Description

METHOD FOR PURIFICATION OF PETROLEUM AND PETROLEUM PRODUCTS FROM SULFUR COMPOUNDS
The present invention relates to the petroleum industry. More particularly, it relates to a method for purification of petroleum and petroleum products from sulfur compounds. Sulfur compounds presented in the petroleum and petroleum products are characterized with the corrosion properties; they damage the oil-pipe-lines, the distillation and other apparatuses. Petroleum used in an internal combustion engine damages the members thereof. Sulfur oxides which are produced in the combustion products cause environmental pollution.
Content of sulfur compounds in fuel and lubricants 13 limited by relevant standards.
Known methods for the purification of petroleum and petroleum products comprising the oxidation of petroleum and petroleum products using the catalysts m the present of a base.
The process may be carried out by means of petroleum with the temperature 50-60° which is preliminary treated with an aqueous solutiun of 1% concentration sodium hydroxide. Petroleum without the hydrogen sulfide is contacted with the catalyst an oxidation using the oxigen of the air 13 carried out.
A process of earring out above mentioned reactions requires special processing using the expensive catalysts (1) with high energy loss.
Purification of petroleum and petroleum products from sulfur compounds is carried out also by hydrogenation, wherein sulfur compounds are contacted with the molecular hydrogen in the presence of catalysts at a temperature within the range of from about 380°C to about 420°C, at a pressure within the range of from 20 to about 70 atm (2-7 Mpa) . Sulfur compounds (mercaptans, sulfides, polysulfides, thiophenes, thiophanes etc.) are reacted to form suitible hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide respectivelly.
The said process is complicated and cause deterioration of ecological conditions (2) . Technical result of the invention is in simplifying the technological process in increasing its effeciency, in improving the quality of the final product and the ecological conditions.
The essence of the invention is in that the process of purification from sulfur compounds is carried out by means of hydrogen and oxygen obtained from the electrolysis of water. A process is carried out in the electrolyzer, where the petroleum products are placed on the surface of water.
According to the present invention the hydrogen and oxygen ions obtained by the electrolysis of water are reacted with the layers of petroleum products and sulfur compounds to form suitable hydrocarbons.
The process of desulfurization is useful for purification not only for petroleum products, but may also be used for purification of various organic solvents and products obtained by coking coal. According to the method of the present invention the process is carried out in the electrolyzer (1) which is provided with the stainless steel electrodes (XI8H10T) (2). Power is fed to this electrodes from rectifier BCA-5 type (3) . The electrolyzer comprises pipes (4, 5, 6) with the taps. The water (7) and petroleum products (8) are introduced in the electrolyzer by the pipe (4). Electrodes are powered with the direct current. The water and petroleum products are passing through the electrolyzer via the pipe (9) .
The electrolysis is operated under the following regime:
Power I - 2, 5 a Voltage V - 10 v
Duration of electrolysis - 10 : 60 rain. Area of electrodes - 480 cm2.
The results of the experiment are presented in table 1:
Figure imgf000005_0001
The samples are taken from the layer of fuel in each 10 lb minutes sample interval. Determination of sulfur compound in the petroleum products is carried out by the standard (Soviet
Standard GOST 19121-73) .
For experimental analysis there are used the following materials: benzine, trade name AU-93 (GOST 2084-77), diesel 20 engine fuel (GOST 4749-73) and distillates of benzine (45 - 190°C) and diesel fuel (190 - 360°C) obtained by distillation of Rustavi deposit (GE) benzine.
The process velocity is presented by the general formula:
25 V = f [m,∑S,V,I,t,∑(H-,0--) fTιT2]
wherein m - amount of petroleum;
∑S - total amount of sulfur compound in the petroleum;
30 V - voltage; I - watts power; t - duration of process;
∑(H',0")- amount of released hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis of water;
35 Υι - water temperature;
T2 - benzine temperature. The method is illustrated by the following example. An experiment is carried out using the electrolyzer. The water and petroleum product by the pipe (4) is poured into electrolyzer with the equivalent amount (one liter) . Electrodes are powered with the direct current I = 2,5 a, V = 10 v. An experiment is continuing for an hour. The water and petroleum products are passing through the electrolyzer via the pipe (9) .
Thus, the method of the present invention simplifyied the technological process and improved the degree of purification of final product from sulfur compounds.
