- Fig. 8 shows the guide part of Fig: 7 from the left in* Fig. 7.
- Fig. 1 illustrates a fastening device 1 which is intended to be attached to a supportive device 2 in the form of a manrope which extends along the railing 4 of a sailboat 3, and to a flexible carrier 5 in the form of a line or rope on which an object 6, in the form of a so-called fender 6, is intended to hang while secured by the fastening device.
- the fastening device 1 is constructed so that the carrier is generally guided for movement through the fastening device and when in a first position, shown by a combination of broken and chain lines in Fig. 2, can be moved generally freely in its longitudi ⁇ nal direction in the fastening device, and when in a second position, shown solely in broken lines in Fig.
- the carrier is clamped securely in the fastening device and therewith locked against movement in its longitudinal direction, wherein the carrier can be switched between said positions by gripping the carrier with one hand and linking said carrier into and out of contact, coaction, with a guide part, a latching part, which is constructed to steer the carrier to a clamped state and to latch the carrier in said state, wherein the carrier is displaced transversely to its running direction in connection with the guide part when switching said positions.
- the fastening device includes a carrier guide channel 9 which corresponds to said first position and which is intended to extend generally vertically when the fastening device is attached in the intended manner, and a downwardly tapering clamping part 7 which connects with an upper part 10 of the vertical guide channel, and a downwardly turned guide part, latching part 8, wherein the clamping part 7 and the latching part 8 together with the guide channel correspond to said second position in which the carrier runs through the guide channel and the clamping part and continues beneath the guide part, wherein the carrier is intended to be clamped in the clamping part by pulling on that part 11 of the carrier which protrudes downwardly from the guide channel, wherein said pulling force can be obtained through the medium of the object 6 hanging from the carrier on the fastener device.
- the mutually facing sides 12 of the clamping part are provided with grooves 13, ridges 13 or the like, which extend in the tapering direction of the clamping part, the vertical direction of said clamping part, and which are intended to grip the carrier and therewith render sliding of the carrier in the clamping part difficult.
- the guide part 8 has a relatively sharp edge 14, Fig. 3, which extends generally transversely to the mutually opposing sides of the clamping part against which the carrier is intended to lie.
- the effective guide length of the guide channel will preferably be several times greater than the diameter or like cross-dimension of the carrier, so that the fastening device will have substantial vertical alignment when the device and said object hang from that part of the carrier which extends out of the guide part, wherein the force acting on this downwardly hanging part of the carrier will act on a longer moment arm than the force which acts in that part of the carrier that coacts with the guide part, therewith preventing pronounced skewing of the fastening device.
- the fastening element is intended to be fastened to and removed from a manrope or like device and the intention is that this can be effected by gripping that part of the carrier which extends from the guide part with one hand. Fig. l, therewith leaving the other hand free.
- the fasten ⁇ ing device is provided with fastening elements which include a groove 15 which is opened downwardly when the fastening device is attached in the intended manner or hangs from the carrier part which extends from the guide part, said elongated object being intended to be inserted into said groove, and which groove includes a resiliently mounted latching paw 15' which is intended to be pushed away against a spring force by means of said elongated object as said object is placed in and removed from the groove 15.
- the groove will preferably taper from its opening, there ⁇ with enabling elongated objects of different dimensions to be clamped in the groove and therewith fixed in the longitudinal direction of the carrier.
- one side 16 of the two mutually opposing sides 17 of the groove is located contiguous with and extends generally parallel to a carrier guide channel 9, wherein the latching paw is mounted in an opening 18 on the other side of said groove, preferably on a resilient tongue 19 provided adjacent said other side.
- one side of the groove is slightly convex transversely to the depth direction of the groove and therewith in the direction in which the elongated object runs in the groove.
- the groove is provided at its opening with a guide part 20 which extends at a slight angle to the inwardly lying part 21 of the groove and is intended to extend generally vertically when attaching the fastening device, so as to coact with an angled part of the latching paw 15' facing towards the opening.
