Description

Temporary Folding Dwelling/Workshop
The object of the invention is a temporary folding dwelling/workshop, which is preferably intended to be used on building sites as a dwelling-place, a workshop or an office. It is also meant to be used as a temporary dwelling-place, surgery, sanitary object or workshop in emergency situations such as natural disasters and other catastrophes, wars etc.
The technical problem solved by the invention is how to design a temporary folding dwelling/workshop, which would be collapsible as a whole, which, when necessary, could be built up without the need for any tools, additional joining means and practice and only by using common knowledge by which one can after a short observation recognize the steps and the method of erection, whereat the folding object could be put up on any levelled or just trodden-down ground without any need for special reinforcements and it could include electrical and water installations that would not necessarily have to be arranged at the time of folding.
Such known temporary folding dwellings/workshops are made of different plates like floor plates, wall plates and roof plates. These plates are put together to form an object by known detachable means, preferably screws. The wall plates already contain windows and doors, sometimes also electrical installations.
In addition to the above-mentioned plates some known objects also use profiles for flat and angle connections.
When these temporary objects are not used, they are folded and are transported by trucks and even carried to the sites where they are to be used.
A drawback of these known temporary folding dwellings/workshops is that they require a previous knowledge or a mental image of the folded object i.e. an exact knowledge of the position and of the mutual arrangement of the plates and of the joining means as well as tools and skillfulness acquired by practice. As already mentioned above, one can assume that such objects will be especially used in emergency situations such as natural disasters and wars, which means that they will be built up by persons seeing them for the first time. These persons will not possess any previous knowledge and practice und will be under the additional stress of having to work fast as well as stressed by the situation itself. It is also expected and foreseen that these objects will have to be quickly and frequenty folded and displaced, then stored again and prepared for immediate reuse.
At repeated use on building sites one can expect rough and inattentive handling and folding, frequent transportation and the need for different interior furnishings or different functions.
Since these objects are transported from the storerooms to the place of use in several steps e.g. by trucks, by carrying and by frequent quick displacements due to necessity, some parts, especially joining elements, can be expected to be lost and mechanical deformities can occur. In the above-described circumstances the life of the objects is short and the maximum number of foldings and unfoldings of such objects is relatively low. It is very likely that the objects will be damaged and that it will not be possible to fold them at the intended site.
The described technical problem is solved by the invention in that on edges of a rigid and self-supported ground element wall plates are turnably arranged by known hinges. The edges of the ground element are gradedly raised for one or two thicknesses of wall plates, whereby a mutual parallel abutment of wall plates turned on the ground element one to another is assured in the folded state of the object. The walls are joined and on the joins a seal, preferaby a rubber band is placed. The walls are connected by known bolts, pins or similar connecting means.
A further novelty of the invention is an upper plate (roof), which is made as a flat and rigid plate, on whose periphery on the side of the walls a groove is arranged, which has the outline of the plan view of the walls and a cross section equal to the thickness of the walls. Thus the roof lies on the walls so that the latter are inserted in the groove, whereby watertightness is assured. For special demands also airtightness is possible by means of additional known seals. The roof lies on the walls only by its weight.
In the walls doors and windows are arranged in a known manner and, if necessary, they also contain necessary electrical and water installations.
In the folded state of the object, the roof is placed on the walls folded on the ground element. The connecting means in the walls such as lever bolts and pins are arranged un- detachably and without any need for tools to connect them.
The edge profiles of the ground element are hollow. Their different heights which are necessary for the folding of the wall plates are used so that the electrical and/or water instalations arranged inside these profiles can, over connectors, directly enter the interior of the folded object next to the floor without any special attention being paid to them at the folding of the object. On the outside of the profiles containing instalations supply connecting elements are arranged.
The preferred size and weight of the object according to the invention are such that it can be transported by usual trucks, helicopters etc., it can be also carried by six to eight persons on any kind of the ground. In the storeroom and at transportation the object should be as small as possible.
The characteristic features and the novelty of the invention are described in more detail on the basis of an example of embodiment shown in the enclosed drawings, in which
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the object in the state of use;
Fig. 2 is the same in folded state and in longitudinal section;
Fig.3 is the same in folded state and in transverse section;
Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the connecting element joining the ground element and the front wall; Fig. 5 is a cross-section of the connecting element joining the ground element and the rear wall; Fig. 6 is a cross-section of the connecting element joining the ground element and the side walls; Fig. 7 is a cross-section of the connection between any wall and the roof plate.
The temporary folding dwelling/workshop is designed as a self-supporting ground element 1, which is composed of a plate 2 and of edge profiles 3, 4, 5, 6 being differently raised on the upper i.e. treading side of the plate 2, namely for one or two thicknesses of walls 7, 8 and 9 with these walls being arranged turnably inwards toward the element 1 on the upper edges 10 of the profiles 3, 4, 5 and 6. On one profile 3 of the ground element 1 the adjacent wall 7 is arranged on the edge 10 lying in the level of plate 2, the opposite profile 4 is raised for the thickness of the walls 7, 8 and 9 and on its edge 10 the wall 8 is arranged turnably as well. The remaining profiles 5 and 6 ot the ground element 1 are raised tor two thicknesses ot the walls 7, 8, 9 and on their edges 10 two walls 9 are placed, whose joint height is preferably smaller than the length of the plate 2. On the side edges ot the walls 7, 8, 9 known connecting elements 11 are mounted tor their mutual decomposable connection. On the joins between the walls 7, 8 and 9 known gaskets 12 such as elastic rubber ribbons are placed.
In the walls 7, 8, 9 windows 13 and doors 14 are carried out in a known way and in an optional layout.
The roof is designed as a plate 15, whose outline is equal to or larger than that ot the ground element 1, and on its side adjacent to the walls 7, 8, 9 a groove 16 is arranged, whose outline is equal to the outline of the joined walls 7, 8, 9. The groove 16 has a rectangular cross-section of a width that is equal to or just a little larger than the thickness of the walls 7, 8, 9.
In the tolded state of the object, the roof plate 15 is placed on the folded walls 7, 8, 9.
It the height of the walls 9 is greater than the length of the ground plate 2, the profiles 5 and 6 of the ground element 1 are of different heights and these walls are tolded on the ground plate 2 on different levels. In this case the heights ot the remaining profiles 3 and 4 ot the ground element 1 correspond to each other so that suitable folding is assured.
Connecting elements 17 between the profiles 3 to 6 and the walls 7 to 9 are known e.g. hinges or bolts.
The ground, wall and roof plates are preferably designed as rigid frames tilled with temperature insulating materials and on both surfaces they are protected by mechanically and corrosion-resistant layers.
A preterred embodiment ot the invention is designed in the dimensions ot a standard container, which is suitable to be transported by trucks and trains, can also be transported over shorter distances by six to eight persons on any kind ot ground and can be built up in less than 10 minutes without any previous practice and tools
