Abstract

A piece of furniture comprising a supporting portion with a closed side wall (1) that can be folded flat when the furniture is dismantled, and separable reinforcing members (3, 5, 6) that can also be folded flat and have edges engaging the internal edges (7-12) of the side wall. The supporting portion may be made entirely of cardboard or a polymer and be provided, e.g., with a covering portion (4).

Description

Removable furniture

The present invention relates to a removable piece of furniture comprising at least one support part forming a base, this support part comprising a lateral envelope of small thickness compared to its other dimensions, this envelope being closed along its periphery at least at the state of use and being foldable parallel to the slope of the base, in the disassembled state of the cabinet, the support part further comprising at least one reinforcement element having substantially the same thickness as said envelope.

Such a piece of furniture can in particular constitute a presentation piece of furniture, the objects to be presented being placed on the support part, directly or through, for example, a tray, a box or a support adapted specifically to a certain product.

Furniture of the aforementioned type has already been proposed in the form of an assembly produced by folding and gluing. In such an assembly, a base is made up of an envelope of polygonal cross section and reinforcing parts can be provided inside this envelope.

The known structures do not, however, have sufficient stability and rigidity to support relatively heavy objects. They generally require bonding in several places, are relatively complex and expensive and have a very limited lifespan.

On the other hand, in removable furniture, and in particular known foldable furniture, comprising a lateral envelope produced by folding a piece cut out of a material such as cardboard, the shape furniture is definitely determined by the cut piece and is not subject to change. In addition, these known pieces of furniture require a relatively long assembly time as well as, generally, tools and mounting accessories.

The present invention aims to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to provide a piece of furniture of the type mentioned at the start which is economically feasible, easily dismountable and reusable many times, while having excellent stability allowing it to support relatively large loads. The object of the invention is in particular to provide a piece of furniture which can be advantageously used as a piece of furniture for temporary use, such as a display stand or a piece of furniture for exhibition stands.

To this end, the piece of furniture according to the invention is characterized in that said envelope and the reinforcement element or elements consist of separate separable parts, the envelope comprising along at least three internal edges oriented in the direction of the slope of the base, adjacent inner wall portions forming between them an angle of less than 180 °, each reinforcing element having at least a first edge in contact with a first of said interior edges and a second edge, opposite the first, in contact with another of said internal edges or with a second reinforcing element itself having one of its edges in contact with this other internal edge.

Preferred embodiments of a piece of furniture according to the invention are described in claims 2 to 28.

The cabinet shown in FIG. 1 comprises a base comprising a closed casing 1 in the form of a right prism of hexagonal cross section. The envelope 1 is produced from a plate, for example made of compact cardboard, by folding, and is closed along a part 2 forming a tab, so as to join the two edges of the plate parallel to the edges. The fixing can be done by gluing, staples or any other suitable means. The envelope according to FIG. 1 has six internal edges 7 to 12 parallel to each other. A flat reinforcing element 5 and two reinforcing elements 3, 6 folded longitudinally, parallel to their edges, are arranged inside the envelope 1 so that their edges come into contact with the envelope along the respective inner edges thereof. The longitudinal folds of the elements 3 and 6, one of which is designated by the reference numeral 13, bear against the reinforcing element 5, with which they can be made integral, without this being essential, for example at by means of staples arranged at the place of their longitudinal folds or by any other suitable means.

The cabinet of FIG. 1 further comprises a cover part constituted by a hexagonal plate 4 bearing, in this example, on the upper edges of the closed envelope.

FIGS. 2a to 2d schematically show a piece of furniture similar to the piece of furniture in FIG. 1. The cover part is made up, in the case of FIG. 2a, by a hollow container 14 having a cross section slightly larger than that of the closed envelope 1.

Figures 2b and 2c show envelopes 1 provided with reinforcing elements 3, 5, 6 whose height is significantly smaller than the height of the envelope. In the case of FIG. 2b, a plate 62 is placed inside the envelope 1 bearing on the reinforcing elements. In the case of FIG. 2c, the cover element is a hollow element 63 provided with an edge projecting laterally, this cover element coming to be inserted in the upper part of the casing 1, resting by its projecting edge on the edge of the envelope 1 and / or by its bottom on the reinforcing elements.

