Abstract
Hanging a door leaf (14) in the frame of a door opening is usually an uncomfortable balancing act for one person. It therefore generally takes two people to perform the operation. The present invention enables a single person to hang a door leaf (14) with the aid of equipment which centres the door leaf (14) in upright position and raises or lowers the door leaf (14) in order to achieve hanging.
Description
EQUIPMENT FOR A DOOR LEAF
The present invention relates to equipment for hanging a door leaf in the frame of a door opening. The frame itself is generally provided with three hinge parts, each having a male portion, whereas the door leaf is provided with three hinge parts designed to cooperate with the previously mentioned three hinge parts. Each of the hinge parts on the door leaf has a female part. It is extremely difficult for one person to hang a door in the frame of a door opening since he must balance the door so that it is perfectly vertical and must also adjust the door vertically so that the cooperating hinge parts come into contact with each other. In order to avoid the strenuous balancing act entailed when one person endeavours to hang a door, it is normal for one person to align the door itself and another person to raise and lower the door. This is extremely laborious and a strain on the muscles of the person raising and lowering the door.
The object of the present invention is to provide equipment that can be handled by one person, enabling this person to align the door leaf to a door frame in a simple manner and also to easily raise and lower the door leaf so that it is hung in the door frame. Purely practically this is achieved by using a yoke with two parallel legs with a wheel arranged at the end of each leg. Two parallel arms extend from the free ends of the legs and are permanently secured to the legs. A cradle is pivotably journalled in the free ends of the arms, said cradle being provided with a bottom and side walls. The cradle is intended to receive one edge of a door leaf, the door leaf also protruding between the two yoke legs. This location between the two legs and in the cradle enables centring of the door leaf. The yoke legs can perform a pivoting movement about the axles of said wheels, this pivoting movement causing said cradle to be either raised or lowered, an extremely simple operation for hanging the door leaf thus being achieved.
The present invention will be described in more detail in connection with one embodiment shown by way of example in the drawings, in which
Figure 1 shows equipment according to the invention,
Figure 2 shows the equipment in Figure 1 with a door leaf ready for hanging, and Figure 3 shows how the equipment can be used to transport a door leaf.
In the drawings 1 denotes a frame with two legs 2 and 3 and a yoke 4. The unit 1 may be termed a handle. The distance between the legs 2 and 3 is preferably such that a door leaf can be placed in the space without too much clearance. The yoke 4 is provided with a protruding piece 5 intended to provided a grip. Two wheels 6 and 7 are movably journalled at the lower ends of the legs 2 and 3 and two arms 8 and 9 extend from the two legs and are stationary in relation to the legs 2 and 3. There is no obstacle between the legs 2 and 3 and a door leaf can therefore be placed between them. A cradle 10 is journalled at the free ends of these arms, the cradle consisting of a bottom 11 and two side walls 12 and 13.
The equipment described functions in the following manner. By raising or lowering the yoke or handle 1, the cradle 10 is raised or lowered and thanks to the journalling of the cradle 10 it can assume a more or less horizontal position irrespective of the movement of the yoke 1.
The equipment is shown in Figure 2 with a door leaf 14 placed therein, the lower edge of the door leaf resting in the cradle 10 while its right side can move freely to the right with no obstacle in its path of movement. The door leaf is provided with two hinge parts 15 and 16, both provided with a female part. The door leaf is also provided with a door handle 17.
Using the equipment according to the invention the door leaf 14 can be moved towards a frame so that the hinges 15 and 16 approach corresponding hinge parts provided with male parts. In this position the door leaf can be raised and lowered so that the female parts on the hinges 15 and 16 cooperate with the male parts on corresponding hinges on the door frame. Since the distance between the side walls 12 and 13 of the cradle is small, the door leaf will be unable to move appreciably in lateral direction. The door leaf will also be retained in vertical position since a part of it is located between the legs 2 and 3.
Figure 3 shows that it is also possible to place a door leaf 14 so that one of its longitudinal edges rests in the cradle 10, the door leaf being pushed so far to the right that one of its short edges abuts the yoke 4. Such positioning of the door leaf facilitates transport between various desired places.
