Abstract

'Solar motors' have been developed to make use of solar power, designed as a heat engine on the STIRLING-reciprocating piston principle placed at the focal point of a concave mirror. Despite the 42 % efficiency of the Stirling engine, the installation attained a total efficiency of only some 17 %, mainly owing to the hat losses at the 'receiver' and the relatively low efficiency of the concentrator (Schlaich & Partners system). The present invention makes use of a heat engine invented by the applicant which can be constructed with a very long shape without heavy costs owing to its relatively simple method of operation, so that the receiver area, using a parabolic mirror (higher concentrator efficiency than a concave mirror), is larger compared with prior art solar motors, thus providing better total efficiency. Thus, with this invention, a larger receiver area is also available when high-temperature exhaust gases are used to heat the receiver of the heat engine.
