Abstract

Device for at least partially excluding sunlight incident in an automobile, wherein the device comprises a cover-like member of air permeable gauze or cloth at least partially excluding sunlight, wherein a first part (2) of the cover-like gauze covers the inside of a window of an automobile, a second part (3) thereof covers the outside of a side window of an automobile, and connecting parts (4, 5, 6) thereof can be arranged round one or more outer edges of a frame of the window, characterized in that the gauze or cloth is substantially non-stretch and the dimensions of the cover-like member are precisely adapted to the shape of a particular type of automobile such that the cover-like member is sufficiently secured by means of the connecting parts when the door is closed.

Description

DEVICE FOR SON PROTECTION IN A VEHICLE
During the summer holiday period it is still common to see towels jammed between a movable side window of an automobile and the upper jamb thereof in order to exclude incident sunlight. Since the towel is then situated on the inside it becomes warm, which causes the temperature in the automobile to rise. Many types of sun screen are also known which, however, all have the drawback that a movable window cannot be opened, while the sun screens are likewise heated by the incident sunlight as the sun screen is situated on the inside of the window.
The present invention relates to a device for at least partially excluding sunlight incident in an automobile, wherein the device comprises a cover-like member of air permeable gauze or cloth at least partially excluding sunlight, wherein a first part of the cover¬ like gauze covers the inside of a window of an automobile, a second part thereof covers the outside of a side window of an automobile, and connecting parts thereof can be arranged round one or more outer edges of a frame of the window.
Such devices are known from the American patents 3.670.798 and 3.749.147. In these known devices fresh air can enter the interior of the automobile when the window is opened, while, because the sunlight is partially excluded by both and the first part is situated on the outside of the window, temperature increase is prevented as far as possible. However, these known devices recruire magnetic or mechanical fixing means for fixing thereof to a door. This results in modifications to an automobile which are perceived by owners and users thereof as undesirable, while damage to the enamel can easily occur during fixing of these known devices. On account of these drawbacks these known devices are little used in practice.
The present invention has for its object to obviate these drawbacks in that the gauze or cloth is substantially non-stretch and the dimensions of the cover-like member are precisely adapted to the shape of a particular type of automobile such that the connecting parts are sufficiently secured when the door is closed. It has been found in practice that the device according to the present invention can be arranged quickly in close-fitting manner round the rear side windows of a door with a simple handle and that further separate fixing means can be omitted. Bottom edges of the device placed over a side window lie freely on the frame of this side window. Fitting of the device according to the invention is therefore extremely simple, while a sun- excluding and heat-resistant effect is obtained in the interior, particularly on the back seat of the automo¬ bile. The side windows can be opened in the normal an- ner. Children and animals are prevented from placing any part of the body outside when the window of the automo¬ bile is open, while in addition insects are excluded from the interior of the automobile.
It is further noted that closed foils are known from the German Gebrauchsmuster for excluding incident sunlight and/or preventing ice formation on the windows when an automobile is stationary. These foils are however not air permeable and transparent and must be removed when the automobile is used. Further advantages, features and details of the present invention will be elucidated in the light of the following description thereof with reference to the annexed drawings, in which: fig. 1 shows a view in perspective of an automobile provided with a first preferred embodiment of the present invention; and fig. 2 shows a view in perspective of the automobile of fig. 1 with opened door. A cover or device 1 according to the present invention (fig. 1, 2) is preferably formed from an inner cloth 2 and an outer cloth 3 between which extend connecting cloth parts 4, 5 or 6. When the door is closed the connecting cloth parts 4, 5 and 6 are secured between the jambs 7, 8 and 9 of the automobile, while the window situated between inner cloth 2 and outer cloth 3 can be opened using the handle 10 or an electric mechanism.
In a manner not shown a bottom edge 11 on the inside and/or a bottom edge 12 on the outside of the cover or device 1 can be provided with adhesive tape or the like to fasten the edge to the door. The device is preferably not fixed to the window itself since it would then leave stains thereon which would later have to be removed.
A first embodiment of the present invention is made of gauze such as is used for gauze screens. Such gauze is air permeable and is found to exclude sunlight to a sufficient degree if it is formed into the device shown in fig. 1 and 2. It will be apparent that, depending on the wishes of the user, i.e. more air permeable or more reflective, all sorts of cloth or gauze material are suitable for the device according to the present invention. According to the present invention however, the material is preferably resistant to ultraviolet radiation coming from the sun. Although the material can be slightly stretchable, it is recommended that the material is not too stretchable since it is not the intention for rubber edge strips on the door to be flattened.
The present invention is not limited to the above described embodiment which must be interpreted as non-limitative and within which many modifications are conceivable. It will be self-evident for instance that the present invention can likewise be used in a front door of an automobile. The requested rights are defined by the following claims.
