Description

ROLLER SKATE CAPABLE OF THREE-SPEED CONTROL
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a roller skate capable of control and adjustment for forward and backward movement, high- speed skating, medium-speed skating, and low-speed skating, and especially, one which can be adjusted for forward and backward movement, and also for operation for perfect stop, smooth running, and absolutely free skating, respectively.
Background of the Invention
On conventional roller skates, with a halter in the front of each skate, one has to tilt the skate awkwardly at 45 degrees as if standing on tiptoe when one wants to stand still, and while the skates are kept at level there is no mechanism to keep them from rolling but the skater simply has to hold himself at balance keeping his own equilibrium to his best capability of speed control; a child may have a great difficulty and face potential danger because of this lack of suitable mechanism when he needs to make a quick stop in the middle of fast skating if, for instance, a car or other obstacle emerges in front all of sudden; or else, anyone before getting used to, or becoming an expert, on roller skating, always has danger of falling or getting injured for want on the part of the roller skates of any speed-adjustment means for a perfect stop, medium speed, free speed, and the like. There has appeared a type of roller skates which, by means of a ratchet gear, can control them for forward and backward motion, this type, however, only can control forward and backward motion but lacks any devices to control halting, medium-speed or free- speed skating, wherefore the dangers listed above for a skater remain unsolved.
Summary of the Invention
The roller skate of the present invention is of a completely improved construction, free of all these shortcomings or defects of roller skates of prior art, and are characterized by its capability of control for a complete halt or for smooth medium or entirely free full-speed skating, as is described below, making reference to the attached drawing when necessary.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The roller skate capable of the three-step speed control, of the present invention, is constructed of a rear roller brake 10 at the back, a speed-change lever 5 in the center, a backward motion brake 11, a ground-contact brake 12, and a front roller driver 22 in the front; said rear roller 10, constructed of a pair of upper and under brake wings 10', 10", each having, in turn, a brake cog wheel 23, said brake inserted in a rear roller brake shaft 9 and, set by a rebound spring 16 joined to said shaft 9, connected with a rod 8 of a Y-shape of said rear roller brake 10; said speed-change lever 5 is bent at a right angle to a shaft 5', capable of moving right and left across both walls of the roller frame 24 and both arms 22', 22" of said front roller driver 22 of the shape of a ladder, while over said shaft 5' there is a bolt hole 25 for a bolt which fixes a key member 6 having a backward movement brake 6a and a ground-contact brake key 6b set in one in the front and at the back, and a drawing link 18 is inserted in the right revolve at will, with a separation link 19 in between; at the back of said key member 6 a key stretching member 6c, which is fixed on said roller frame 24 by a stretch spring 27, is set tight with a bolt 26'; on an end of said drawing link 18 is a shaft pin 28 set by insertion, on which shaft an end of said rear roller brake rod 8 is hung; said frontal ground-contact brake 12 joins vertically a press board 1 which is laid on the open ceiling in contact with the sole of the shoe, has a stair 32 to contact said ground-contact brake key 6b, and inside said rear motion brake 11, set on the ceiling of said roller brake frame 24 by a stretch spring 4, is inserted freely to rotate in a brake shaft 3, which, together with a support 13 and a fixture 13' of said front roller driver via said separation member 19' in between, penetrates by turns both walls of said roller frame 24; said support 13 of front roller driver is joined with a pressure-adjustment bolt 15 on the rear end 33 of said ground-contact brake 12 by means of a stretch spring 14, whose upper end holes the center of the upper surface of said trapezoid front roller driver 22; and on said speed-change lever 5 an adjustment pin 17 for adjustment for adjustment of the position of said lever inserted in one end of an expansion-contraction spring 30 fixed with a bolt 29 is arranged to be inserted in, or pulled out of, any one of the brake position hole B, smooth position hole S, and free-speed position hole F, each for adjustment of said speed-change lever 31 , dug out in order at a certain interval in said roller frame o for control either for halting, smooth medium speed, or
No. 2, explanation omitted, is for the support pin for said pressure board.