- the fastening device is thus constructed in a manner which will enable it to be attached to and removed from the carrier and which will enable the downwardly hanging length of the carrier to be adjusted, and therewith also the height position of the device 6, by gripping the free carrier end 5' that extends from the fastening device with one hand, so as to leave one hand free for supporting the user on the deck of the sailboat, for instance.
- the fastening device with carrier attached thereto and the object, such as a fender attached to the carrier, is thus lifted by the free carrier end extending from the element 1, said carrier therewith taking said second position, Fig. la.
- a supportive device such as a manrope, i.e. the unit comprising fastening device-carrier-object is held lifted by said free end, wherewith the supportive device is inserted into the groove of said fastening device and beyond the latching paw, the spring force being overcome by the natural weight of the object, the fender.
- the fastening element is herewith releasably locked to the supportive device. The same applies when removing the fastening element, wherewith the spring force is overcome by means of a lifting force applied to the free carrier end,.,
- the height position of the object is changed by changing the direction of the carrier, by turning the carrier transversely to its running direction adjacent the guide part, the latching part, and therewith out of engagement with the guide part, wherewith the carrier can be removed from the clamping part so as to be freely movable in the guide channel and therewith enable the position of the object 6 to be changed, i.e. raised or lowered.
- the carrier is returned to its second position, wherewit the carrier is locked automatically in the fastening device by means of the guide part and the clamping part, as was earlier the case.
- the rigidness or stiffness of the carrier is used to avoid the carrier bending past the guide part, and the distance between the clamping part and the guide part is suitably adapted herefor.
- the above related, preferred embodiments have particular functions.
- the ridges or grooves improve locking.
- the convex side 17 in combination with a generally flat side 16 eliminate wear on the carrier, among other things.
- the tapering design of the groove and the clamping part enable a relatively wide range of dimensions to be covered with regard to the supportive device and the carrier respective ⁇ ly.
- the guide-in part whose direction deviates from the remainder of the groove, in combination with the angled part of the latching paw, enables the latching paw to be moved out of the way more easily, and also enables that part of the latching paw which projects into the groove to be reduced.
- the invention provides important technical and user-friendly advantages, particularly the fact that only one hand need be used to manoeuver all functions of the fastening device.
- guide channel be closed, but may be open instead, in which case the carrier runs in guide rings or the like adapted to this end, or in a groove which is configured so as to prevent the carrier from leaving the groove transversely to its length direction.
- Guide means are required to prevent the carrier from twisting from the clamping part.
- the fastening device is preferably produced as a plastic one-piece structure.
- the supportive device, the manrope or like device has a diameter of about 6-8 mm, and the carrier, the line or like device, has a diameter of about 5-9 mm, these two dimensional ranges being large in comparison with what is possible when applying known techniques.
- the angle of the opening of the clamping part will prefer ⁇ ably be about 30°, while the angle of the groove opening will preferably be about 7 * .
- each of the side surfaces 22 of the latching paw 15 is provided with a respective stop shoulder 23 which functions to prevent excessive pivoting/offsetting of the latching paw, by stopping the paw against the groove side 17 of the paw, therewith to eliminate the risk of the fastening device twisting out of the supportive device by offsetting or oblique positioning of the latching paw in its opening in the groove side 17.
- a guide 24 generally opposite said clamping part 7 in the bottom edge 14 of the guide part, against which the carrier is intended to abut in said second position, wherein the bottom edge 14 will probably not have a sharp contour in the recess, but will have noticeable thickness.
- the guide part is preferably also provided with a stop shoulder 25 on the side thereof facing the clamping part and preferably essentially at the lower part 27 of its free end 26, this stop shoulder assisting in preventing the carrier from leaving said second position when the object, such as the fender, is stored with the fastening device attached thereto, wherein the object will not exert any pulling force in that part of the carrier that extends through the guide channel.
