Abstract

Diameter adapter for mounting a rotary tool such as a saw blade on a shaft with smaller section than the center hole of the tool, where the adapter is annular with smaller thickness than the tool, and deviates in an axial direction undulatingly from a plane, and has radially extending lips (13, 14) from the upper and lower surfaces at the uppermost and lowermost parts of the undulations, as well as a rotary tool provided with such an adapter, where the lips press against both sides of the tool.

Description

E l ast i c d i ameter adapter and a rotary tool prov i ded wi th such an adapter .
Background Circular saw machines are made with different shaft diameters with no common standard depending on traditions and systems of units.Non-cylindrical shafts can also occur, such as rhombic. It is thus previously known to make saw blades with a center hole adapted to the largest relevant shaft diameter, and if the shaft has a smaller diameter to use bushing adapters with the same thickness as the saw blade. It is known to make such bushings as separate elements loosely pressed into the center hole, or as parts of the original saw blade, halfway punched out but pressed back.
One problem for both bushing types is that after some time in use, they work loose from the hole and are easily lost when the saw blade is removed for resharpening. Since in many cases the motor power is transferred to the saw blade by conical washers touching the saw blade some distance from the center hole, it may also happen that the conical washers do not keep the bushing in place, letting it slip to one side and leaving the saw blade excentric and liable to damage.
The present invention concerns a resilient diameter adapter which can easily be snapped into the center hole, and which by its resiliency presses against the edge of the hole and stays there in the central plane of the saw blade without support from the conical washers.
Description
A diameter adapter according to the invention has an outer contour corresponding to the center hole in the saw blade, and an inner contour corresponding to the section of the shaft onto which the saw blade is to be mounted. In the figures both outer and inner contours are shown as circular. Figure 1 shows an axial view of the adapter, with an outer contour (11) and an inner contour (12). From the upper surface of the adapter two or more lips (13) extend outwards from the outer contour, and from the lower surface likewise two or more lips (14).
Figure 2 shows a side view of the adapter, which has a smaller thickness than the saw blade, and which in an axial direction deviates undulatingly from a plane, where the lips (13) of the upper surface are located at those parts of the undulations which are uppermost, and the lips (14) of the lower surface are located at those parts of the undulations which are lowermost.
The adapter is made from an elastically resilient material and the vertical distance (15) between the lower side of the upper lips (13) and the upper side of the lower lips (14) should not exceed the saw blade thickness. When the adapter is mounted on the saw blade, the lips will press against the sides of the saw blade, and the adapter will be centered in the hole without play, when the saw blade is unmounted or mounted between conical washers.
If the saw blade is mounted between flat washers, the lips will be forced radially inwards into the hole, but since the undulations will then be compressed, the lips will be pressed against the inside of the hole, locating the adapter without play.
The adapter should be made from a material with less stiffness than the saw blade, preferably a polymer with or without fiber reinforcement.
The invention is mainly intended for use with circular saw blades, brush cutter blades and blades for lawn mowers, but can also be used for other thin flat rotating tools which are to be mounted on shafts with smaller diameter than the center hole.
