Description

ADHESIVE TAPE CUTTING APPARATUS
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to an apparatus for cutting an adhesive roll tape successively at regular length for attaching the cut pieces of the tape to the overlapping edges of the wrapping paper at a department store and the like.
BACKGROUND ART
In general, adhesive tapes for sticking to the overlapping edge of the wraping paper to prevent the unwrapping of the packing paper are well known.
In United States patent No. 4,752,023 there is disclosed tape dispenser as shown in Figure 27. In this patent, the tape 900 extends from the tape reel 901 with its back keeping contact with the bottom of the guide roller 902. Pulling of the tape causes the tape reel 901 to turn downwardly smoothly at the side of the roller and helps the body 903 to maintain its stability. The tape 261 bends in a plurality of positions, among them one is by depression by roller 902 so that the tape 900 adheres to the second adhesion face 904 before it is cut by the cutter blade 905. Therefor, while the tape 900 is being cut, it is firmly adhered to the second adhesion face 904 and it will not be dislocated by reaction of the tape reel 901, but the tip of the tape 900 is still adhered to the first adhesion face 906 so that it is easy to make the next extension and cutting of the tape.
However, in using such a dispenser, an user should pull in desired length to cut the length along a cutting blade mounted to the peripheral edge of the tape. In addition, the cut pieces of the tape may have different length and their form one another and thus causing the apearance of the pakage to be damaged. Also use of the tape becomes inconvenient.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
In accordance with one form of the present invention, there is provided an adhesive roll tape cutting apparatus with a cutting mechanism which is manipulated free, simply and manually and of relatively small size and produces a desired uniform length of the cut piece of the tape, whereby the package has a good appearance due to uniformly cut tape pieces.
In accordance with another form of the present invention, there is provided an adhesive roll tape cutting apparatus with a cutting mechanism. The cutting mechanism may adjust the length of the cut piece of the tape.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Referring first to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, there are shown a perspective view and a side elevational view of a first embodiment of an adhesive tape cutting apparatus according to the present invention, a base member 1 is provided with side plates 2 and 201 which are formed with identically and parallel with each other.
Side plates 2 and 201 on their rear portion are provided with a slant slot 3.
A shaft 401 of a reel roller 4 which can insert a roll tape 5 having a certain width is insert into the slant slot 3. Side plates 2 and 201 on their sides are provided with a storage 6 for receiving a ball pen, pencil etc.
The reel roller 4 on front is provided with a rotatable roller 7 having a shaft 8, a pressing means 13 having a square shaft 15 and a cutting mechanism 20 having a hinge 23. Wherein members 8, 15 and 23 are inserted and rotated between side plates 2 and 201. The rotatable roller 7 comprises a plurality of arms
9 formed circumferentially on the roller having adhesive faces 11. Between adhesive faces 11, adhesive members 10 having a cutting grove 12 are provided.
A cutting blade 25 of the cutting mechanism 20 is insert into the cutting groove 12.
The adhesive faces 11 formed on an end portion of the adhesive member
10 include a wide adhesive face and a narrow adhesive face to detach a tape piece 511 cut by a cutting blade. As shown in Figure 2, the pressing means 13 is integrally formed with resilient piece 14. When the tape piece 511 drawn from the reel roller 4 is advanced to the rotatable roller 7, the adhesive faces 11 on the rotatable roller 7 contact with the resilient piece 14. The pressing means 13 is fixed to a square shaft 15. However, the pressing means 13 may be rotated around the square shaft 15 and guides easily the tape 511.
