Abstract

A laminated high gradient insulator (HGI) structure (28) provides an insulator in an acceleration gap (26) of induction cavities (12) of high power beam accelerators (10) or amplification cavities (12) of microwave devices (10). The HGI structure (28) comprises a hollow cylinder composed of multiple thin annular layers of dielectric material with thin conductive layers therebetween. The HGI structure provides a frequency selective transverse beam-cavity interaction impedance that may be used to inhibit unwanted oscillations in the induction or amplification cavities.
