Definitions

  • the present invention concerns an insect trap for catching flying insects, such as Ips Typographus, according to the introductory part of Claim 1.
  • Feronomes are scented matter which attract the insects to be caught, by being situated inside a trap. This nethod is known, for example, from NO-patents 142 602 and 152 071.
  • NO-patent 151 768 discloses a trap which comprises a number of funnel-shaped elements that are suspended from one another in mounted position by means of bars holding a lower funnel-element in the upper funnel-element. In this trap, insects approaching the trap will fall down through the funnel-shaped elements.
  • This known insect trap has a comparatively complicated construction, and thus is expensive in manufacturing and sale. Furthermore, the trap can easily be subjected to damage during transport and mounting, because the bars can easily break or be misshaped.
  • FIG. 1 shows a schematic drawing of an insect trap according to present invention, viewed from one side and with non- visible lines shown in dotted detail,
  • Fig. 2 shows the funnel-unit from Fig. 1, viewed from one side
  • Fig. 3 shows the spacing element from Fig. 1, viewed from one side
  • Fig. 4 shows the spacing element from Fig. 1, viewed from below, and Fig. 5 shows the collection unit from Fig. 1.
  • Fig. 1 illustrates shown an insect trap 1 according to the present invention.
  • the insect trap 1 comprises a number of funnel-shaped units 2, a corresponding number of spacing elements 3, a carrying rod 4, a hat 5, and a collection unit 6.
  • the carrying rod 4 is a straight rod made from a round or profiled tube, such as a triangular tube or a square tube.
  • the collection unit 6, the spacing elements 3 and the hat 5 have a central opening corresponding to the profile of the carrying rod 4.
  • the carrying rod 4 has a circular profile.
  • the lower end of carrying rod 4 can be adapted to form a spike (or earth rod) and thereby fasten the rod in the ground.
  • the rod can be fastened in other ways which will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
  • the funnel unit 2 is shown in more detail by Fig. 2. It comprises, from the top, a first tapered section 7 converging in a second tapered section 8.
  • the second tapered section 8 forms an angle with the central axis, which is more acute than the angle that the first tapered section forms with the central axis.
  • the funnel unit 2 has an upper opening 9 and a lower opening 10, and has an inner shape corresponding to the outer shape.
  • Fig. 3 and 4 show the spacing element 3 in futher detail.
  • the spacing element 3 is formed from a number of vanes 11, preferably three, having a similar length. At the termination of the vanes 11, distal from the centre, they have a tapered edge corres- ponding to the inner tapering of the first section 7 of the funnel unit 2.
  • the vanes 11 extend from a central opening 13 having an inner profile 7 corresponding to the outer profile of the carrying rod 4.
  • the collection unit 6 is shown in more detail by Fig. 5. It is formed by a substantially deformed unit 14, equipped with a lockable discharge opening 15 in the side wall, near the bottom. A longitudinal opening 16 is situated in the centre of the collection unit 6, so that it can be treaded onto the carrying rod 4.
  • the carrying rod 4 With the not shown earth rod, is situated in the ground.
  • the collection unit 6 is then treaded onto the carrying rod A until it is at the desired height.
  • the collection unit 6 is preferably fastened with a stop (not shown), or is held in place by the friction against the rod 4.
  • the lowermost funnel unit 2 is treaded onto the rod 4, until it rests with its lower opening 10 within the collection unit 6. Thereafter a spacing unit 3 is treaded onto the rod until it rests against the inner of the funnel unit 2. Then the lowermost funnel unit 2 is centered on the rod 4. The spacing unit 3 also forms a basis for the next funnel unit 2 which is then treaded onto the carrying rod 4.
  • the number of funnel units 2 and corresponding spacing units 3 that are treaded onto the rod can of course be varied, depending on the local conditions and dimensions and material that is chosen for each component.
  • On the top of the insect trap 1 is mounted the hat 5, so that rain, leaves, etc. do not obstruct the function of the trap. When an insect, such as Ips Typographus, flies into the trap, it will collide with the outer wall of one of the funnel units 2. Then it will fall down to the inner wall of the next funnel unit 2, and down to the collection unit.
