Description
Multipurpose tape cassette case
Background of the Invention
This invention relates to a cassette tape case, and more particularly to a multipurpose cassette tape case in which small sized stationery such as name cards, tacks, clips, nails, and so on as well as a cassette tape can be kept.
Generally, the prior cassette tape case is in the form of a hexahedron for accommodating a cassette tape therein. The conventional cassette tape case is formed by respective injection molding of its upper and lower casing parts and assembling both upper and lower casing parts by coupling protrusions formed on both side walls of one of the casing parts with holes formed on both side walls of the other casing part. This cassette tape case is molded from hard synthetic resin material. Therefore, it has disadvantages that the case is apt to be damaged by slight external impact and the assembling portions of its upper and lower casing parts are weak since both casing parts are coupled by means of small fragile protrusions only.
Further, since this cassette tape case can be used only for keeping the cassette tape and cannot be utilized for any other purposes, the utility value of this case is relatively low to be a factor of waste of resources. Furthermore, since this cassette tape case occupies relatively large area, it is difficult to keep a large number of cassette tape in the cases in a small area.
Still further, the cassette tape case is produced through complicated manufacturing steps and the manufacturing cost is high since its upper and lower casing parts have to be manufactured by separate injection molding steps. Summary of the Invention
It is, accordingly, an object of the invention to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional cassette tape case by providing a multipurpose cassette tape case made from polypropylene which is not damaged easily by the external impact.
It is another object of the invention to provide a multipurpose cassette tape case which can be used as a case for keeping small sized stationery such as name cards, tacks, clips, nails, and so on as well as a cassette tape, so that it is possible to contribute to increasing the utility value of the case and preventing the waste of resources.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a multipurpose cassette tape case in which a connecting part is formed integrally between upper and lower casing parts through a single molding step, so that the manufacturing cost may be reduced and the upper and lower casing parts are not damaged or departed away from each other.

According to the present invention, the multipurpose cassette tape case comprises: an upper casing part defined by a top surface and first to fourth side walls surrounding below the top surface, each pair of the opposing side walls having the same width and one pair of the opposing side walls being wider than the other pair; a lower casing part defined by a bottom surface having substantially the same width as the top surface and first to fourth side walls surrounding above the bottom surface, each pair of the opposing side walls having the same width and one pair of the opposing side walls being wider than the other pair, wherein the lower casing part has protrusions on each internal side wall at predetermined intervals to fix a cassette tape, and
has fixing grooves between protrusions formed on the opposing internal side walls to enable a partition plate to be inserted therein; and a connecting part integrally formed between the ends of the respective second side walls of the upper casing part and the lower casing part.
Now, the sturcture and operation of the invention will be explained in detail with reference to the attached drawings.
The connecting part 30 is formed between the ends of the second side wall 13 of the upper casing part 10 and the second side wall 23 of the lower casing part 20, and is folded outwardly centering around a thin middle which is flexible.
The connecting part 30 is preferably formed from polypropylene, since the connecting part 30 is required to have a good flexibility and toughness so as not to be cut or wom away by a number of repeated folding and unfolding operations. Experiment shows that the connection means 30 has no severance or abrasion even after about thousand times of operations.
Fig. 5A shows an embodiment of the multipurpose case whose lower part 20 is divided horizontally into two compartments by a partition plate 43. Fig. 5B shows another embodiment of the multipurpose case of which the lower part 20 is vertically divided into three compartments by the two partition plates 43. The user may keep and arrange small sized stationery such as tacks, clips, nails, name cards, first-aid tablets, etc., in the divided compartments as desired. The partition plates 43 may have grooves 44 through which horizontal partition plates
intersect vertical partition plates at predetermined intervals, to divide the case into four or more compartments. Accordingly, the case can be used for keeping a cassette tape or other small sized stationery as circumstances require. The above partition of the internal space of the case into two or more compartments prevents the case from being deserted when the user carries a cassette tape out of the case, and increases the utility value of the case.
On the side walls 22, 24 and 25 of the lower casing part 20 protrusions 41 are respectively formed at predetermined intervals, which are protruded high enough to fix the cassette tape. Fixing grooves 41a are made between two protrustions 41, into which the ends of the partition plate 43 are inserted. Accordingly, the width of the fixing groove 41a is substantially same as the thickness of the partition plate 43. On the internal side wall 23 of the lower casing part 20 protrusions 42 are also formed, and between the protrusions 42 the fixing grooves 42a are made. However, each protrusion 42 on the second internal side wall 23 has its extension 42b to adjust the thin end of a cassette tape as high as the thick end of the cassette tape. Preferably, the extension 42b is protruded from the bottom surface 21 twice as high as a gap H of Fig.l. The extension 42b may be lower than twice the gap H, but may not be higher. The extension 42b may have its end inclined to guide sliding of a cassette tape when the user intends to put the tape in the case.
One or more partition plates 43 may be optionally engaged
with the fixing grooves 41a or 42a to make compartments horizontally or vertically, respectively. By use of the grooves Λ of the partition plates 43, i.e., by intersecting the horizontal and vertical partition plates 43 in the grooves 4A, it is also possible to make four or more compartments. Several protrustions 41 and 42 may be formed in succession to enable the user to engage partition plates 43 with the grooves 41a or 42a, and adjust the volume of the compartments made.
The partition plates 43 are supplied to consumers additionally contained in the multipurpose case.
Consumers can optionally use the plates 43 as shown in Fig .3 to Fig .5.
Fig.l and Fig.3 show a rotation preventing means 27, protruding on the bottom surface 21 of the lower casing part 20, which prevents the cassette tape from unwiding due to the external impact and moving its position. However, as shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, the protrusions 41 and 42 on the internal walls 22 to 25 of the lower casing part 20 serve as a fixing means of a cassette tape, since the distance from the protrusions on the side wall 22 to those on the side wall 23 is substantially the same as the vertical length of a cassette tape, and the distance from the protrusions on the side walls 24 to those on the side wall 25 is also substantially the same as the horizontal length of the cassette tape. Accordingly, the rotation preventing means 27 is not essential to the present invention.
When the rotation preventing means 27 is formed on the bottom surface 21, it should not be in the way of the partition
plates 43.
According to the present invention, the cost of production, especially molding cost may be reduced since the connection means 30 is integrally formed through a single molding step between the upper casing part 10 and the lower casing part 20. In conventional cases for a cassette tape, upper and lower casing part are separately produced and connected by protrusions formed on one of the casing parts, thus requiring more manufacturing steps than in the present invention, and increasing the production cost.
Additionally, the present invention enables the cassette tape case to be used for keeping small sized stationery according to uses, and increases the utility value of the resources.
Modifications and variations of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. It is therefore to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims, the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.
