Abstract

The invention relates to a process of electric contact hardfacing intended for use in various branches of the machine-tooling industry to hard-face or reinforce machine parts. The process consists in distorting the filler rod and the surface layer of the metal, while a modulated welding current is fed through the section to be welded. In order to prevent temperature build-up in the welding area at high heating rates, a cooling medium such as water is supplied. This technique enables items to be manufactured free of cracks, even in the case of metals such as iron and high-tensile steel which could not previously be hard-faced by processes of this type.