As shown in Figure 3, two operating wheels 16 are mounted on both sides of the rotatable roller 7. The operating wheel 16 comprises a plurality of stoppers 17, a plurality of contact faces 18 formed with a curved shape and a hole 611 which can insert the shaft 8. Here, the number of the curved portions formed by the stopper 17 and contact face 18 are the same as those of the arms 9. A rotatable knob 19 is fixed to the shaft 8 protruded from the side plate 2 to rotate the rotatable roller 7. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, a cutting mechanism 20 comprises a pair of tilting members 21 and a connecting plate 22 for connecting the tilting members 21 each other. The tilting member 21 on rear is provided with a hinge shaft 23 fixed to side plates 2 and 201. A supporting piece 24 is formed on the tilting member 21 and a cutting blade 25 is detachable mounted on the connecting plate 22. A compression spring 26 is mounted between beneath part of the connecting plate 22 of the cutting mechanism 20 and the base member 1 to bias the cutting mechanism 20 against the hinge shaft 23.
In the above-mentioned embodiment of the present invention, as shown in Figure 2, if a plural ty of the roll tapes 5 inserted into the reel roller 4 are passed over the pressing means 8 with the adhesive face facing upwardly, the ends of the roll tape are attached to the adhesive faces 11 while beiηg resiliently pressed by the resilient piece 14 and the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in a clockwise direction by an operator, then the rotatable roller 7 inserted into the shaft 8 and a pair of operating wheels arc rotated. The tape 511 attached to the adhesive face 11 of the arm 9 of the rotatable roller 7 is stretched to the full.
Consequently, the tape 511 attached to the adhesive face is passed so as to the adhesive face 11 is contact to the resilient piece 14 of the pressing member 13.
Therefore, the roll tape 511 will draw its length corresponding to the moved length by the rotatable roller 7 and will attached to the adhesive face 11 of each arm 9. Consequently, the tape 511 attached to between one arm 9 and another arm 9 has a tension state, thus the tape attached to the adhesive face 11 of each arm 9 is contact to the contact face 18 of the operating wheel 16. If the tilting member 121 is tilting arournd the hinge shaft 23, then the cutting blade 25 mounted on the connecting plate 22 of the cutting mechanism 20 is inserted into each cutting groove 12 of the adhesive members 10 to cut the tape 511.
Consequently, a cut 512 of the tape is attached to each adhesive member 10 between the arm 9 and arm 9, thus tape cut piece is optionally detached from the adhesive member and attached to a joint of a wrapping paper.
As shown in Figure 2, if the supporting piece 24 of the cutting mechanism 20 is positioned under the contact face 18 of the operating wheel 16, then the cutting blade 25 is inserted into the cutting groove 12 to cut the tape 511. If the operating wheel 16 is more rotated in clockwise direction, then the supporting piece 24 is positioned downwardly to bias the compression spring 26. Consequently, the cutting blade 25 is moved away from the cutting groove 12. Although the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in counter clockwise direction, the rotatable roller 7 and the operating wheel 16 are not rotated in counter clockwise direction since the support piece 24 is stopped to the stopper 17 of the operating wheel 16.
With the first embodiment of the present invention, a pair of operating wheels 6 are mounted to the rotatable roller and thus the supporting piece 24 of the cutting mechanism 20 is guided steadily to cut the tape rapidly.
Figures 4 and 5 show an exploded perspective view and a side elevational view showing another embodiment of the cutting mechanism according to the present invention. In these drawings, those parts which are essentially the same as those correponding parts in Figures 1 to 3 are designated by the same reference numerals, and a description thereof will be omitted.
In the cutting mechanism 20 as shown in Figure 4, the tilting members 21 provided with the supporting pieces 24 are formed shortly. The tilting members 21 are connected by the connecting plate 22 provided with the cutting blade 25 on the upper front. A guide shafts 231 are installed to the sides of the tilting member 21. The guide shafts 231 are guided up and down by the compression spring 26 along a guide holes 232 formed in both insides of the side plates 2 and 201.
Therfore, the cutting blade 25 is inserted into the cutting groove 12 of the arm 9 and cut the tape 511 adhered to the adhesive face 11. This arrangement facilitates the fabrication of the assembly and enhances the cutting effect.
Figurs 6 to 8 show still another embodiment of the cutting mechanism according to the first embodiment of the present invention. In Figures 6 to 8, those parts which are essentially the same as those corresponding parts in Figures 1 to 5 are designated by the same reference numerals, and a description thereof will be omitted.
