Abstract
A filter sleeve for use in a filtering apparatus having a filter plate (2) with one or more openings (4) from which one or more such filter sleeves (6) may extend. The filter sleeve (6) comprises an open ended sleeve member (12) to which a base member (14) is permanently secured by ultra-sonic or other thermoplastic welding techniques.
Claims
1 . A filter sleeve for use in a filtering apparatus having a filter plate with one or more openings from which one or more such filter sleeves may extend, said filter sleeve comprising a sleeve member and a base member, said base member being secured by a permanent bond to an open end of
said sleeve member.
2. A filter sleeve as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the base member is constructed from a synthetic material.
3. A filter sleeve as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the base member is secured to the sleeve member by an ultra-sonic welding or thermoplastic welding technique.
4. A filter sleeve as claimed in claim 1 , claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the base member comprises a rigid or semi-rigid material.
5. A filter sleeve as claimed in claim 1 , claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the base member comprises a flexible material.
6. A filter sleeve as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the base member extends partially or wholly beyond the end of the sleeve member.
7. A filter sleeve as claimed in any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the base member is provided within the sleeve member at one end thereof.
8. A filter apparatus comprising a filter plate and one or more filter sleeves as claimed in any preceding claim.
9. A filter apparatus as claimed in claim 8, wherein each filter sleeve is supported by a frame, the frame having an open end which rests on the base

A method of making a filter sleeve for use in a filtering apparatus having a filter plate with one or more openings from which one or more filter sleeves may extend, said method comprising the steps of forming a sleeve from a length of material, two opposing edges of which are secured together to form a sleeve and permanently bonding a base member to an open end of the sleeve member wherein the base is secured to the sleeve in substantially
the same production step as the formation of the sleeve.
