Abstract
A fixing device (1) is proposed for fixing articles (11) on a loading space (10), such as the boot of a motor car. This fixing device (1) consists of an angle-section-shaped part. It is designed in such a way that at one side a horizontal surface thereof grips the loading space (10), and at the other side the device is pressed down by the particular article (11) being carried. The other edge of the angle-section-type fixing (1) device serves to position the article (11) in question. The fixing device is pressed down on the loading space (10) by the weight of the article (11).
Description
Fixing device, and method for the manufacture thereof
The present invention relates to a fixing device for fixing articles on a loading space or the like, comprising a surface which grips said loading space and a surface which grips the article. Such a fixing device is generally known in the prior art. In particular, when parcels are being carried in the back of cars and/or vans, there is always the problem of the load shifting owing to the dynamic behaviour of the vehicles in question, which is an undesirable phenomenon, on the one hand, and can lead to damage to the articles concerned, on the other.
Numerous constructions have been proposed for avoiding this.
One solution is to manufacture a mat of relatively soft rubberlike material, on which the articles are positioned. Another solution is to fit blocks or other sections, which are placed next to the article concerned and provide a particularly good grip with the loading space. This grip can be achieved by means of pins.
The first constructions have the disadvantage that shifting of the load is still found to occur when the dynamic stress is relatively high.
The second construction has the disadvantage that it is complex and difficult to fit, and it cannot be guaranteed that the load will always stay fully in place, because the sections concerned can be fitted only in discrete positions relative to the loading space.
US Patent Specification 5,065,922 discloses a special mat for a loading space, while the articles to be transported are provided with Velcro on the underside.
Although such a construction is very satisfactory, the necessity for providing the articles concerned with a Velcro bottom has been a limiting factor which has inhibited its general use until now.
The object of the present invention is to avoid these disadvantages and provide a fixing device which can be fitted quickly, and in the case of which it is not necessary to fit a special mat or the like on the loading space.
This object is achieved in the case of a fixing device of the type described above through the fact that the part of the fixing device comprising the surface which grips the loading space is at least partially designed to carry the article on it, and that that part is provided with a boundary edge for laterally gripping said article.
The invention is based on the idea of improving the grip
between fixing device and loading space by making the weight of the article concerned rest at least partially on the fixing device.
This has made it possible to obtain sufficient grip between the fixing device and the covering of the loading space without taking special measures on the covering of the loading space.
It is advantageous here if the surface of the fixing device which is in contact with the loading space and bears the article is provided with a material which ensures a particularly good grip with the loading space.
Depending on the material of the loading space, such a surface can consist of, for example, Velcro or a relatively soft and supple plastic or rubber material.
If the fixing device according to the invention is in the form of an angle section, Velcro can advantageously be provided at the external faces at one side, and the above-described soft, rubber-like material can be provided at the other side.
The rubber-like material serves to grip smooth surfaces such as steel surfaces, while the Velcro provides grip on textured surfaces, for example carpet-like material.
It is stated above that one of the surfaces can be provided with an angle section of such a material. It is also possible to provide Velcro and the soft rubber material alternately on a surface.
The angle section design also provides a gripping edge for the article concerned, with the result that slipping is prevented.
The particular grip-improving surfaces provided on the outside of the fixing device according to the invention can be provided in all patterns known in the prior art, such as in strips.
The above-described section of the fixing device can be manufactured by all methods known in the prior art. For example, it is possible to manufacture it by extrusion, and it is possible, if desired, to apply the soft rubber material through co-extrusion.
However, according to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the fixing device according to the invention is manufactured by infection moulding. If it is necessary to apply soft rubber-like material near one of the external surfaces of the fixing device, such a material can first be placed in or injected into the mould in question, following which the remaining plastic material is injected.
The invention will be clarified further below with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows in perspective a first embodiment of the fixing device according to the invention;
Fig. 2 shows the use of the device according to Fig. 1 in the loading space of a car; and
Fig. 3 shows a second embodiment of the fixing device according to the invention.
The fixing device according to the invention is indicated in its entirety by 1 in Fig. 1. It consists of an angle section 2.
One external face of the angle section is provided with a Velcro strip 3. The other external face of the angle section is provided with strips of soft rubber-elastic plastic material 4.
The angle section 2 is provided with ribs 5 on the inside.
Fig. 2 shows the use of the fixing device according to the invention in a motor car. The loading space thereof is indicated by 10, and the article to be carried by 11.
It can be seen that two fixing devices 1 are being used, the article 11 lying on top of the fixing sections. This means that the grip between in this case Velcro 3 and loading space 10 is strengthened through the part of the weight of article 11 resting on the other side of the section. The upright edge of the section serves to confine the article 11.
Fig. 3 shows a variant of the fixing device. This is also an angle section, but it is provided with a protruding angle 12. The corner point of an article can be received in such a protruding angle 12. Fixing in two directions can be achieved in this way.
If the above variant is used in the situation shown in Fig. 2, only one fixing device need be fitted on the corner point shown between the two fixing devices 1 illustrated there.
However, the construction shown in Fig. 3 restricts the possibility of using two different external surfaces of the angle section for gripping the loading space.
It can be seen from the above that numerous variants of the idea according to the invention are possible. These embodiments, which are obvious to the person skilled in the art, are considered to lie within the scope of the appended claims.