Referring to Figure 6, both sides of the tilting member 21 of the cutting mechanism 20 are provided with support pieces 27. The shaft 28 is provided with operating wheels 16. In order to move the cutting blade 25 against the cutting groove 12 when the rotatable knob 19 is rotated, a drive gear 29 and a follower gear 30 are fitted into the shaft 8 of the rotatable roller 7 and the shaft 28, respectively. Idle gears 31 are meshed with gears 29 and 30. When the rotatable roller 7 and the operating wheel 16 inserted into the shaft 28 are rotated, the cutting mechanism 20 is tilted up and down around the hinge shaft 23 to insert the cutting blade 25 into the cutting groove 12. Here, gear rate may calculate in accordance with a rotation speed of the rotatable roller 7 and the operating wheel 6. However, the drive gear 29 and the follower gear 30 may be substituted by a chain or chain gear. It is preferred that gears 29, 30 and 31 are positioned in gear box 32 formed intergral with the side plate 201, as shown in Figure 8 and not shown from the outside.
With the present arrangement, if the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in clockwise direction, the rotatable roller 7 and the drive gear 29 are rotated. Consequently, the tape 511 drawn from the reel roller 4 is contineously adhered to the adhesive face 11 of the arm 9 and the follower gear 30 inserted into the shaft 28 is rotated by the idle gears 31 meshed with the drive gear 29 to rotate the operating wheel 16 inserted into the shaft 28.
If the support 24 of the tilting member 21, contacted to the contace face 18 of the operating wheel 16 is moved from the lower position to the higher position of the operating wheel 16, then the spring 26 is tensioned and the cutting blade 25 is inserted into the cutting groove 12 to cut the tape 511.
As above described, the operating wheel 16 is more rotated in clockwise direction, then the supporting piece 27 is positioned downwardly to bias the spring 26. Consequently, the cutting blade 25 is moved away from the cutting groove 12, thereby desired length of the tape 511 wound the rotatable roller 7 is obtained. In addition, although the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in counter clockwise direction, the rotatable the roller 7 and the operating wheel 16 are not rothted in the sam direction since the support piece 27 is stopped to the stopper 17 of the operating wheel 16. Figures 9A to 12 show the second embodiment of the cutting apparatus according to the 9 resent invention.
In rotatable roller 7 as shown in Figure 9A, the end of each arm 9 radially extended from the shaft 8 is provided with the adhesive menber 10 having the adhesive face 11 and the cutting groove 12. The arm 9 is forned with an operating groove 33, in which the cutting blade is inserted into. As shown in Figure 9B the arm 9 formed with the operating groove 33 has sides 34 extending from the adhesive member 10 to shaft 8. As shown in Figures 10 and 11, "T-shaped cutting blade 35(See Figure 12) is fitted into an operating groove 33 of the rotatable roller 7.
The fitted cutting blade 35 is fixed to the inside of a stopper 37 by means of a resilient piece 38 such as spring and resilient band.
The edge of the cutting blade 35 fixed to the operating groove 33 is positioned beneath the end of the cutting groove 12. The cutting blade 35 fixed by resilient piece 38 is fixed so that the end of the cutting blade 35 is stopped into the operating grove 33.
As shown in Figure 11, the cutting wheel 39 operating the cutting blade 35 is mounted to square shafts 41 and 42 in fixed manner. The shaft 8 of the rotatable roller 7 is inserted into square shafts 41 and 42. The rotatable knob 19 for rotating the rotatable roller 7 is fitted to the shaft 8 protruded from the side plate 2. A cutting face 40 of the cutting wheel 39 fixed to square shafts 41 and 42. as shown in Figure 10 is formed with cam type. The cutting face 40 is positioned downwardly. Its periperal surface is formed with a gentle curv to guide the stopper 37 of the cutting blade 25 to the cutting face 40.