Fig. 2d illustrates the case of an envelope 1 provided with reinforcing elements 3, 5, 6 whose height is much greater than that of the envelope. This makes it possible in particular to place a hollow cover element 65 on the base, so that the interior surface of the plate of the element 65 rests on the reinforcing elements and / or so that the edges 64 curved downwards. element 65 rests on the upper edges of the envelope 1. Fig. 3a is a front view of a piece of furniture according to FIG. 1, comprising a closed envelope 1 and a plate 4 arranged horizontally.

The cabinet shown in FIG. 3b comprises a closed envelope 15 truncated, supporting an inclined plate 4. The reinforcing elements (not visible) inside the closed envelope can also be truncated, or have an appropriate length.

Fig. 3c shows another embodiment of a piece of furniture according to the invention, comprising an elongated plate 17 supported by two closed envelopes 1 and 16 in which reinforcing elements (not visible) are arranged similarly to FIG. 1.

Fig. 3d represents a piece of furniture similar to that of Fig. 1 comprising a closed envelope 1 and a plate 4, the latter being connected to a base part 18 by a tensioned cable 19. The cable 19 passes for example near a fold 13 and is accessible through an opening of the part base to be able to be tensioned, so as to stabilize the assembly 1, 4, 18. The cable can be replaced, for example, by a rigid bar or any other means of traction, such as a chain or a cord. The base part can have a relatively large mass and, in some embodiments, it can be ballasted. Another form of ballasting of the assembly consists in suspending a weight inside the envelope from the cover part or the upper part of the reinforcing structure.

Fig. 3rd shows the superimposition of two envelopes 1 and 1 ′ so as to produce a base in two parts, the reinforcing elements placed inside the envelope 1 having, for example, a height significantly less than that of this envelope and the reinforcing elements placed in the envelope 1 ′ having on the other hand a height exceeding that of this envelope 1 ′ and coming to be inserted in the upper part of the envelope 1, so as to position and join the two envelopes one compared to each other. Such a base is of course usable in the same way so that a base comprising a single envelope, the two superimposed support parts resting on one another by the corresponding edges of the envelopes 1 and 1 'and / or by the reinforcing elements which they contain.

Figs. 4a to 4h show cross sections of furniture according to the invention, having different forms of closed envelopes and different arrangements of reinforcing elements.

Fig. 4a corresponds to the cabinet of FIG. 1 and the same reference numbers have been used for the same parts.

Figures 4b and 4c show bases comprising a closed casing 1 with a hexagonal section similar to that of the cabinet of FIG. 4a, but comprising reinforcing elements arranged in a different way. The reinforcing elements of FIG. 4b consist of three similar elements 25, 26, 27, folded longitudinally, these elements pressing one against the other along the longitudinal folds in the central inner part of the envelope. The reinforcing elements according to FIG. 4c consist of a first reinforcement element 28 folded twice longitudinally in opposite directions and of two reinforcement elements 29, 30 folded longitudinally in a V shape, these elements pressing against said first reinforcement element along folds corresponding longitudinal ones, as shown in Fig. 4c.

Figures 4d, 4e and 4f show bases comprising, respectively, closed envelopes with cross section in the shape of a square 22, a star 23 and a triangle 24. The reinforcing elements 34 to 39, associated with these envelopes, are folded and arranged so that each interior edge corresponding to an interior angle of the closed envelope of less than 180 ° is supported by an edge of one of these reinforcing elements.

In the case of FIG. 4f which represents a base in the form of a right prism with a triangular base, the lateral envelope 24 is preferably arranged to be able to be folded along a generator 75 passing in the middle of one of the faces of the envelope, so as to allow a flat folding of this envelope in the closed state. The same principle applies to closed envelopes with a section in the shape of a regular polygon with an odd number of sides, an additional fold line being formed in the middle of one of the faces of these envelopes.

In the case of polygonal sections with an even number of sides, the closed envelopes can be folded flat without further around their edges.

Fig. 4g shows an envelope 1 of closed hexagonal shape, similar to that of FIGS. 4a to 4c, in which is placed a reinforcing element 40 produced in a piece folded in such a way that it forms a star structure whose inner folds are joined together or simply in contact in the central region of the envelope, the outer plies being in contact with the inner edges of the envelope 1.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4h, the lateral envelope 71 of the base has a cylindrical shape and is made, for example, of corrugated cardboard with a single smooth face, facing outwards. Inside, the corrugated part forms a multitude of angles which can be used, such as those formed at the location of the internal edges of the preceding forms, to provide support between the envelope and the edges of reinforcing elements such as 72, 73, 74 similar to those of FIG. 4a, for example. The same principle can be applied to closed frustoconical envelopes, for example.

