Abstract

The aim of the invention is to provide a method which enable sufficiently strong brazed joints to be produced using prior art resistance-welding techniques and which also enables the strength of the brazed joints to be set at any required values by the use of rated break points. To achieve this aim, the invention proposes that: a) at least one of the sheet-metal components is worked locally, in the region where the brazed joint is to be produced, to form at least one open or closed cavity designed to accommodate at least one piece of filler material between the two sheet-metal components which are to be brazed together; b) the piece of filler material is placed in the cavity thus formed and is secured in place; c) the two sheet-metal components are secured in place; d) the cavity is closed off and its volume reduced by working part of the sheet surrounding it, using electrodes acting from above and below or using a suitable forming tool, thus causing a pressure of controllable magnitude to act on the filler material; e) the filler material is liquefied under pressure by the heat generated due to the electrical resistance to the passage of current between the electrodes; f) the current between the electrodes is switched off; g) the film of filler material formed is allowed to cool and harden; and h) the pressure on the electrodes is released.
