Abstract
An exchangeable frame for photographs, posters and the like comprises a moulding (10) which is formed by a plurality of interconnected sections (10a, 10b, 10c, 10d). The free ends of the moulding have bevel cuts (14), and angular incisions (15) are provided between the sections of the moulding, enabling the moulding to be bent and its interconnected sections to be placed around the edges of a photograph so that the sides of the incisions (15) are brought together at the corners of the photograph, and the bevel cuts (14) in the free ends of the moulding adjoin each other at one of the corners of the photograph. The free ends of the moulding are releasably joined at the corner concerned of the photograph by a self-adhesive means (17), and one of the sections (10b) of the moulding is attached to a backing layer (13).
Description
An exchangeable frame for photographs, posters and the like
The invention concerns an exchangeable frame for photo¬ graphs, posters and the like and of the type defined in the introductory portion of claim 1.
Such a frame is known from SE-B-461 816, where the frame is welded or glued at the corners, so that this frame is permanently mounted and is not exchangeable.
DE-A-2 411 314 discloses a similar frame whose moulding is likewise assembled permanently.
GB-A-2 079 598 discloses a frame consisting of individual mouldings.
The object of the invention is to provide a frame of the present type which is exchangeable. This object is achieved by the technical features in the characterizing portion of claim 1.
The invention will be explained more fully below with reference to the drawings, in which
fig. 1 shows a frame of the invention before it is as¬ sembled,
fig. 2 is a sectional view of an edge area of the frame of the invention,
fig. 3 shows a frame of the invention with its possible components, and
fig. 4 is a rear view of a frame of the invention in the assembled state.
The frame of the invention has a moulding 10 with a chan- nel 11 adapted to receive the edge areas of a rectangular photograph which is positioned between a front glass 12 and a stiffening backing layer 13 of cardboard, board or the like. The moulding 10 is adapted to exert a slight clamping force on the front glass 12, the backing layer 13 and the photograph between these. The moulding 10 has a plurality of interconnected rectilinear sections 10a, 10b, 10c and lOd, each of which has a length correspond¬ ing to respective edge lengths of the photograph. The free ends of the moulding 10 have bevel cuts 14 forming angles of 45° with the longitudinal direction of the moulding, and angular incisions 15 are provided between respective pairs of the moulding sections 10a, 10b, 10c and lOd; each of the sides of the incisions forms an angle of 45° with the longitudinal direction of the sec- tion concerned of the moulding 10.
Fig. 3 shows a frame having a backing layer 13 which is attached to the section 10b of the moulding 10 e.g. by gluing, which significantly facilitates the assembly of the frame. A photograph 16 is placed on front of the backing layer 13, and then a front glass 12 is placed in front of the photograph such that the backing layer 13, the photograph 16 and the front glass 12 are positioned in the channel 11 in the section 10b of the moulding 10. Then the frame is assembled by bending the other sections 10a, 10c and lOd of the moulding at the corners with the angular incisions 15, so that the channels 11 in the four sections of the moulding receive edge areas of the back¬ ing layer 13, the photograph 16 and the front glass 12.
When the frame has thus been assembled, a self-adhesive wafer 17 is applied to the rear side of the moulding, as shown in fig. 4, so that the wafer 17 fixes the free ends of the moulding and thereby keep the frame together. The wafer 17 is provided with such an adhesive as causes the wafer to be removable, so that the frame may be opened and the photograph 16 may be exchanged. Optionally, as shown in fig. 4, the wafer may extend inwardly over the backing layer 13 and fix the free ends of the moulding with respect to the backing layer.