In the second embodiment of the present invention, if the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in clockwise direction, the rotatable roller 7 fixed to the shaft 8 is rotated the same direction. Consequently, the tape 511 drawn from pressing means 13 is contineously adhered to the adhesive face 11 contacted with the resilient piece 14 and thus the cutting blade 35 moved in the operating groove 33 cut the tape 511 positioned between adhesive faces 11. When the tape is cout, the stopper 37 is moved away from the cutting face 40 of the cutting wheel 39 by means of rotation of the rotatable roller 7. While the cutting blade 35 is returned in start position by means of restoring force of the resilient piece 38.
As above-mentioned, the cutting blade 35 mounted on the rotatable roller 7 cut the tape 511 in cooperation with the contact action of the cutting face 40 of the cutting wheel 39 and thus a cut operation of the cutting blade 35 is very smooth. In addition, both ends of the stopper 37 are moved simutaneously, a movement of the cutting blade 35 is uniformly acted to easily cut the tape 511. If the cutting blade 35 is properly inserted into the operating groove 33 of the arm 9, the length of the cut tape 512 may be cut in a desired length.
Figures 13 to 15 show the third embodiment of the cutting apparatus according to the present invention. In Figures 13 to 15, those parts which are essentially the same as those corresponding parts in Figures 1 to 12 are designated by the same reference numerals, and a description thereof will be omitted.
As shown in Figure 14, an operating groove 43 is formed into the arm 9. A movable piece 47 of a cutting blade 45 inserted into the operating groove 43 is fixed in a fixed groove 44 in loosen state. The cutting blade 45 fixed in the operatring groove 43 is formed with "J"-shaped. The cutting blade 45 comprises a support piece 46 on its lower part and a movable piece 47 fixed to the fixed groove 44 in loosen state. The end of the movable piece 47 is rounded the same as the fixed groove 44 for moving smoothly within the fixed groove 44. The supporting piece 46 is provided with a guide bar 48 which is inserted into and guided within a guide groove 50 of a cam type formed in the cutting wheel 49. A cutting wheel 49 and a square groove 491 are fixed to the square shaft 42. The shaft 8 of the rotatable roller 7 is installed into the sguare shaft 42 in manner that the shaft 8 can rotate in irkelated with the cutting wheel 49. The rotatable knob 19 is fixed to the outward protruded portion of the shaft 8. As shown in Figure 15A, the guide groove 50 is formed with a round and blunt-tipped round the square groove 491. The cutting part groove 51 is contacted to the guide groove 50. The guide groove 50 and the cutting part groove 51 are formed with a slant toward the cutting part groove 51 as shown in Figure 15B. Conseguently, when the rotatable roller 7 is rotated, the guide bar 48 of the cutting blade 45 fitted into the operating groove 43 is first guided along the guide groove 50 formed in the cutting wheel 49. When the guide bar 48 is reached to the cutting point, it overrides the cutting part groove 51. And thus, the cutting blade 45 moving togeter with the rotatable roller 7 is lifted upwardly to cut the tape 511. When the guide bar 48 pass the cutting part groove 51, the guide bar 48 is guided within the gaide groove 50 and the cutting blade 45 is slowly returned by means of the movable piece 47.
In up and down movement of the cutting blade 45, the movable piece 47 is also moved within the fixed groove 44 of the operating groove 43. In cutting of the tape, the guide bar 48 is more pushed aside when it reach the cutting part groove 51 since a depth of the cutting part groove 51 of the guide groove 50 formed on the cutting wheel 49 is shallower than other part.
Therefor, this arrangement of the present invention facilitates the fabrication of the assembly and enhnces the cutting effect. Figures 16 to 18 show the fourth embodiment of the adhesive tape cutting apparatus according to the present invention. This embodiment is to obtain the cut length of the tape optionally.
