  • the grid- shaped structure does not allow to achieve a suitable radial flexibility but to the detriment of an excessive deformation of the structure. Furthermore, said structure results more expensive to manufacture compared with the simple corrugated tubes provided with radial holes, which are therefore preferred.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a corrugated perforated tube overcoming the above-mentioned drawbacks. This object is achieved by means of a tube having the holes formed at the crests of its shell profile.
  • the first advantage resulting from said hole arrangement is that the burrs remain within the height of the wave forming the shell profile, and therefore they do not project inside the tube inner diameter. In this way, inserting the tubes on the dyeing rods is made easier and the coating thereof is not damaged by the burrs.
  • a second advantage of the tube according to the present invention is that the dyeing liquid comes out from inside the tube with much greater ease since the yarn on the crests is not tightly obstructing the holes.
  • a further advantage derives from the fact that the holes on the crests as seen from outside the tube are holes in the troughs as seen from inside the tube. Therefore, this arrangement allows for the centrifugal drying of the tubes since no liquid remains inside the troughs.
  • a tube according to the present invention is shaped with circular corrugations 1 orthogonal to the longitudinal axis.
  • Each of the corrugations 1 has a semicircular cross- section, whereby the resulting profile of the shell 2 is a semicircular wave.
  • the perforations resulting in the holes 4 spread in a substantially uniform way on the whole circumference of the tube are made at the crests 3 of said profile.
  • the distance between two contiguous crests 3 is quite small, i.e. the "pitch" of the tube is rather fine, so as to achieve a uniform distribution of the dyeing liquid and to facilitate the dimensional recovery at the end of the operation.
  • Said pitch is indicatively included between 5 and 10 mm, preferably about 6 mm.
  • the tube according to the present invention is preferably manufactured from polypropylene by extrusion. This choice depends, in addition to the high mechanical characteristics of polypropylene, from its very good characteristics of resistance to prolonged thermal ageing as well as to detergents and alkaline components of the dyeing liquids. Other usable materials include PVC, high- and low-density polyethylene, and other thermoplastic resins.
  • the shape of the profile of the shell 2 illustrated in fig.1 is obviously just an example, and it could be varied somewhat, resulting e.g. in a semisquare wave or the like.
  • the corrugations 1 could be non- orthogonal to the tube axis but, for example, have helicoidal development winding round like a spiral. Even the substantially cylindrical shape of the tube may be changed for particular requirements into a frusto-conical or conical-cylindrical shape.
