Description

D E S C R I P C I Ó N "DISPOSITIVO AUTOAJUSTADOR DE LA LONGITUD DE CABLES DE MANDO" D E S C R I P C I Ó N "SELF-ADJUSTMENT DEVICE FOR CONTROL CABLE LENGTH"
Sector técnico de la invención.Technical sector of the invention.
A subject of the present invention is a self-adjusting device for the length of control cables, of which they are commonly used in industry and more particularly in the automobile industry for adjusting the length of sheathed steel cables.
Antecedentes de la invención.Background of the invention.
As is known, the said control cables comprise, in general, a steel cable provided with a sheath and at both ends of a respective terminal for coupling the cable with a control means and with a device to be controlled, so that both are linked. As an example of application of such control cables, among others, the one that normally links the accelerator pedal with the corresponding mechanism of the motor carburetor of a motor vehicle is mentioned. Usually, the control cables such as the one mentioned above incorporate, and mounted at one of their ends, a self-adjusting device of the length of the sheathed steel cable portion.
Said self-adjusting device has the purpose, once the control cable is mounted on the motor vehicle, to absorb, for each particular vehicle, the tolerance which, in terms of length, requires the portion of the sheathed steel cable, and so as to achieve adequate transmission of forces and movements between the control means and the device to be controlled. In summary, known embodiments of self-adjusting devices comprise a main body to which a regulating rod is coaxially coupled, both elements, main body and rod, being traversed by the steel cable devoid of sheath; generally, the main body is anchored to a fixed point of the structure of the vehicle and comprises retention means that fix the position of the rod, while the rod, which is attached to one of the ends of the sheath of the steel cable, can be slid through the main body to the extent that it requires adjustment of the length of the sheathed steel cable portion.
Known embodiments of self-adjusting devices such as those described above allow adjustment of the length of the sheathed cable portion during the assembly of the control cable in the vehicle. Originally, the self-adjusting device incorporated into the control cable is supplied with the control rod protruding from the main body. Once the control cable is mounted on the motor vehicle, that is, with the self-adjusting device anchored to a fixed point and the connection terminals of the steel cable connected to the control means and the device to be controlled respectively, the action on said control means, which in the aforementioned application example consists in moving the accelerator pedal to the position of maximum acceleration, causes a longitudinal request of the control cable sheath that drives the rod into the main body to the extent that said longitudinal request is matched and the reaction of the main body retention means that permanently act on the regulating rod. In this way, by varying the length of the rod portion that protrudes from the main body, the length of the sheathed cable portion of the control cable. It is understood that said adjustment operation is performed only during the installation of the control cable in the vehicle, since after said adjustment the control cable is arranged in the intended service conditions.
As a known embodiment of a self-adjusting device, it is worth noting the device disclosed by Spanish patent No. 9202141 which, in addition to the elements described above, provides, among other innovative elements, means for retaining the regulating rod consisting of two length extensions. ales of the main body provided with a respective retention thread, which extensions are concentrically linked by means of a circular clamping ring and, permanently, press by elastic reaction on a corresponding filleting of the regulating rod, thereby fixing the position reached by the rod Regarding the main body.
In general, self-adjusting devices such as the one described above are structured so that, in those cases in which the self-adjusting device is to be subjected to high temperatures, such as when the self-adjusting device is located at a relatively short distance from the vehicle engine. Thus, the action of the main body retention means on the regulating rod is affected, which under certain circumstances may lead to improper operation of the self-adjusting device.

The exemplary embodiment of the self-adjusting device D of the length of control cables object of the invention shown in the figures of the drawing sheets is mounted, as shown in Figure 1, on the control cable C that links the pedal 1 with the corresponding mechanism 2 of the motor carburetor of a motor vehicle. Such an example of the use of the self-adjusting device D object of the invention is given only by way of title and without this implying any limitation as to its scope of application, since such an example of use is exclusively intended to achieve this description a greater clarity of exposure. Figures 1 to 4 show how the device self - adjusting D comprises the main body 3, which is obtained preferably from material alumi ¬ child, the regulating rod 4, which is obtained preferably from plastic material, and MR retention means.