Referring to Figure 16, the cutting blade 45 having a different guide bar 48 is inserted into any operating groove 43 formed with arms 9 of the rotatable roller 7. Guide bars 48 and 54 of the cutting blade 45 as shown in Figure 17 are inserted into the square groove 491 protruded into the side plate 2 and guided by the periphery of the cutting wheel 49. The cutting blade 45 is formed so that guide bars 48 and 54 are formed in straight or step type. The width of the curved portion 55 of the guide bar 54 on the cutting blade 45 may be designed in accordance with the cutting wheel 49. Therefore, if the cutting wheel 49 having the cutting part face 57 is adjusted, then the cutting contact part of the cutting blade 45 may be varied. When the cutting wheel 49 is positioned on the side plate 2, guide bars 48 and 54 of the cutting blade 45 installed within the operating groove 43 of the rotatable roller 7 are resilient contacted to the periphery 52 of the cutting wheel 49 by the resilient piece 53. If the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in clockwise direction as shown in Figure 17. the rotatable roller 7 also is rotated the same as those.
The rotating cutting blade 45 is guided along the periphery 52 of the same circle. Thereafter, when it is reached the cutting part face 57 protruded outwardly, guide bars 48 and 54 are lifted instantaneously and the cutting blade 45 is lifted outward the cutting groove 12 to uniformly cut the tape 511 adhered to the adhesive faces 11. However, if the cutting wheel 49 is pushed into the inside by the adjust lever 56, the cutting blade 45 having the straidght guide bar 48 is continuously guided along the periphery 52 while the guide bar 54 of the cutting blade 45 having the curved portion 55 is not contacted to the periphery 52 since the guide bar 54 is positioned outside of the periphery 52 of the cutting wheel 49. Therefore, the tape is not cut by thecutting blade 45 having the gaide bar 54.
According to the fourth embodiment, if the cutting blades 45 are inserted into operating grooves 43 of arms in regular or irregulary and held in a position by using resilient piece 53, then arms 9 are installed at interval of constant distance to cut the tape uniformly.
Figures 19 and 20 show the fifth embodiment of the adhesive tape cutting apparatus according to the present invention. This embodiment is to cut thenumber of cut tapes.
Referring to Figure 19, guide rollers 59 and 60 are mounted on upper and down sides of side plates 2 and 201 installed on the base member 1. Between rollers 59 and 60, the rotatable roller 7 of a conveyor belt 58 type having a plurality of arms 9 is provided. The end of the arm 9 has the adhesive face 11 which the tape 511 is continuously adhered. The cutting blade 45 integral with the guide bar 54 is inserted into the operating groove 12. The resilient piece 53 supports the guide bar 48. The cutting blade 45 is constructed in manner that the movable piece 47 is inserted into the fixed groove 44, the guide bar 54 is supported by the resilient piece 53. Therefore, the cutting blade 45 is not separated from the operating groove 43 in rotation of the conveyor belt 58. The square shaft 42 is inserted into the upper guide roller 59 and the cutting wheel 49 having the cutting portion 57 is fixed to the square shaft 42. And thus, the cutting groove 12 formed in the arm 9 on the conveyor belt 58 and the cutting blade 45 resiliently supported within the operating groove 43 are moved in accordance with movement of the conveyor belt 58 to cut the tape 511 when the guide bar 54 is instantaneous touched the cutting portion 57 of the cutting wheel 49. The tape 511 which is drawn from the roll tape 5 and adhered to the adhesive face 11 of the arm 9 by means of a pressure of the pressing means 13 is cut since a portion having the gaide bar 54 is lifted around the movable piece 47 inserted the cutting blade 45 into the fixed groove 44. After the tape is cut, the cutting blade 45 is returned its original position by the resilient piece 53 and moved in a certain degree along the periphery 52 of the cutting wheel 49. The cutting blade 45 continuously cut the tape 511 by means of the under pulling of the conveyor belt 54 to obtain a plurality of the cut tapes. This structure is not needed the rotatable knob 19 such as above-mentioned embodiments.