It will be noted here that the various envelopes can be folded, in the closed state or, where appropriate, in the open state, so as to form a flat assembly and that, likewise, the reinforcing elements can be folded flat , so that all the components of the dismantled piece of furniture can be stored and transported flat. Figures 5a to 5d are top views of furniture according to the invention, comprising trays, such as 4, 41, 42 and closed envelopes, such as 1 or 23 indicated in broken lines. Elements 43, 44, 45, 54, 55 for positioning the plates on the closed envelopes are also shown in broken lines. Different arrangement variants for this positioning are shown in Figs. 6a to 6d. Thus, the positioning can be ensured by elements in the form of bars 43 or 44 fixed on the plate, inside (bars 43) and / or outside (bars 44) of the edges of the envelope, as shown by Figures 5a and 5b. These bars may have sections as indicated by the reference numbers 47 to 50 in Figures 6a to 6d. They thus form lateral stops for the upper edge of the closed casing 1, when the plate is placed on it.

Figures 5c and 5d show positioning elements in the form of pins 45 fixed to the plate 4 or 41, these pins defining the position of the casing 1, respectively 23, in the corners thereof. In the case of the embodiments according to FIGS. 5c and 5d, the reinforcing elements have notches such as that shown at 60 in FIG. 6i, to allow the introduction of the pins inside the envelope. Instead of being formed by pins, the positioning elements can, for example, have a spherical shape, such as the element 58 shown in FIG. 6j, a notch 61 of the corresponding reinforcing element also being provided in this case.

Fig. 5e shows a star-shaped envelope 23 whose upper edge is positioned relative to a plate 42 by bars 54, 55 placed outside and inside the envelope as shown in FIG. 6 a.m.

Fig. 6th shows a plate 4 comprising a groove 51 arranged so as to allow the insertion of the edge of the closed envelope 1 and thus ensuring the mutual positioning of the tray and the envelope.

Fig. 6f shows another positioning means in the form of a plate 52, integral with the plate 4, the edge of which positions the envelope 1 from the inside thereof similar to the bars of FIGS. 6a to 6d.

Finally, FIG. 6g shows a positioning element 53 produced in folded form, for example from a material similar to that of the envelope 1 and / or the reinforcing elements.

Of course, the different embodiments of the positioning means are only a few non-limiting examples. Not only the elements in the form of bars, such as 47 to 50, but also a closed part, such as 52, can be placed outside the envelope 1 and be, if necessary, made in one piece with the plate 4. On the other hand, the positioning can be carried out by elements similar to those described, by making these elements cooperate with the upper edges of the reinforcing elements, for example in the vicinity of the place where the reinforcing elements are in contact with each other, as in the central region according to the embodiment of FIG. 1. More particularly, a part, such as 52, may have grooves in which are housed, at least partially, the upper edges of the reinforcing elements, such as 3, 5 and 6 in FIG. 1, the reinforcing elements thus positioned also determining the position of the envelope 1.

It should also be noted that the positioning of a base part of a base according to the present invention can be carried out in a similar manner to the positioning of the covering part relative to the lateral envelope.

The embodiment of the base shown in FIG. 7 comprises four support elements 62, 63, 64, 65 having the form of straight prisms of the same dimensions. The various envelopes designated by 66, 67, 68, 69 are formed by folding a plate of a suitable material, such as cardboard, compact or corrugated, of a polymer plate or of another organic material, and closed along two edges at the ends of the plate, for example by a miter part such as 70, by gluing, stapling or any other suitable means. In the example of FIG. 7, each support element thus has four edges, such as 71, 72, 73, 74 and two neighboring support elements, such as 66 and 67, are interconnected so as to be able to pivot along respective edges, such as the edge 73 of the element 66 and an edge 75 of the element 67. This connection is produced in the form of an articulation, for example by means of hinges 76, 77 each formed by two pieces of ribbon such as 78 , 79 one of which, 78, is fixed, on the one hand, to the inner face of the wall 80 of the casing 66 and, on the other hand, to the internal face of the wall 81 of the casing 67 This piece of tape passes through respective slots 82, 83 of the envelopes 66 and 67 at the location of the edges 73 and 75. Similarly, the other piece of tape 79 is fixed, on the one hand, to the face inside of the wall 84 of the casing 66 and, on the other hand, on the internal face of the wall 85 of the casing 67, and it also passes through the slots 82, 83. FIG. 7a shows, in top view, such a hinge structure. The tape can advantageously be of the VELCRO type (protected mark) and, in this case, the fixing is carried out by hanging on a respective piece of complementary tape, such as 86, itself glued to the corresponding envelope part. This type of hinge allows disassembly of the various elements of a support part and also has qualities of elasticity and flexibility which are particularly advantageous for changes in the shape of the support parts.