Figures 3 and 4 show in section how the main body 3 has an elongated general cylindrical shape in which the through hole 5 has been practiced axially and centered through which the steel cable 6 constituting the control cable can be slid C. The main body 3 has, at one of its ends, the one indicated as E_C in Figures 1 to 4, the anchoring means MA that are intended for the assembly of the self-adjusting device D at a fixed point £, indicated schematically in the Figures 1 and 4, functionally adequate of the structure of the motor vehicle. In this exemplary embodiment of the self-adjusting device D object of the invention, the anchoring means MA comprise the peripheral thickening 7 of circular contour and the joint of flexible material 8 of generally cylindrical shape having, axially and centrally, the through hole 9, and peripherally slot 10 as shown in Figures 3 and 4; the through hole 9 is sized so that, by elastic deformation, the gasket 8 presses on the main body 3, and the groove 10 is sized so that, also by elastic deformation, it laterally presses on the wall 11 constituting the fixed point o F, thus, the main body 3, and consequently the device D, are anchored to the fixed point £. The anchoring means MA described above are given only by way of exemplary example since it is understood that they can adopt any other configuration suitable to each specific case of application without affecting the essentiality of the invention.
Figures 3 and 4 show in section how the regulating rod 4 has a generally elongated cylindrical shape and is crossed, axially and centrally, by the hole 12 in which two end portions are indicated longitudinally indicated as 12a and 12p; the end portion 12a is sized to receive and accommodate the longitudinal portion 13 of the main body 3 which is opposite the end E_C comprising the anchoring means MA, and the end portion 12p is sized to receive the CD end of the cable portion 14 sheathed with the control cable C. In this exemplary embodiment of the self-adjusting device D object of the invention, to ensure the firmness of the coupling between the CD end of the sheathed cable portion 14 and the regulating rod 4, provides for the clamp 15 which, through the rod 4, compresses the sheath 16 without affecting the displacement capacity in both directions of the steel cable 6. It is understood that, in order to ensure the coupling of said end C_D and rod of regulation 4, any other means can be used without affecting the essentiality of the invention.
Cabe señalar en este punto que, como muestra la Figura 2, el casquillo de apriete 20, que determina la posición del casquillo de fijación 18, está dispuesto de modo que los salientes acodados 22 pueden ser girados elásticamente alrededor del extremo 24i interior de su lado interior 24.Figures 2 to 4 show how the retaining means MR comprise, in the main body 3 and its longitudinal portion 13, the threaded thread 17, and in the regulating rod 4 and at its receiving end EC 'of said longitudinal portion 13 , the fixing sleeve 18, shown in perspective in Figure 5, which is preferably obtained from high flexibility steel sheet. The enlarged detail A of Figure 4 shows how thread thread 17 has a transverse profile of sawtooth in the side 19 of the thread of orthogonally arranged threads with respect to the longitudinal axis of the main body 3 is dis ¬ since enfrentadamente to the anchoring means MA of the end CE of said body 3. The fixing sleeve 18 It is generally cylindrical in shape and is firmly coupled to the regulating rod 4 by means of the clamping sleeve 20 which, by compression of the fixing sleeve 18 on the rod 4, prevents the fixing sleeve 18 from being able, under normal conditions of use , modify its position with respect to the rod 4, at the same time, the tightening bush 20 acts as a structural reinforcement of the rod 4 preventing its deformation. Figure 5 shows how the fixing bushing 18 has the entire length of the through groove 21 whose purpose is to give the bushing 18 a certain transverse flexibility in order to facilitate its coupling with the regulating rod 4 in the corresponding phase for mounting at the origin of the self-adjusting device D object of the invention. One of the ends of the fixing bushing 18, the one indicated as EC '' in Figure 5 and that once coupled the bushing 18 with the regulating rod 4 is contiguous with its end EC ', it has the guiding means MG composed of the four longitudinally arranged angled projections 22 whose respective outer sides 23 are orthogonally oriented towards the longitudinal axis of the bushing 18. The enlarged detail A of Figure 4 shows how said outer sides 23 are sized in correspondence with the threaded thread 17 of the main body 3, so that, as Figure 6 shows in section, once the regulating rod 4 and the main body 3 are coupled, said outer sides 23 define a nut. In this exemplary embodiment of the self-adjusting device D object of the The preferred number of angled projections 22 of the guiding means G is preferred, it is understood that said means MG can comprise a different number of projections 22, for example three or five, without affecting the essential ity of the invention. It should be noted at this point that, as Figure 2 shows, the tightening sleeve 20, which determines the position of the fixing sleeve 18, is arranged so that the angled projections 22 can be rotated elastically around the inner end 24i of its side interior 24.
