Abstract

Un dispositif de compensation de plaque O chenfreinée-vrillée est constitué, selon la présente invention, d'une couche fine de polymère de cristal liquide organique (1210) et éventuellement d'une ou plusieurs couches biréfringentes. La couche mince pour plaque O est un milieu biréfringent dont l'axe optique de symétrie est, en moyenne, orienté en oblique par rapport à la surface de la couche. En restant dans ces limites, l'orientation de l'axe de symétrie optique (1225) de la matière a la possibilité d'évoluer continûment dans le sens de l'axe perpendiculaire à la surface de la couche. Il est possible de fabriquer de telles couches en appliquant à des substrats transparents (1200) des couches de solutions de monomères de cristaux liquides nématiques ou smectiques chiraux par dopage, lesquelles solutions sont à base de solvants inertes. Les solvants de transport subissent ensuite une évaporation, puis les monomères sont polymérisés par irradiation aux UV. Ces dispositifs de compensation peuvent également être constitués de plusieurs couches de matière pour plaque O chanfreinée-vrillée associés à des plans A, des plans C, et de simples plaques O. L'invention concerne également des procédés de fabrication de plaques O chanfreinées-vrillées.