Another form of articulation, also illustrated in FIG. 7, comprises for example two strips 87, 88 bonded to the parts of external walls adjacent to the juxtaposed edges such as 89, 90, of two consecutive elements, such as 68, 69. The support part thus formed, which is foldable around all the edges of the elements 66 to 69, makes it possible, on the one hand, to give each of the elements a shape of desired cross section, going from the square to all the diamond shapes to a completely flattened shape in which two opposite edges come into contact. On the other hand, the articulation of the elements one on the other gives the possibility of placing these elements, linked together, in desired angular positions, with respect to each other. The combination of these two choices, that is to say the individual shape of each of the elements and the choice of their respective positions, makes it possible to achieve a practically unlimited number of configurations of the support part.

Figures 8 to 10 schematically illustrate, by way of examples, in top views, three configurations obtained by the support part according to FIG. 7.

Fig. 1 1 shows, also schematically, in top view, a support part formed by three elements each having four edges, and illustrates an alternative with respect to the example of FIG. 7 as to how to link these elements. Indeed, in the case of FIG. 7 (and FIGS. 8 to 10), an intermediate element, such as 63, is connected to the neighboring elements by two opposite edges, such as 75, 91, whereas in the case of FIG. 1 1, these are two edges, 75 ′, 91 ′ of the same wall of the intermediate element 63 ′ which are connected to the neighboring elements 62 ′, 64 ′.

Fig. 12 shows an alternative embodiment of a support part comprising a given number of elements interconnected. According to this variant, the envelope is constituted by a single rectangular, elongated piece, 92, closed along the two opposite ends of this piece at 93 and foldable along the edges of the support elements to be formed. Opposite juxtaposed edges, such as 94, 95, are joined so as to produce an articulation of the neighboring prismatic support elements formed, closed by the union of these edges. Similar to the previous examples, this meeting can be performed at by means of strips glued along the edges, but inside the envelope, as in 96, by means of pieces of tape arranged perpendicular to the edges and fixed on the internal faces of the neighboring walls to form a hinge as in 97, these pieces of tape being fixed here, each, on two respective aligned walls and arranged at different heights with respect to the edges, or even by means of staples or similar devices, as indicated diagrammatically in 98.

Of course, the shape of a straight prism with four faces, if it represents, by its simplicity and the equally simple combinations that it makes it possible, a particularly interesting solution, it is only an example of an element for an articulated support part. The elements can indeed have any number of walls desired, and in particular three to six walls. It also goes without saying that the individual elements of a given support part do not necessarily all have the same shape, that is to say that one can combine prisms having different numbers of walls in the same support part, as well as the dimensions of these walls can be different in the same support part. Fig. 13 illustrates for example the case of a support part formed by elements of different heights. Finally, the number of individual elements can be chosen at will.

As in the case of individual elements, the articulated support parts can be folded flat, in particular for transport and storage, and be instantly deployed in a desired configuration among the innumerable possibilities inherent in their structure.

To reinforce, if desired, one or more articulated support elements forming a base and / or to define the shape of these elements, internal reinforcement elements as described above can be used, which can be dismantled and also folded.

Fig. 14 illustrates an application of the superposition of support parts, such as 100 and 101, according to the principle of FIG. 3rd, for form a wall. The shape of the individual elements and the shape of the assembly can, here again, be chosen as desired, like the configurations according to Figures 7, 9, 10 or 12, for example. The schematic top view of FIG. 15 shows in particular a structure which has, by the section of the external elements, a very high stability as may be desired for a wall. Figures 14 and 15 also show an arrangement of reinforcing elements particularly useful for four-sided support elements.

