to the body 1 and having a flat bottom 6 terminated by two ends 7 folded downwards, serving for the adhesion of the ends of the two corresponding branches 3a and 3b of the cross 3; the lower frame consists of a flat iron 8 having in cross section a similar trough shape and on the folded ends 9 of which the ends of the two other corresponding branches 3'a and 3'b of the crosspiece 3 can be adhered In the embodiments of Figures 1 to 4, the spider 3 is surrounded by a single flexible ring resistant to traction. In the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2 this ring, referenced 10, extends in the plane of the spider 3; it is therefore in a vertical and transverse plane relative to the vehicle. It rests on the ends of the branches of the spider by the intermediary of the frames 6 and 8. This flexible ring therefore makes it possible to limit the deflections of the tube 2 downwards, in the direction Z, but allows a large amplitude of the horizontal deflections - rate in direction Y. It also allows deflections in direction X, the cross-member 3 then bending to follow the expansions of the tube 2 under the effect of heat, as visible in FIG. 2a.
In the embodiment of Figures 3 and 4, the flexible ring has been referenced 11 and extends in a plane perpendicular to that of the spider 3, located at 45 ° from the plane vertical passing through the axis of the spider. This ring therefore surrounds two opposite branches 3b, 3'b of the spider, by means of the corresponding folded ends 7 and 9 of the frames 4 and 8. This ring 11 is therefore specially intended to limit the deflections of the pipe 2 vertically towards the bottom and horizontally to the left in Figure 3, but with greater freedom of horizontal movement to the right. To limit the deflections in this direction also, one can use the symmetrical arrangement on the same tubing, or use the arrangement of Figures 5 and 6, with two flexible rings 12a, 12b perpendicular to each other at the same time as perpendicular to the plane of the cross 3 One of these rings surrounds the branches 3a, 3'a, the other the branches 3b, 3'b, this again by means of the ends of the frames 4 and 8. The deflections of the tube 2 are thus limited to the left and to the right in the Y direction, at the same time limiting the deflections downwards.
The flexible rings can be made of any suitable deformable material, as long as it can have sufficient tensile strength: glass fibers impregnated with epoxy resin or the like can be used, for example.
In addition to the advantages which already emerge from the above, the invention makes it possible to obtain great flexibility in the choice of the elastic characteristics of the hanger, from the same component elements. One can also obtain an adjustable beating effect, to extend in a way the low rigidity in frequency of the hanger, as can be seen in FIG. 7, the adjustment being effected by determining the weight of the ring or rings. In Figure 7 is shown in solid lines the stiffness (in N / mm) of a hanger according to the invention, depending on the frequency of the vibrations of the tubing (in Hz); in dashed lines the same kind of response has been shown for a known hanger. We see that for the latter the stiffness increases considerably from 420 Hz while at this frequency the stiffness of a hanger according to the invention is still very low.
In FIGS. 8 and 9 a variant with a single ring 11a has been shown, making it possible to obtain a limitation of the deformations of the cross-member 3 in compression under the effect of forces in the direction Z. For this purpose, the upper reinforcement 4a is folded in V so as to match the upper hollow of the cross 3, and the lower frame 8a is subject to the exhaust pipe 2 by means of a screw 13 with a specific head 13a, suitable for serving as a support for the hollow lower cross 3.