Figures 21 to 26 show the sixth embodiment of the adhesive tape cutting apparatus according to the present invention. In drawings, those parts which are essentially the same as those corresponding parts in the previously drawings are designated by the same reference numerals, and a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

A receipt groove 71 formed in the support shaft 70 comprises a operating member 73 wherein a operationg piece 74 is appeared and disappeared in a opening 72.
A groove 712 for installing a rotational pipe 711 to a shaft 70 is formed on the center portion of the pipe 711 of the rotatable roller 7 mounted on outward of the shaft 70. A plurality of guide pins 714 are mounted on a periphery of the groove 71. The guide pin 714 is inserted into a guide groove 713 circularly formed on the side plate 201. And the shaft 8 having a partial flatten face is inserted into a hole 812 formed on the side plate 2. The rotational pipe 711 on its periphery is provided with a plurality of arms 9 having the adhesive members 10. The adhesive members 10 are formed with the cutting grooves 12. An operating groove 76 in which a cutting blade 77 is inserted is extended from the arm 9 to the groove 72 of the rotational pipe 711. A plate 771 of the cutting blade 77 inserted into the operating groove 76 of the arm has a width the same as those of arms 9. In assembling it, an end confact 772 is inserted into the groove 712 of the rotational pipe 711. A stoppers 773 are formed with the plate 771 integrally. The resilient piece 53 is installed to the stopper 773 to prevent the cutting blade 77 from the operating groove 76. The end contact face 772 of the cutting blade is rounded to allow enhance a contact resistance against the operating piece 740 of the operating member 73. Figure 22 show the structure of the operatig member 73 of the adhesive tape cutting apparatus according to the present invention. A square shaft 800 of the adjust lever 78, a square hole 83 for a screwedaxis 82 and a screw hole 84 are formed on a body 75 of the operating member 73 inserted into the receipt groove 71 of the support shaft 70. A rounded operating piece 74 is integral with the body 75. The adjust lever 78 for adjusting the operating member 73 from the outside of the side plate 201 is provided with an axial bar 80. One end of the axial bar 80 is formed with a square axis 800 and other end of the axial bar 80 is provided with stopper 81 optionally inserted into the first and second stopping holes 85 and 86 formed on the side plate 201. As shown in Figure 23, the axial bar 80 is fitted into the through hole 202 of the receipt groove 71 of the support shaft 70. Therefore, the operating member 73 is supported by the square axis 800 of the adjust lever 78 and the screwed axis 82 coaxially inserted into the through hole 203. A Compression spring 87 and E-ring 88 are inserted into the axial bar 80.
Therefore, if the adjust lever is activated, then the square shaft 800 inserted into the square hole 83 can return in its original position. The end of the operating piece 74 is assembled outward the opening 72. If the operating piece 74 is to be protruded from the support shaft 70, then the stopper 81 is inserted into the first stopping hole 85 to maintain a fastening portion 79 of the adjust lever in horizoantal state while the operating piece 74 is to be received in the receipt groove 71, then the stopper 81 is supported on the second stopping hole 86 to maintain the fastening portion 79 of the adjust lever in vertical state. The adjust lever 78 is maintained in an adjusted state until it is force to adjuted.
Referring to Figures 25 and 26, if the contact face 772 of the cutting blade 77 inserred into the operating groove 76 of the arm 89 is passed throngh the groove 712 of the rotational pipe 711, then the cutting blade 77 is guided on the periphery of the suppert shaft 70 by means of the resilient piece 53.
Therefore, if the rotatable knob 19 is rotated in clockwise direction, then other end of the rotational pipe 711 and the guide pin 714 is guided on the guide hole 713 and steadily rotated to move the cutting blade 77.
With this state, the cutting blade 77 is moved from the operating groove 76 and the edge of the blade 77 is instantaneously protruded outward the cutting groove 12 to cut the tape 511. In completion of the cutting, the cutting blade 77 is removed from the operating piece 74 removed from the operating piece 74 to again return its original position by means of the resilient piece 53.
In this embodiment, the length of the tape cut 512 may be optionally adjusted by the operating member 73.
