Abstract

A machine for bringing the rotational speed of the aircraft tires up to the landing ground speed of the aircraft, thereby eliminating the shock and sudden acceleration of the normally stationary tires upon contact with the runway, that causes undue wear on the tires and the deposition of rubber wastes on the runway.

Description

AIRCRAFT TIRE SPINNER
The present invention relates to an improvement to aircraft landing gear with the object of saving the aircraft tires from undue wear and keeping the runway free of rubber wastes from the tires.
Aircraft tires up till now have suffered severe wear due to having to accelerate from stationary up to the landing ground speed of the aircraft instantaneously upon contacting the runway, thereby causing the rubber of the tires to be burned off and be deposited on the runway.
The invention is a machine for spinning the normally stationary tires of the aircraft landing gear up to the landing ground speed of the aircraft just prior to landing, thereby eliminating the tire's sudden acceleration upon contact with the runway and the resultant rubber loss from the tires and the deposits of rubber on the runway.
THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
The invention is a machine to spin the landing gear tires of the aircraft just prior to landing in order to bring the tires up to the same rotational speed (realative to the circumference of the tire) as the landing ground speed of the aircraft, comprising:

Claims

1. A means of rotation of the landing gear tires directly or via their wheels, brake drums, rotors, or wheel shafts by a source of rotational power, an electronic motor, an electric motor, a hydraulic motor, or a compressed air motor.
2. A means of speed control of the source of rotational power to the tires to match the speed of the landing gear tires to the landing ground speed of the aircraft relative to the circumference (sire) of the tires, either manually, or automatically via connection to the ground speed indicator in the aircraft.
3. A means of turning on the source of rotational power to the landing gear tires just prior to the landing of the aircraft and turning off the source of rotational power to the landing gear tires just after the tires contact with the runway upon the landing of the aircraft, a switch either manually or automatically activated.
