Definitions

  • the present invention relates to compressing devices and in particular to a hand operated compressing device of universal type for compressing of packing waste and similar, in particular in connection with pre-separation at source, in collection receptacles of different types and size.
  • the receivers of recyclable waste such as metal, plastic and paper pay for this waste.
  • One condition to be able to establish a recycling is that the payment received from the receivers covers the handling costs for recyclable waste and preferably gives a profit for covering handling costs for the non-recyclable waste.
  • the waste handling must be as efficient and simple as possible, preferably one should in connection with pre-separation at source as far as possible be able to use already existing collection or waste receptacles, transport vehicles and the like and investing the rninimum amount in additional equipment.
  • a considerable step of this is to compress the waste in as large extent as possible in existing receptacles before transport to the receivers.
  • longer intervals between the collections than now applied are possible, and every delivery contains such large amount or weight of the respective materials that the payment for this, in connection with recyclable waste, more than enough covers the handling costs.
  • waste which may be compressed by hand operated compressing devices. Insulation materials, plastics in different forms and similar materials may then be involved.
  • the receptacles for pre-separation at source are put up in refuse rooms, where the pre-separated waste is put in the respective waste receptacle.
  • the receptacles for paper and plastics are filled very rapidly, however, they should be able to contain much more material if this would be compressible, which could give the above mentioned economical advantages.
  • Such compressing devices should not be expensive and complicated, but have to be efficient and cheap and also easy to use.
  • the purpose of the present invention is to set aside the above mentioned problems and fulfil the mentioned desires. This is accomplished by a compressing device ofthe kind stated in the claims, by which also the characterising features ofthe invention are concluded.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a compressing device according to the invention in raised position, as seen from the operating side,
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a compressing device according to the invention in lowered position, as seen from the attachment side and without compressing basket,
  • Fig.3 is a perspective view of a compressing basket included in the compressing device according to the invention.
  • FIG. 4 is a partially cut and broken away side view of a, at a wall fixed, compressing device according to the invention.
  • a compressing device 1 as shown in the figures comprises a wall attachment 2, at which both a plane 3 and an operating handle 4 are turnably attached.
  • a link transfer 5 is inserted between the operating handle 4 and the plane 3, so that, when turning the operating handle 4, the plane 3 is turned simultaneously.
  • a compressing piston 6 formed as a basket is releasable attached.
  • a number of compressing devices 1 may be mounted, as shown in fig. 4, at one or more ofthe walls ofthe refuse room.
  • the compressing device 1 according to the invention as well can be carried by e.g. a support standing on the floor or by other suitable constructions.
  • each compressing device 1 a conventional, exchangeable waste receptacle of any size is to be placed, whereby each waste receptacle is intended for one particular kind of waste, such as domestic refuse, paper, plastics and so on.
  • the attached compressing device 1 is raised, as shown in fig. 1.
  • the operating handle 4 is lowered.
  • the plane 3 is with this lowered towards the receptacle and the compressing piston 6 is pushed down in the receptacle and presses the waste downwards in the same.
  • the compressing device 1 is left in this lowered position until a new filling is to be performed, when the operating handle 4 is turned up to the position in fig.
  • waste is filled into the waste receptacle and the operating handle 4 thereafter once again is lowered.
  • the compressing device 1 By leaving the compressing device 1 in compressing position, the waste is exposed to a continuous pressure, which results in that the waste after a while stays in the compressed condition and is not resilient.
  • a link transfer 5 is attached to each side of the plane 3 and it have such a design that the force from t e operating handle 4 is amplified at the plane 3 when lowering the operating handle 4.
  • the plane 3 is rectangular and is normally extended corresponding to the opening of the largest waste receptacle, which exists in normal handling of domestic refuse.
  • the extension ofthe plane 3 is not critical and its primary purpose is to constitute an attachment for a compressing piston 6 and to transfer the force from the operating handle 4 to it.
  • the waste receptacles may then have different heights, which makes it necessary to put up or in any other way mount the compressing devices 1 at such a height over the floor that each likewise ordinary sized waste receptacle for domestic refuse has room under those.
  • a suitable compressing piston 6 has to be used for the compressing device to work at all these existing styles of waste receptacles.
  • Such a compressing piston 6 is evident from fig. 1 and 3, which is attached at the plane 3 and which is adjusted to without problems be able to be conveyed tlirough the opening of the waste receptacle and permeate through a distance in respective waste receptacle when lowering the operation handle 4.
  • the compressing pistons 6 shown in the fig. 1, 3 and 4 are made by a simple basket of wire netting, but it may be constituted in different ways, e.g. by sheet formed materials, moulded in plastics or the like.
  • the advantage of an exchangeable compressing piston is that it can be selected for each individual desires.
  • a compressing piston 6 is shown, which is relatively high and which thus reach down in a lower waste receptacle, alternatively achieves a more powerful compressing in the waste receptacle.
  • These compressing pistons 6 may have different sizes and shape and are easily exchangeable. Each user of compressing devices of the kind in question may obtain compressing pistons 6, which are suitable for precisely those waste receptacles, which are appropriate for him.
  • the compressing piston 6 in fig. 3 is provided with four resilient hooks 7, two at each bar 8, one at each side ofthe compressing piston 6. Receptacle mounting of a compressing piston 6 on a plane 3, the piston is placed against this and is brought a distance along this for the hooks 7 to grip under any ofthe net wires comprise in the plane 3.
  • the compressing piston 6 in question is wedge shaped. The advantage with this shape is that the higher side should be placed at the front edge ofthe refuse receptacle during compressing. A compressing force is then directed away from the front edge ofthe waste receptacle in a direction downwards-backwards. Since the majority of the refuse is filled at the front edge of the receptacle, such filling is facilitated since the refuse at each compressing is pushed away there.
  • the height ofthe compressing pistons 6 may be adjusted to differently high waste receptacles and for different compression effect.
  • differently sized compressing pistons may be used. It is always easy to shift compressing piston 6 according to each requirement, and such are of relatively low cost.
  • the compressing device 1 according to the present invention may also be used in connection with larger reception receptacles, so called containers.
  • a compressing device 1 according to the invention may be placed at the position of the hatch.
  • compressing may occur inside the container.
  • the compressing device 1 then operates simultaneously as a hatch, which is opened at the introduction of material in the container and which during the subsequent closing compresses the material in this.
  • the object of achieving a flexible, simple and cheap compressing device for use preferably with handling of domestic refuse, in particular in connection with pre-separation at source ofthe same has thus been fulfilled.
  • the compressing so easily and simply performed by this type of compressing device, an efficient waste handling is achieved, which may become economically profitable or which in any case drastically can reduce the waste handling expenses.
  • each waste receptacle can be filled to a greater extent than when no compressing is performed and by this the time intervals between the collections may increase and thus reduce the transport expenses.
