Abstract

This invention relates to a process of enhancing plant growth. Growth is enhanced by selecting a plant having at least one heterologous DNA construct with at least one heterologous gene encoding for at least one of carbonic anhydrase, calcium binding protein, metal binding protein or biomineralization protein, and a plant promoter operatively located upstream of the heterologous gene, and growing the plant in a growth medium. The heterologous gene can be an animal gene of mammalian origin. This invention also relates to a plant comprising the above-mentioned heterologous DNA construct and plant promoter operatively located upstream of the heterologous gene. This invention still further relates to the seeds obtained from these above-mentioned plants.