Fig. 16 shows, in front view, a removable piece of furniture as it can be produced using a base according to FIG. 7. In the simplest case, a plate 102 is placed on the upper edges of the support part designated here by 99. If the function of the piece of furniture requires it, and in particular in the case of a piece of furniture comprising elements of support of different heights, trays or other individual cover elements can be placed on each of the support elements.

To define the shape of the individual elements, one of the solutions, apart from the use of reinforcements as mentioned above, consists in placing a plate such as the plates 102 ′, having the desired shape, inside and at the bottom. of each element, as indicated by the dashed lines in FIG. 16.

Figures 17a to 17c show, in top view, a part of a piece of furniture according to the invention, comprising a plate such as 107 and a support part 108 comprising, for example, elements of hexagonal section, such as the element 109 indicated in broken lines. Elements 110, 111 and 112 for positioning the plates on the closed envelopes are also shown in broken lines. The positioning can be ensured by elements similar to the corresponding elements described in connection with FIGS. 5a to 5c and 6a to 6j.

The envelopes and the reinforcing elements of the furniture according to the present invention can be manufactured, as mentioned more high, in cardboard, in particular in compact or corrugated cardboard, or from foldable plates of a polymer or other organic material. This makes it possible to achieve very advantageous cost prices, while providing furniture whose external surfaces can be provided with all kinds of suitable decorations. Depending on the materials chosen, it will also be possible to recycle this furniture or destroy the used parts in an environmentally friendly manner.

In terms of use, the structure of the furniture according to the invention makes it possible to store and transport this furniture in a flat form, the envelopes as the reinforcing elements of the support parts being able to be folded or unfolded flat. These pieces of furniture can then be assembled in a minimum of time, assembly requiring no fixing and no tools. It should be noted that the same plate or the same base part can be arranged so as to allow different configurations of the support part to be defined. In the case where a tray is simply placed on the support part and the shape thereof is defined, for example, by reinforcing elements or individual base parts, the same tray can also be used for different configurations from the base of the cabinet.

The furniture according to the invention is thus distinguished by an extreme variability and flexibility of use which, combined with the other aforementioned features, constitute decisive advantages in many cases, in particular for temporary installations.

1. Removable piece of furniture comprising at least one support part forming a base, this support part comprising a lateral envelope (1) of small thickness compared to its other dimensions, this envelope being closed along its periphery at least in the state of use and being foldable, parallel to the slope of the base, in the disassembled state of the piece of furniture, the support part further comprising at least one reinforcing element (3, 5, 6) having substantially the same thickness as said envelope, characterized in that the envelope (1) and the reinforcement element (s) (3, 5, 6) are constituted by separate, separable parts, the envelope comprising, along at least three internal edges (7 to 12) oriented in the direction of the slope of the base, adjacent inner wall portions forming between them an angle of less than 180 °, each reinforcing element having at least a first edge in contact with a first of said internal edges eures and a second edge, opposite the first, in contact with another of said inner edges or with a second reinforcing element itself having one of its edges in contact with this other inner edge.

Furniture according to claim 3, characterized in that said support part comprises at least two support elements (62, 63) having the form of straight prisms, these support elements each comprising, or as a whole, said lateral envelope (66, 67), each support element being articulated with respect to a neighboring support element so as to be able to pivot around an edge (73, 75) of this element.

Furniture according to claim 7, characterized in that two neighboring support elements (62, 63; 64, 65) are interconnected by flexible means (78, 79; 87, 88) fixed on either side two edges (73, 75; 89, 90) respective juxtaposed of these elements, on wall portions of the envelope forming these edges.

Furniture according to claim 8, characterized in that said flexible means are formed by pieces of tape (78, 79) arranged perpendicular to said edges (73, 75) and partially fixed on an inner face of a wall (80 , 84) of one of the support elements and partly on an inner face of a wall (81, 85) of the other of these elements, said elements each comprising at least one opening (82, 83) at the place of said edges arranged so as to allow the passage of said pieces of tape.

Furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that two support elements provided, one, with reinforcing elements of a height substantially greater than the height of its envelope, and, the other, d 'reinforcing elements having a height substantially less than that of its envelope, are superimposed, said reinforcing elements of one of these elements support being partially inserted into the envelope of the other support element.
