A forward end portion (21) of the member (19) is provided with means (26) for securing the member (19) relative to the container (11) and the apparatus (10) is restrained from being removed from the support (28) by abutment of the portion (22) with the support (28).
Description
Apparatus for Locating a Lamp
This invention relates to apparatus for locating a lamp relative to a support.
In GB-A-2 064 088 there is disclosed apparatus for securing a light fitting to a refuse receptacle of a type having a plurality of stub shafts extending outwardly from outer walls of the receptacle for engagement by hooks of lifting equipment. The apparatus comprises a wire mesh container open at the top and having a loop for locating the container on one of the shafts. A separate barrier member is provided which is adapted to engage the shaft and extend across the top opening of the container so as to restrain withdrawal of the lamp from the container through the top opening and removal of the apparatus from the shaft.
A disadvantage of such apparatus is that the barrier member is removable from the container and is easily mislaid. In consequence, surplus barrier members are required to replace mislaid barrier members. The cost of the apparatus is increased if more than a single barrier member is required for each apparatus.
The invention is characterised in that the barrier member is non-removably connected with the container.
Following is a description, by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of one method of
carrying the invention into effect.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of apparatus in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the embodiment shown in Figure 1 when in use for locating a lamp relative to a support, and
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic representation of the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2 when being mounted on or removed from the support.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown apparatus 10 comprising an open top wire mesh container 11 having a rear plate 12 with a central upper aperture 13 and a pair of forwardly extending spaced parallel side webs 14, 15 and a forwardly extending upper arcuate flange 16. The container 11 includes an upper forward transverse abutment wire 17 and an upper rearward transverse abutment wire 18.
The apparatus 10 also comprises an elongate wire barrier member 19 for extending across the open top, a rear portion of the member 19 being welded to a transverse shaft 20 journalled in the webs 14, 15 so that the member 19 is pivotable on a longitudinal axis of the shaft 20. A forward portion of the member 19 has welded to an upper surface thereof a plate 21. The member 19 extends rearwardly beyond
the shaft 20 through the aperture 13 and provides a rear abutment wire 22. The plate 21 is formed with a depending front web 23 and a pair of depending side webs 24, 25. The front web 23 carries a screw 26 the shank of which extends longitudinally of the member 19 The side webs 24, 25 are each provided with an aperture 27.
The aperture 13 conforms in part with the curvature of an outer surface of a stub shaft 28 extending from a refuse receptacle 29, the shaft 28 having an outer portion 30 of enlarged diameter.
Prior to mounting the apparatus 10 on the shaft 28 the member 19 is pivoted upwardly and a lamp 31 is located in the container 11. The container 11 is then located on the shaft 28, as shown in Figure 3, such that the arcuate portion of the aperture 13 engages the shaft 28 and the flange 16 conforms with an upper circumferential surface of the enlarged portion 30 of the shaft 28. The member 19 is then pivoted downwardly such that the plate 21 seats on the forward wire 17. The screw 26 then is turned so that the shank thereof extends under the abutment wire 17 thereby restraining subsequent upward pivotable movement of the member 19, as shown in Figure 2.
The apparatus 10 is thus firmly secured on the shaft 28 since any upward movement of the apparatus 10 relative to the shaft 28 is restrained by the rear abutment wire 22 in engagement with the shaft 28. Furthermore, any attempt "to remove by
pivoting the apparatus 10 in a clockwise direction of Figure 2 is restrained by the rear abutment wire 18.
It will be appreciated that additional security may be provided by a padlock 32 engagable with an aperture 27 in the side web 24 or 25 and an adjacent portion of the container 11.