As indicated above, the self-adjusting device D object of the invention which is described as an example of embodiment is mounted on the control cable C that links the accelerator pedal 1 with the mechanism 2 of the motor carburetor of a motor vehicle , the length of the cable portion 14 being sheathed 6-16 which must be adjusted during the assembly of the control cable C in the vehicle. Figure 3 shows how the self-adjusting device D is originally supplied, under these conditions, the main body 3 protrudes sharply with respect to the regulating rod 4, and the action of the fixing sleeve 18, in particular the engagement of the outer sides 23 of the angled projections 22 with the threaded thread 17 of the main body 3, prevent the main body 3 from modifying its position with respect to the rod during transport and handling of the self-adjusting device D prior to its assembly in the vehicle. of regulation 4. Once the self-adjusting device D has been anchored at the fixed point £ of the vehicle structure and fixed the ends of the control cable C to the accelerator pedal 1 and the carburetor mechanism 2 respectively, the adjustment of the length of portion 14 of cable sheathed 6-16 is done simply by pressing the accelerator pedal 1 fully; in fact, when the pedal 1 is fully depressed, a longitudinal solicitation of the sheath 16 of the steel cable 6 is caused in the sense that it tends to move the regulating rod 4 towards the anchoring means MA of the main body 3, producing said displacement of the rod 4, as shown in Figure 4, while said solicitation is superior to the reaction presented by the elastic deformation of the angled projections 22 of the fixing sleeve 18 by sliding its outer sides 23 over the inclined sides 25 of the filleting 17 of the main body 3, it is understood that, said displacement of the rod 4 continues until said request and reaction are matched by elastic deformation, at which time the length of the sheath portion 14 of sheathed cable 6-16 is adjusted. The sawtooth configuration of the filleting 17 of the main body 3 with the side 19 of the orthogonal thread facing the anchoring means MA prevents the adjustment rod 4, by means of the outer sides 23 engaged in the threaded 17, can modify its position with respect to the main body 3. When it stops pressing on the accelerator pedal 1 and it returns to its initial position, the control cable C is arranged in the service conditions with the length of the portion 14 of cable wrapped 6-16 adjusted. Under these operating conditions, the regulating rod 4 cannot modify its position with respect to the main body 3, firstly, by said action of the outer sides 23 of the guide means MG on the threaded rose 17 of the body main 3, and secondly, by the reaction of the sheath 6 of the control cable C which prevents the regulating rod 4 from being able to unscrew due to the trepidations of the conditions of vehicle running.
When the control cable C must be removed from the vehicle for any reason, the user simply needs to disconnect both ends of the cable C and remove the self-adjusting device D object of the invention from its anchor at the fixed point £; subsequently, in order to proceed again to assemble the self-adjusting device D in the vehicle, the user must first unscrew the regulating rod 4 to the extent that the main body 3 occupies the original position shown in Figure 3, being From this moment on, the user can mount the self-adjusting device D in the manner described above.
