Abstract

Novel type of hollow or solid pads for high precision obturating of any wind instrument provided with a mechanism. The invention provides a solution to the problems of leakage, condensation and adjustment associated with such instruments. The pad consists of a rigid base (1) with a non-rigid washer (2) resting thereon, the whole being covered with a fluocarbonaceous resin film folded back over the side (3). The rigid base (1) of the solid pad is cone-shaped, while the base of the hollow pad is rounded on the edge, the central hole being slightly flared at the base.

Description

BUFFER FOR WIND MUSIC INSTRUMENTS

The present invention relates to a new kind of buffer usable for the manufacture and maintenance of any wind musical instrument provided with a mechanism.

The current stamps are composed of a thin cardboard washer and a felt washer, covered with a double film of balloon. By their shape and the materials used for their manufacture, they are fragile, sensitive to humidity and condensation, sometimes going so far as to adhere to the chimneys of the instruments; they therefore often cause sound problems and their assembly is long and difficult.

The object of the present invention is to eliminate these faults by allowing completely sealed plugging of the chimneys of the instruments and to facilitate assembly. This is achieved by the choice of materials and the specific shape given to the pads.

The instruments on which the pads of the present invention will be mounted have chimneys of different sizes. They require the use of hollow pads, shown in Figures 1 and 2, and full pads, shown in Figures 3 and 4. These pads are round. The different sizes do not change the composition or the general shape of these; these pads can be of different diameters and thicknesses.

The hollow pads are shown in section in Figure 1 and exploded in Figure 2. The full pads are shown in section in Figure 3 and exploded in Figure 4.

The tampon is composed of: a base of rigid material (1),

1 to 3 mm. thick (according to the sizes mentioned above) made in particular of hard cardboard (or any other material having the same properties); a flexible material washer (2) fixed to the base (1) from 1 to 3 mm. thick (according to the sizes mentioned above) made in particular of self-adhesive foam (or any other material having the same properties, even for gluing); 0.1 mm film. of material recovering

The hollow pad as shown in Figures 1 and 2 is perforated in the center (4); this hole is flared at the bottom (5). The edges of the base (1) are slightly rounded (6) according to Figures 1 and 2. -Λ o When mounting on the musical instrument, the hollow pads are wedged using small wedges ( cardboard or paper).

The full tampon as shown in Figures 3 and 4 has a conical base (7). This allows immediate setting during mounting on the musical instrument.

Claims

1. Buffer, for plugging the chimneys of any wind musical instrument provided with a mechanism, adapting, by its different sizes, to all forms of chimneys, characterized in that it has a structure in three layers, namely: a rigid ^s base (1) from 1 to 3 mm. thick, topped with a flexible material washer (2) from 1 to 3 mm. thick, the assembly being covered with a film of material recovering micro-leaks without affecting the perfect movement of the pad on the chimney (3) of about 0.1 mm. thick folded down and glued to the thickness of