Of such a construction as is described above, the roller skate controllable of three-step speed adjustment, of the present invention 5 is one which, fastened by both the front and rear rollers on the sole of an ordinary skate shoe, can be set, while skating, at a full stop, for smooth rolling with just a bit of speed restraint, or for completely free speed skating. A detailed description follows:
At first, for the beginners it will be helpful to have the skates 0 at full stop and not movable so that the skaters can walk in them with no danger of falling. To keep both the front and rear rollers steady without rolling, it is necessary to turn said speed-change lever position adjustment holes 31 with indications B, S, and F, dug out in the side of said roller frame 24, and fix, by pressing and 5 insertion of the lever position adjustment pin 17 in the hole, which rises and falls by means of said expansion-contraction spring 30; when depending upon the rotation angles of said speed-change lever 5 the drawing link 8 fixed to the lever shaft 5' of said speed-change lever 5 turns right simultaneously to push said rear roller brake rod 8 connected with said drawing link 8, whereby if said rod 8 is pushed both the upper and under brake wings 10', 10" set at spring by a rebound spring 16 of rear roller brake 10 connected in a Y- shaped are contracted by the returning force of said return spring 1 6 and by this brakes 23 of said wings 10 ' , 10 " press the circumference of rear rollers, thus said rear roller being reduced immovable and made motionless; and at the same time by the turn of said speed-change lever 5 a key member 6 and a key stretching member 6c both are simultaneously turned in the same direction, and so said backward movement brake key 6a attached to said key member 6 falls off the rear end of said backward movement brake 11 , thus said backward movement brake 11 comes to a level, its front end coming in contact with the circumference of said front roller to prevent its movement; at this time said ground-contact brake key 6b falls apart from said stair 32 at the rear end of said ground-contact brake, occasioning some space in between, so that if the pressure board 1 above said ground-contact brake 12 is stepped on to contract it said ground-contact brake is easily lowered pressing the front or the rear roller is kept immovable so as to permit the skater to walk with no danger of falling.
Also, if a beginner wants to keep the skates moveable only at lower, medium speed instead of rolling at free high speed, he only needs to turn said speed-change lever 5 to set it at the hole for smooth skating S, of the speed adjustment holes 31, when according to the rotative angles of said speed-speed change brake 5 said key member 6, key stretching member 6c, and drawing link 18 are positioned in the middle position, neither the braking position B nor free speed skating position F, thus the brake wing 10', 10" of said rear roller brake 10 by means of said rear roller brake rod 8 connected with said drawing link 18 very close on the rear roller, but not enough to hinder the rolling of said rear roller very much but only a little bit thus permitting a smooth but not free high-speed skating; also, said backward motion brake 6a formed in said key member 6, by slightly pushing the rear end of said backward motion brake 11 and thus tilting the front surface of said backward motion brake 11 a little forward from a level position, makes said backward motion brake 11 lightly laid upon the circumference of said front roller thus permitting said front roller to roll; while said ground- contact brake key 6b, by pushing said stair 32 at the rear end of said ground-contact brake 12 to come into contact with even if said pressure board 1 is stepped upon, so that said front roller is enabled to roll smoothly while it is, though, interfering with just a little by said backward motion brake 12 leaning a little forward as well as by said ground-contact brake 12 a little pressed against the ceiling of the roller skate frame 24; thus the speed is kept slow for even a beginner to enjoy skating with no danger at all.
Meanwhile, for an experienced or skilled skater to enjoy skating at free speed with no restraint at all he only needs to set and keep said speed-change lever 5 at said free position hole F, when according to the rotative direction of said shaft 5' of said lever said key member 6' and said drawing link 18 are set at an entirely free position, said backward motion brake key 6a and ground-contact brake key 6b each falling completely off the rear end of said backward motion brake 11 and said ground-contact brake 12, respectively to leave said front roller entirely free of any restraint by means of keeping enough space between brake and roller, while said rear roller brake connected with said drawing link 18 by said
' backward motion brake rod 8 is also drawn forward to the full, leaving enough space from said roller, to ensure this rolling of this rear rollers are enabled to roll with no restraint at all, and an experienced skater can enjoy roller-skating at speed he desires.
In the above, on both outer walls of said roller skate frame 24, arms 22', 22" of said front roller driver 22 are connected to the center by pressure-adjustment bolt 15 and a stretch spring 14 across both ends of said shaft 5' of said speed-change lever 5, and so, by adjusting the pressure by adjusting its length by means of said pressure-adjustment bolt with a view to adjusting the pressure extended to said ground-contact brake 12 when said pressure board 1 is stepped upon, the rotative speed of said front roller is put under control by pressure applied to said front roller which rotates between said ground-contact brake 12 and said front roller driver 22. Also in the above, a lever position adjustment pin 17 inserted in an end of an expansion-contraction spring 30 fixed flexibly on said speed-change lever 5 with a bolt 29 is pushed tight into said lever position adjustment hole 31, but can be pulled out with ease because it springs out of the hole at a pull at the time of release. The roller skate of the present invention , of the above construction and with the above effects including the three-step speed control means, is a very useful invention capable of both forward and backward rolling as well as of speed control by three steps, and thus any one, whether beginner or highly experienced, can make safe, free use of it.
